Programme of Social Promotion for Gypsy People Origin of the Programme of Social Promotion for Gypsy People In the very beginning of the eighties of the last century the Santa Casa da Misercórdia of Lisbon felt the necessity of creating a specific answer for the gypsy community of Lisbon, seeing that her members looked regularly for our services, nonetheless we did not have a profound knowledge of the specificities of this ethnic group. The answer we found was the Programme of Social Promotion for Gypsy People (PPSC) that has developped, during its existence, different work approaches in order to attend the expectations of this specific group. The Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Lisbon continues to believe that it is necessary to invest in those that live in feeble socio-economical conditions and due to that have more possibilities to be excluded. The Programme PPSC exists for them, in an intercultural perspective of valorization of the knowledges of all the involved and that of each person, recognizing the rigt of difference.
