Texto: Vasco de Sousa Ilustração: Gintare Hermanaviciüte O peixe que gostava de se pentear 2 The Book Excerpt Once upon a time, there was a very big house... Once upon a time, there was a boy called Paulo... Once upon a time, there was a fish called Janota that liked to... comb his hair???!!! Once upon a time, there was a friendship full of adventures between Paulo and Janota... Once upon a time... “Mother, can we call him Janota?” asked Paulo in an important tone of voice, as one is always important when it comes to giving a name to a goldfish. “Of course, son! He’s your goldfish and you will take care of him every day. You will feed him, bathe him, dress him, comb his hair”, replied his mother, laughing as she listed the chores her son would have to do with the goldfish. “Bathe him!? Dress him!? Comb his hair!? Oh, mother, don’t tease me!,” laughed the boy while searching his mother’s shopping bag for something that could serve as food for his new friend. “I could use a little something to eat…” complained Janota, as he kissed and licked the glass of the bowl, hoping that someone might look at him and feel sorry for him, giving him a little something to eat. Paul approached the fish bowl with a plastic bottle and threw some bits of food on top of the water. As soon as they fell, Janota rushed to the surface and slowly nibbled on the little food leaves that were floating on the water, as if waiting for a goldfish to nibble on them... “Mmmmm, yummy! This one tastes like maple leaves and this one... mmmmm... tastes like sweet lichen,” enjoyed the goldfish, while Paulo laughed in sheer disbelief at the fast and rhythmic movements of his new friend." A most delightful, charming story about the relationship between a boy called Paulo and a fish called Janota. 3 Technical Note TITLE O peixe que gostava de se pentear PUBLISHER Alphabetum - Edições Literárias AUTHOR Vasco de Sousa EDITORIAL COORDINATION Maria da Graça Pereira ILLUSTRATIONS Gintare Hermanaviciüte REVISION AND COVER Magnetic PREPRESS Magnetic O peixe que gostava de se pentear 12€ (10% discount for online purchases) PRINTING AND FINISHING Manuel Barbosa & Filhos, Lda ISBN 978-989-8590-11-4 2sd EDITION May 2014 4 About the author Vasco Sousa was born on August 27, 1957 in Matosinhos.
