GENERAL RULES OF UNIVERSITY RESIDENCES
I – ORGANISATION
1.1 The functioning of the University Residences is assured by the Social Services of the
University of Algarve. A member of its staff is assigned for the direct management, and
may enter the residence, particularly the bedrooms, to monitor the living
conditions.
1.2 Each year the tenants of each Residence elect a committee:
• To represent the residents in the Social Services of the University of Algarve Student
Union;
• To assist in the resolution of conflicts between residents, when they occur;
• To take an active role in the analysis of problems, concerning the interests of the
residence, that could affect or alter the normal living conditions;
• Other responsibilities when necessary.
II – MONTHLY PAYMENTS
2.1 The payment of the residence must be done no later than the 8th of each month.
2.2 Residents should use water, gas and electricity with maximum moderation. Each
resident is responsible for paying her/his telephone calls. The use of private
heaters that require residence electricity or gas are prohibited.
III – OPERATION PROCEDURES
3.1 On arrival each resident will receive two keys: one to the main entrance and another to
her/his room. These two keys must be returned when the lodger leaves the residence.
• Lodgers are responsible for the order and preservation of the assets that are
allowed to use, and are responsible for any damages caused.
• When entering, each lodger must fill-in and sign a term of responsibility with an
inventory of all items provided and their condition;
• The residents are responsible for any damages caused by their non-resident guests.
3.2 When leaving, the resident will receive from the Residence manager a checklist of all
items delivered at time of entry, to confirm all is in good conditions.
3.3 Residents may not interfere or prevent Social Services personnel from carrying out
their responsibilities in the residences, or other sent for specific purpose.
3.4 The washing and treatment of clothes are only permitted in the designated areas.
3.5 The following is not permitted:
• To give the residence keys to any non-resident;
• The removal of tables, chairs and other equipment from their designated places;
• Allowing non-residents to enter the rooms or the kitchen of the residence,
even under the pretext of group study;
• Depending the nature of the residence, it is strictly forbidden the entry to people
of the opposite sex to all areas, except those reserved for this purpose. The only
exception to this is for the personnel of the Social Services or persons accompanied
by them;
• Non-residents are only permitted in the residences if they do not disturb the other
residents.
3.6 The residents who wish to cook and have their meals in the facilities provided may only
do so in their respective cooking and dining areas. The cleaning of these areas is of the
resident’s direct responsibility, including all items provided.
3.7 When the residents leave their bedrooms to attend classes or for other activities, they
must leave them clean and tidy, with the bed made.
3.8 Residents must abstain from illegal and improper activities, as well as those colliding
with the collective life in the residences, such as:

Any behaviour that disturbs the normal life of the residents;
Gambling;
Consumption or traffic of drugs;
Allowing non-residents to use the bedrooms.
IV – GROUNDS FOR IMMEDIATE EXPULSION FROM THE RESIDENCE
4.1 The non-compliance of the rules outlined here.
4.2 Conduct not consistent with the study and coexistence environment needed in the
Residences.
4.3 Carriers of any contagious disease and that require quarantine.
4.4 Failure of the monthly residence payment.
4.5 The non-use of the Residence for periods exceeding 15 days, without prior notice
(except holiday periods).
4.6 Allowing non-residents to sleep in the Residence.
4.7 Residents who do not regularise the damages within the time period established shall
be required to pay double the monthly payment of the residence until the damages
have been covered. In extreme cases, immediate loss of right to the residence may
occur.

LICENCIATURAS (121,25€).
CASO RESOLVA SAIR DEPOIS DO PAGAMENTO EFECTUADO, OS SERVIÇOS ADVERTEM QUE
NÃO DEVOLVERÃO O VALOR PAGO.
DEPOIS DO MÊS, SE OS ESTUDANTES DECIDIREM PERMANECER NA RESIDÊNCIA DEVERÃO SE
DIRIGIR AOS SERVIÇOS DE ACÇÃO SOCIAL PARA REGULARIZAR O RESTANTE PAGAMENTO.

ERASMUS + / ERASMUS MUNDUS AND EXCHANGE STUDENTS WHO APPLY FOR
RESIDENCE, WILL HAVE ONE MONTH TO DECIDE WHETHER TO CONTINUE OR NOT IN
THE RESIDENCE. , IN THE ACT OF ENTRANCE IN THE RESIDENCE STUDENTS HAVE TO
PAY ONE MONTH
MASTERS STUDENTS (130.95€) BACHERELET STUDENTS (121, 25€)
CASE THE STUDENT DECIDE TO LEAVE THE RESIDENCE AFTER PAYMENT, THE SOCIAL
SERVICES WARN THAT WILL NOT RETOURNE THE MONEY.
AFTER THE MONTH IF THE STUDENTS REVEAL INTEREST IN STAYING IN THE
RESIDENCE THEY SHOULD CAME TO SOCIAL SERVICES TO REGULATE THE
PAYMENTS.

AOS S.A.S., ACOMPANHADOS DO RESPECTIVO DOCUMENTO COMPROVATIVO DA DATA DE
SAÍDA, PARA ACERTAR E REGULARIZAR A SUA SITUAÇÃO E PAGAMENTOS.
•
ON THE LAST WORKING DAY PRIOR TO THEIR DEPARTURE, THE STUDENTS SHOULD
PRESENT THEMSELVES AT SOCIAL SERVICE, WITH THE DOCUMENT STATING THE DATE
OF EXIT, IN ORDER TO REGULATE THEIR SITUATION AND SETTLE PAYMENTS.

CORRESPONDENTES AO PERÍODO INICIALMENTE SOLICITADO, SALVO MOTIVO DE FORÇA MAIOR,
DESIGNADAMENTE MORTE OU DOENÇA GRAVE, DEVIDAMENTE COMPROVADA, OU APÓS
COMUNICAÇÃO DO GABINETE, VERIFICADA A POSSIBILIDADE DE SUBSTITUIÇÃO POR OUTRO
ESTUDANTE QUE SE ENCONTRE EM LISTA DE ESPERA.

STUDENTS WHO WISH TO LEAVE THE RESIDENCE BEFORE THE PERIOD PREVIOUSLY AGREED, WILL
BE CHARGED FOR ALL MONTHS, AS INITIALLY REQUESTED, EXCEPTIONS TO THIS ARE CASES OF
SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS, DULY JUSTIFIED OR IF THE STUDENT CAN BE IMMEDIATELY
REPLACED BY ANOTHER STUDENT ON THE WAITING LIST, AS SET BY THE SOCRATES PROGRAMME
