INTRODUCTION
The Mechanical engineering Graduate Program at the Pontifical Catholic University of
Parana has the pleasure to invite graduate students (preferably PhD students) to attend the
2nd PhD international school on Buildings Physics, which is an initiative to internationalize
research in the area of hygrothermal and energy modeling of buildings, including risk
assessment of energy performance.
This school is supported by the International Association of Building Physics and the focus is
on the state-of-the-art knowledge about heat, air and moisture response of materials,
components and whole buildings. Topics of the advanced building physics course include the
physics behind porous materials, design methods and system behavior, biological growth
(mould, rot), material deterioration, comfort assessment, methods to solve building physics
problems, statistical methods for total energy use in buildings, energy use, reliability of
retrofitting measures.
Topics will be split into knowledge input and hands-on examples during the lessons.
Graduate students might be interested to know that this international school is valid for 6
credits in the Brazilian graduate system and 5 ECTS (2.5 ECTS for attending the school and
2.5 for the additional work) in the European system.
