Curitiba is the capital of the state of Paraná and is famous throughout Brazil as one of the cities
with the highest quality of life. The city is a benchmark in urban planning, public transport and
sustainability. A new Curitiba emerged between the 1950s, when the city hosted two FIFA
World Cup matches and the first decade of the 21st century. Indeed, the city is getting ready to
host another World Cup.
The capital of the state of Paraná, which used to be a small town with some rural areas within
its boundaries, has turned into a totally urbanised, modern and dynamic city. A metropolis
with 1.8 million people, making it the biggest city in Brazil's south region and the seventh
biggest in the country in terms of inhabitants.

Baixada Arena Stadium
Strategically located 3.5 km from Curitiba City Centre, the Baixada Arena will be the stage of
four group stage FIFA World Cup matches. The stadium, which belongs to Atlético Paranaense
(local team), will have a seating capacity of 42 thousand people.

Main tourist attractions
Botanical Garden
Curitiba’s landmark was inaugurated in 1991. The metal structure houses national plant
species. The Flower Museum attracts researchers from all over the world. Rua Engenheiro

Rua das Flores/Street
Located in Curitiba City Centre, it was the first pavement for pedestrians in the country and is
one of the symbols of the town's cultural revolution. From Luis Xavier Avenue to Quinze Road.
Rua 24 Horas
Place for shopping, leisure and restaurants. Rua Visconde de Nacar, 1.424 – Centro.
Guaíra Theatre
One of the biggest theatres in Latin America. Rua Quinze de Novembro, 971.
Paço da Liberdade
Former municipal government headquarters. It is the only building in Curitiba to be listed at
the three levels: federal, state and municipal and currently, houses a cultural centre. Praça
José Borges de Macedo – bairro Centro.
Oscar Niemeyer Museum
One of Brazil’s biggest and most modern museums. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the “eye” as
it is called, is the conclusion of an old piece of work, built by the architect himself in 1976. Rua

Barigüi Park
Implemented in 1972, it is one of the city’s biggest parks, with 1.4 million square metres. The
place is the favourite for those wanting to take a stroll or engage in physical activity. Avenida

Iguaçu Falls
There are 275 falls surrounded by a simply breathtaking scenario. This is Foz do Iguaçu, town
located at the treble border between Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. It is home to the Iguaçu
National Park, inscribed in the World Heritage List by UNESCO. The town plays host to over 1
million tourist a year. It is 637km away from Curitiba. There are regular flights to Foz do Iguaçu
