THE CONFERENCE
History
The Portuguese Conferences on Fracture are held every
two years in the context of the Sociedade Portuguesa de
Materiais since 1987.
The last edition of the Portuguese Conference on Fracture
(12th) took place in Porto at the campus of Faculdade de
Engenharia da Universidade do Porto on 17-19 March 2010
and was a joint event together with the XXVII Encuentro del
Grupo Español de Fractura, the IVth Iberian Conference on
Fracture.
The 13th Portuguese Conference on Fracture (PCF2012) will
be held in February 2nd and 3rd 2012 in Coimbra.
Location
The 13th Portuguese Conference on Fracture (PCF2012) will
be held at the Department of Mechanical Engineering,
Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra.
The City of Coimbra has its own very special mystique, the
result of a past full of important events and of the memories
of the many thousands of Portuguese who, dispersed around
the country or abroad, remember the carefree, easygoing,
hopeful years spent here in their youth as students at the
University.
In the 1990s the university expanded towards the second
campus (Polo II) on the right bank of the River Mondego.
Dedicated to Science and Technology, this features buildings
by some of the best-known contemporary architects.

Scientific Committee
Call for Papers
Authors wishing to contribute to the conference are invited
to submit a one-page abstract to the conference chairman
([email protected] ) by July 31, 2011. The abstracts should
be written in A4 paper (portrait orientation) with 2.5 cm
margins. Times New Roman 12-point fonts should be used
with single-line spacing. Abstracts will be evaluated by
members of the conference scientific committee, and authors
will receive notification of acceptance of their proposed
contribution by September 30. Full length papers should be
received by the chairman of the organizing committee by
November 15, 2009, so that there is enough time for the
preparation of the volume of full papers, to be distributed to
all participants. Confirmation of participation will be required
after the paper is accepted.

The papers will be published in the Proceedings of the
Conference. A special number of the journal of SPM “Ciência e
Tecnologia dos Materiais” will be published with selected
