George Blackett
George Blackett, originário da cidade de Leeds estabeleceu-se na cidade do Porto no século XIX como
comerciante de Vinhos do Porto. O seu posicionamento dentro do sector permitiu-lhe uma progressão
assinalável figurando no Top Five dos maiores
comerciantes desse século de acordo com os livros de
imposição de vinho (arquivo municipal do Porto).
George Blackett, born in the city of Leeds, was established
in Oporto in the nineteenth century as a merchant of Port
wines. Its positioning within the industry allowed him
to notable progress figuring in the Top Five of the biggest
traders of the century according to the registration books of
Oporto Customs (municipal archives of Porto).
Nos primórdios do seculo XX, os seus filhos alargaram a actividade ao
transporte marítimo fundando a companhia Blackett e Magalhães. A
actividade do comércio do vinho do porto manteve-se importante mas
caindo para 11º no Ranking dos maiores comerciantes. Posteriormente
esta actividade prosseguiu através da empresa Blackett e Companhia, mais
tarde Blackett Sucessores até ser integrada numa grande companhia após o
término da segunda guerra mundial mais precisamente em 1949.
O relançamento deste nome pela Alchemy Wines, Port Wines & Vineyards,
Lda tem como propósito marcar o poder do tempo e dum vinho que sobrevive e cresce ao longo de sucessivas gerações. Um nome esquecido encontrado na história do Vinho do Porto, uma história perdida para a história
mas um seguro exemplo de autenticidade.
In the early twentieth century, his sons expanded the business to shipping founding
the company Blackett and Magalhães. The activity of the port wine trade remained
important but falling to 11th in the ranking of the largest traders. Later this
activity continued through the company Blackett and Company, later Blackett
Successors which was integrated in a large company after the end of World War II
more precisely in 1949.
The revival of the name by Alchemy Wines, Port Wines & Vineyards Lda aims to
mark the power of time and with a wine that survives and grows over successive
generations. A forgotten name found in the history of Port wine, a story lost in
history but a safe example of authenticity.
Os Vinhos do Porto Blackett de 10, 20 e 30 Anos resultaram da lotação
de vinhos de superior qualidade, envelhecidos em cascos com as referidas
idades médias.
São vinhos com aromas cuja intensidade e complexidade foi evoluindo e
moldada pelo tempo. No vinho de 10 anos encontramos nuances de frutos
maduros, frescura, alguma complexidade e um fim longo. No de 20 anos
os aromas intensificam-se o vinho ganha corpo e toque de veludo, o final é
longo e persistente com uma frescura equilibrada. O vinhos de 30 anos os
aromas aparecem carregados de intensidade e complexidade evoluindo para
algumas notas de mel, noz e folha de tabaco tornando-se encorpado e denso
com uma equilibrada acidez e com um elegante final de boca.
Port wines Blackett of 10, 20 and 30 Years resulted from the blending of top quality
wines aged in casks with those middle ages.
These are wines with aromas whose intensity and complexity has evolved and
shaped by time. Wine in 10 years we find hints of ripe fruit, freshness, some
complexity and a long finish. In 20 years the aromas intensify the wine gains body
and velvet touch, the finish is long and lingering with a balanced freshness. The
wines of 30 years aromas appear loaded with intensity and complexity evolving for
some notes of honey, walnut and tobacco leaf becomes full bodied and dense with a
balanced acidity and an elegant finish.
