TO BE (PAST TENSE)
O verbo to be equivale ao verbo ser e ao verbo estar no português como vimos no
capítulo anterior, porém no passado (tempo verbal) ele se transforma em was ou were de
acordo com os pronomes.

• Forma-se a negativa colocando-se not após o verbo.
• Forma-se a interrogativa colocando-se o verbo antes do sujeito.
• Formas abreviadas (contractions): são formadas por:
wasn't (was not)
weren't (were not)
Ex: I was tired. (Eu estava cansado(a).)
He was at his home. (Ele estava na casa dele.)
They were worried. (Eles(as) estavam preocupados(as).)

THERE TO BE (PRESENT / PAST)
Usamos o "there to be" para indicar existência de pessoas, situações e objetos. Igualase ao verbo "haver"/ “existir” em português.

Demonstratives
DEMONSTRATIVES
THIS (este, esta, isto) refere-se a algo ou alguém que está próximo. O plural de this é
THESE.
Ex.: This book is interesting.
These books are interesting.
THAT (aquele, aquela, aquilo) refere-se a algo ou alguém que está longe. O plural de
that é THOSE.
Ex.: That girl over there is my sister.
Those girls over there are my sisters.
