FROM THE GOSPEL
In Robert Frost’s poem “Mending Wall,” the
speaker, upon hearing his neighbor quoting the
adage “Good fences make good neighbors,” replies
that he is tempted to respond that, before building
the wall, he’d like to know what was being walled in
or walled out, and who would be offended by it. In
the Letter to the Ephesian, the image of a wall is
used to describe the way in which the people of
Israel had been separated from all the other people of
the world – the Gentiles – by God’s covenant with
Israel? In the book of Genesis, when making the
covenant with Abraham, God says explicitly that this
is being done so that in Abraham “all the families of
nations might be blessed” (12,3). The point of the
covenant and the commandments was not to divide
Jews from Gentiles, but to create a space in which
God’s will could be lived out with such fidelity that
Israel would become a shining beacon, drawing all
people into right relationship with God.
But in Jesus’ day many had come to see the covenant
as a wall separating them form other people. They
were not asking themselves whom they were walling
out and to whom they might be giving offense. They
were not even asking whether viewing the covenant
in this way might be giving offense to God who had
intended the covenant to be a means of blessing to
all the nations. Jesus’ mission was to restore God’s
covenant to its original purpose, preaching peace to
those who were far off and to those who were near,
reconciling Jew and Gentile as he himself fell victim
to “the dividing wall of enmity.” Yet it would be
through the cross and resurrection of Jesus that all
people would come to share in the blessings of
God’s Spirit.
Holy Spirit of God, you draw all peoples into unity.
May you lead us to break down walls of hostility and
separation, so that your blessing may extend to all
people. Amen.
THANK DOUGLES
I would like to say thank you to Dougles for renting
a dumpster and taking out all the old stuff from the
school-convent. The convent is going to be rented to
a group of volunteer students. It is a program
coordinated by the Sisters of Notre Dame. Therefore,
we are not looking for money, but it is a way we
could also help the sisters to fulfill their mission.
Overall it is better off to keep the convent
functioning than closed it. Dougles is always doing
great favor to the church.
Also I would like to thank all the painter who
donated their time to painting the school hall and the
lower church. Aroldo Silva and his companions
Célio Santos, Marcos Santos, Ronan Silva, Braz
Matias, José Venancio, Toninho do PT, Sergio

EVANGELHO
Depois da partilha, os discípulos são convidados por
Jesus a um lugar distante para descansar. O
“descanso” é o que permite ver que é Deus quem
está na origem de todo o bem feito. O descanso é
dado para recordar o quanto o Senhor fez por seu
povo. A proposta não pode ser levada a termo em
razão do grande número de pessoas que procuravam
Jesus e do sentimento que move Jesus na realização
de sua missão a “compaixão”. A compaixãoo é um
sentimento divino que faz agir em favor das pessoas,
socorrendo-as em suas necessidades; não se
confunde com a simples pena ou dó, mas abre o
coração para que a pessoa ofereça o melhor de si
mesma em favor dos demais. O abandono do povo
por aqueles que deviam cuidar dele qual pastor cuida
dos seu rebanho é a causa da compaixão de Jesus.
MUITISSIMO OBRIGADO AOS PINTORES
Hoje temos que reconhecer e agradecer a todos os
pintores que doaram o seu tempo para pintar a igreja
de baixo e o salão da escola: o Aloisio Costa, Braz
Matias, Silvio Santos, José Venâncio, Toninho do
PT, Cicero e Irineu ... enquanto o Aroldo Silva e
seus companheiros Célio Santos, Marcos Santos,
Ronan Silva. Obrigado ao Aroldo que também doou
a tinta. Fizemos muito e muito ainda está para ser
feito. Esperamos que até a festa de setembro –
celebração dos 100 anos da paróquia tudo esteja
bem. Esse trabalho representa a contribuição da
comunidade neste projeto de restauração da igreja e
da escola. O que parecia um projeto pequeno tornouse grande e de qualidade. Todas as luzes da igreja e
do salão foram feitas, manufaturadas, para este fim
especifico. Por isso a demora. Mas de agora em
diante, vamos ter um salão decente e uma igreja
iluminada.
CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
Estamos trabalhando nos convites do centenário. O
menu do almoço já está sendo preparado e,
provavelmente, estrará pronto para este fim de
semana. É uma grata surpresa: barato e excelente.
Queremos que os paroquianos encham o salão. Os
convites serão enviados a todas as pessoas que tiram
fotos para o livro do centenário e os demais podem
ser adquiridos na casa paroquial. Os tickets serão
limitados já que se trata de uma festa de gala. Por
tanto, não percam tempo em adquirir o seu ingresso.
Será uma festa inesquecível.
VIAGEM PARA FILADEFIA
No final de setembro o Papa Francisco estará
encerrado o congresso das famílias que será
realizado em Filadélfia no final do mês de setembro.
Uma caravana de peregrinos das várias comunidades
brasileiras de Boston estarão partindo daqui da nossa
igreja Santo Antônio no dia 27 de setembro a meia
noite, 12:00 a.m. retornado no final da tarde ou noite
do mesmo dia. A viagem tem a duração de 6 horas.
Interessados na peregrinação devem entrar em
contato com o Sr. José Venâncio 617-866-2548 para
assinar um contrato. O preço estimado é de $125.00.
Aproveite a oportunidade para ver o Papa e conhecer
um pouco a cidade dos murais, desenhos lindos à
vista de todos na rua.

O Cor é um curso de formação religiosa, retiro, que
se realiza todos os anos entre as comunidades
católicas brasileiras da área de Boston. Neste ano ele
acontecerá nos dias 29 e 30 de agosto na casa de
retiros em Waltham. Começa às 8:00 a.m , sábado, e
termina no final da tarde de domingo com a
celebração da Santa Missa. O preço é de $110.00. A
igreja ajuda com $50.00 por pessoa. Os que

Apelo Católico, e a nossa meta de 18,953.oo ainda
não foi atingida. Estamos com $16,725.00;
