To the INRIA Internship Tutors Khaled Khelif and Rose Dieng-Kuntz
I am a master student at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) in Brazil, one of the
internship partners of the renowned INRIA. Hereby I apply for the INRIA internship subject
279 - Semantic mining of the Web to provide supplementary knowledge to users | Fouille
sémantique du Web afin de fournir des connaissances supplémentaires pour les usagers.
I started pursuing the master degree in the first months of 2007. After achieving a master
degree, I intend to extend my research towards a doctoral degree. My areas of interest are
data mining and semantics. In my master thesis, I will propose a technique for mining XML
hyperlinked documents. The semantics of concepts in XML documents are usually defined
in ontologies and often associated by links. In my master I will explore these relationships
in order to provide knowledge in the form of association or classification rules.
My motivation to fill this position comes from the similarity between the internship subject
and my master work. During my major, I used Java and JSP in my 8 months-work in a
research project concerned with the creation and maintenance of thematic digital libraries.
Therefore, I am comfortable using these technologies.
I believe that rich information exchange can rise from this internship. I am highly motivated
to work with people from different cultures. I took part of my major at the
University of Manitoba (Canada) as an exchange student. There I studied and worked with
people from many countries. It was a fantastic experience. Although English is my second
language, I am confident using it on any skill. Besides, I am very motivated to learn French.
I hope to participate on the internship and contribute to INRIA research project as much as I
can.
Regards,
Carla Tanure
