Relations of race and gender in the game: the reproductive issue of the black and white women.

Aims: This study aims to understand reproductive health questions related to black and white women, in view of recent
transformations in the field of gender and race relations and starts from the hypothesis that, like gender, race/ethnicity also permeates
reproductive issues. Methodology: a qualitative research was carried out, interviewing 36 women (18 black and 18 white) from three
different educational backgrounds (higher, secondary and basic). Data were collected by means of the oral, thematic history technique.
Results: black women see motherhood as a gift, which is different from white women. The latter conceive freedom in a broader way,
including public life, while black women’s view is restricted to private life. All black women, independently of their educational level,
report on situations of racism, whether personally or involving a relative or friend. With respect to HIV/AIDS prevention, both groups

Objetivos: Este trabalho visa compreender questões relativas a saúde reprodutiva de mulheres negras e brancas, tendo em vista as
recentes transformações no âmbito das relações de gênero e raça. A hipótese básica para este trabalho é que igualmente ao gênero,
raça/etnia é transversal nas questões reprodutivas. Metodologia: utiliza-se da metodologia qualitativa para entrevistar 36 mulheres (18
negras e 18 brancas) de três grupos de escolaridade (superior, médio e fundamental). A técnica para analise dos dados é a história oraltemática. Resultados: Enquanto as mulheres negras possuem uma concepção de maternidade como dom ou dádiva, isto não se verifica
com as mulheres brancas. A concepção de liberdade é mais ampliada para as mulheres brancas, que visam a vida pública, enquanto as
mulheres negras limitam-se a vida privada. Todas as mulheres negras de qualquer escolaridade relatam situações de racismo, seja com
ela ou com alguém de sua família ou próximo. Com relação a prevenção do HIV/Aids constata-se que o discurso da confiança é
