The Certificate of Permanent Residence is the document that formalizes the right of permanent residence in Portugal and may only be applied for by EU/EEA/Switzerland citizens and their family members after five years of uninterrupted legal residency in this country. The right of entry, permanence and residence in Portugal covers the citizens of the European Union (EU), of the European Economic Area and of Switzerland, as well as their family members.
