IACCP 21st Congress — The International
Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology,

The International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology would like to invite you to attend the IACCP
21st Congress in Stellenbosch, South Africa in July
2012. Arrangements for the Congress are progressing
well and the organizers have secured 12 keynote speakers, 12 invited symposia, the Walter J. Lonner Distinguished invited lecture and a State of the Art lecture.
Four pre-conference workshops have been arranged
and will take place before the opening of the conference on 17 July 2012. We are excited about the PhD
Winter School for post-graduate students in psychology and related fields, which includes four streams
led by seasoned cross-cultural psychologists over a
period of four days (13-16 July 2012). The IACCP
has secured sponsorship for one of the steams from
the Jacobs Foundation, which includes a travel grant
as well as registration fee for the winter school and
associated expenses.

Africa’s Future, Kumasi, Ghana
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana and Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Vancouver, Canada, invite you to participate in
the 2nd Biennial Kwame Nkrumah International Conference at the beautiful campus of the Kwame Nkrumah
University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana.
“If in the past the Sahara divided us, now it unites
us.” Dr. Kwame Nkrumah declared some fifty years
ago. Keenly aware of Africa’s many artificial divides,
Nkrumah was determined to lead a revolution that
would bridge those divides. Ethnic divisions are not
racial. There were probably over a thousand languages
in Africa, and hence a thousand histories, traditions,
religions, legal systems, etc. etc. After all, it is a huge
continent – and all that unitespeople IS the experience
of colonialism and neo-colonialism.

1.º Congresso Internacional Portugal-Brasil-África Relações Históricas, Literárias e
Cinematográfica, UBI, Covilhã
Urge refletir e divulgar, de
um ponto de vista sincrônico e diacrônico, domínios
culturais de grande impacto pessoal e social como são
a história, a literatura e o
cinema, manifestações que
podem marcar idiossincrasias ou serem pontes entre
países independentes que
tiveram um passado unido
por uma língua comum.
O 1.º Congresso Internacional Portugal-Brasil-África:
relações históricas, literárias e cinematográficas, resulta de uma parceria entre o Departamento de Letras da
Faculdade de Artes e Letras da Universidade da Beira
Interior, o curso de Cinema da mesma Faculdade e o
Centro de Estudos Africanos da Universidade do Porto apostam, pois, na transdisciplinaridade inerente a
estas iniciativas.
Espera-se, através deste Congresso, aprofundar a análise histórica, literária e cinematográfica da atual lusofonia, uma realidade mutável no tempo.
Comemorando-se em 2012 o Ano de Portugal no Brasil e o Ano do Brasil em Portugal, o Departamento de
Letras da Universidade da Beira Interior fez confluir
essas três áreas geográficas da lusofonia que são Portugal, o Brasil e os PALOP num Congresso Internacional que tivesse por objeto de estudo as suas relações
históricas, literárias e cinematográficas, dispondo no
subtítulo do Congresso, por ordem cronológica, formas de relacionamento cultural cuja base de intercâmbio foi e é a língua portuguesa.

55th Annual Meeting — «Research Frontiers
in the study of Africa», Marriott Philadelphia

This year, the Annual Meeting recognizes that the study
of Africa has become immensely rich and varied. All
achievements and challenges considered, the study of
Africa has matured. Maturity, however, is not a destination but a point of departure. It is that most consequential moment at which a truly (re)defining quest begins.
The ASA Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of
Africanist scholars in the world. With an average attendance of 1,400 scholars and professionals, the conference offers more than 200 panels and roundtables,
scholarly and professional plenary and institutional
events, awards and prizes, as well as discussion groups,
an international exhibit hall, and an on-demand film to
appreciate the teaching, research, and professional results of Africanist scholars and that of their colleagues.
Let us boldly engage this task and therefore think big
and beyond—beyond the attractions of the scholarship
of immediacy and near-vision, the comfort of easy oppositions, the satisfaction with basic-level breakthroughs,
and the cultivated fear of optimism or of pessimism.
It is with this mindset that we
task you, our colleagues, to set
out to explore what are and
should be “Research Frontiers
in the Study of Africa.”
The Annual Meeting is held in cooperation with major colleges, universities and museums in different regions of North America and attracts participants from
North and South America, Africa, Asia and Europe.
A few years ago, the ASA marked a half-century of its
active devotion to the production and dissemination
of knowledge on and about Africa.

Espaços de Língua Portuguesa, Faculdade

O fórum de discussão «Cânone, Margem e Periferia nos
Espaços da Língua Portuguesa» pretende uma abordagem interdisciplinar que se debruce sobre a negociação
do paradigma de produção e difusão do conhecimento
associado ao centro e o papel da periferia nessa negociação. O cruzamento interdisciplinar sobre esta temática
permitirá aferir uma perspectiva histórica, linguística,
sociológica e culturalmente informada e problematizante de questões ligadas a cânone, centro, margem.
Nos dias 17 e 18 de Junho de 2012 decorrerá na Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa o seminário
Cânone, Margem e Periferia organizado pelo Centro
de Estudos Comparistas da Universidade de Lisboa.
As actuais relações de poder entretecidas entre a
periferia e o centro permitem a negociação de sentidos que convocam categorias problematizantes do
paradigma do centro como pólo simultaneamente
produtor e difusor de uma heurística fundadora
e institucionalizante do conhecimento. Podendo
perspectivar-se periferia como margem do centro
a partir da qual este se define, essa relação constitui-se simultaneamente como ponto de tensão e de
atenção do centro na negociação de problemáticas
inerentes aos papéis sociais e económicos atribuídos, com reflexos nas diversas áreas da actividade
humana, da linguagem à produção artística e ao
pensamento intelectual e científico.
Convidam-se estudantes, investigadores e professores
a apresentarem comunicações. Os resumos deverão
ser enviados até ao próximo dia 30 de Setembro para
o endereço abaixo indicado. A aceitação dos mesmos
será comunicada até 15 de Outubro de 2012.

de desenvolvimento socioeconómico dos respetivos
países e quando está previstas ações de desenvolvimento de elevados números de habitações e de reurbanização de extensas áreas em vários dos países
da lusofonia que se debatem com críticas carências
habitacionais e de ordenamento urbanístico.

women by colonising men.

The School is particularly keen to recruit a scholar
with research specialisms outwith Europe and North
America (i.e. in African, South American, Australasian or Asian history).

strong academic leadership both within the History
Subject Area at Edinburgh and in the wider School of
History, Classics & Archaeology as well as to develop
collaborative links both within and beyond the School.

Doutoramento em Estudos Africanos
Os objectivos deste ciclo de estudos de doutoramento
são promover a formação avançada no domínio científico dos Estudos Africanos através da investigação, contribuindo para o avanço do conhecimento e para a formação de investigadores, professores do ensino superior
e profissionais de qualificação elevada.
a. Titulares do grau de licenciado ou equivalente legal;
b. Titulares de 1 grau académico superior estrangeiro conferido na sequência de um 1º ciclo de estudos organizado
de acordo com os princípios do Processo de Bolonha;
c. Titulares de um grau académico superior estrangeiro
que seja reconhecido como satisfazendo os objectivos
do grau de licenciado pelo órgão científico estatutariamente competente do estabelecimento de ensino superior onde pretendem ser admitidos;
d. Detentores de currículo escolar, científico ou profissional, que seja reconhecido como atestando a capacidade

O ISCTE-IUL está vocacionado para a prossecução destes
objectivos. Desde 1989-1990 tem desenvolvido, ininterruptamente, cursos de Mestrado em Estudos Africanos.
Tem igualmente uma relação estreita com o Centro de
Estudos Africanos (CEA/ISCTE-IUL), reconhecido pela
FCT e avaliado com elevada classificação, que contribui
para oferecer um ambiente propício à formação avançada
ao nível do doutoramento.
O Doutoramento em Estudos Africanos do ISCTE-IUL
inclui um ciclo de estudos que, no primeiro ano, oferece
formação avançada em Estudos Africanos e métodos de
investigação, para além de informação sistemática sobre a
produção científica nesta área e de um seminário de projecto de investigação. Os segundo e terceiro anos, durante
os quais é desenvolvida a pesquisa e elaborada a tese, são
acompanhados de um seminário de investigação e de um
ciclo de conferências.

Nos termos do Regulamento de Bolsas da Fundação

concurso para financiamento de bolsas individuais

Área Científica | Estudos Africanos
Requisitos de admissão: Os candidatos devem possuir formação superior em Ciências Sociais em geral.
Deverão estar já inscritos num programa de mestrado,
preferencialmente com projectos individuais de investigação relacionados com o trabalho a desenvolver no
âmbito da Bolsa. A proficiência em SPSS e a capacidade de escrita em inglês são condições preferenciais.
Bolsas de Pós-Doutoramento (BPD)
Destinam-se a candidatos doutorados, preferencialmente aqueles que tenham obtido o grau há menos
de seis anos, para realizarem trabalhos avançados de
investigação.
Local de trabalho: Centro de Estudos sobre África e do
Desenvolvimento, no Instituto Superior de Economia e
Gestão, Rua Miguel Lupi, 20 em Lisboa, Portugal, sob a
orientação científica do Prof. Doutor Carlos Sangreman.
A duração da bolsa é, em regra, anual, prorrogável
até ao máximo de seis anos, desde que obtenha parecer favorável na avaliação intermédia feita no fim do
primeiro triénio.
Duração da bolsa: A bolsa terá a duração de 4 meses,
com início previsto em Setembro de 2012.
Bolsas de Doutoramento (BD)
Valor do subsídio de manutenção mensal: O montante bruto da bolsa corresponde a €745/mês, conforme tabela de valores das bolsas atribuídas directamente pela FCT, I.P. no País (http://alfa.fct.mctes.
pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). Acresce sobre esse valor o
montante de €83.84/mês relativos ao Seguro Social
Voluntário. A Bolsa será paga todos os meses entre os
dias 22 e 30 através de transferência bancária.
Destinam-se a quem satisfaça as condições previstas
no n.º 1 do Artigo 30.º do Decreto-Lei n.º 74/2006,
de 24 de março, alterado pelos Decretos-Leis n.º
107/2008, de 25 de junho, e 230/2009, de 14 de
Setembro, e que pretenda desenvolver trabalhos de
investigação conducentes à obtenção do grau académico de doutor.
A duração da bolsa é, em regra, anual, prorrogável até
ao máximo de quatro anos, não podendo ser concedida por períodos inferiores a seis meses consecutivos.
