MACIEJ POPOWSKI
Maciej Popowski é Secretário-Geral adjunto para as Questões Interinstitucionais do Serviço
Europeu para a Acção Externa (SEAE). Desde o início da sua carreira como diplomata polaco
que se tem dedicado às questões europeias. Participou nas negociações de acesso da Polónia à
União Europeia, quer em Bruxelas quer em Varsóvia, onde foi director do Departamento
Europeu do Ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros entre 2000 e 2001. De 2001 a 2008 foi o
Representante Permanente Adjunto da Representação Permanente da Polónia no Comité
Político e de Segurança da União Europeia. De 2008 a 2009 Popowski foi Director da Direcção
Geral de Desenvolvimento da Comissão Europeia, onde foi responsável, entre outras coisas,
pela coerência política, eficácia da ajuda, relações com outros doadores e informação ao
público. Em 2009 foi nomeado pela Comissão Europeia para Chefe de Gabinete de Jerzy Buzek,
Presidente do Parlamento Europeu.

Maciej Popowski is a Deputy Secretary General at the European External Action Service. He is a
Polish diplomat, who since the beginning of his career has been working on European affairs.
He took part in the accession negotiations of Poland with the European Union both in Brussels
and in Warsaw, where he was director of the EU department of the Foreign Ministry between
2000 and 2001. From 2001 – 2008 he was the Deputy Head of the Permanent Representation
of the Republic of Poland to the European Union’s Political and Security Committee (PSC). From
2008 – 2009 Popowski was a Director at the Development Directorate General of the European
Commission responsible, inter alia, for policy coherence, aid effectiveness, relations with other
donors and public information. In 2009 he was seconded from the European Commission to
head the cabinet of Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament.
