gastronomia coleciona elogios. E ainda tem Machu Picchu, um
lugar que todo mundo precisa conhecer

mention Machu Picchu, one of those must-see places
IR A MACHU PICCHU, A CIDADE PERDIDA DOS INCAS, é uma
daquelas coisas que todo mundo deve fazer pelo menos uma vez na
vida. Além de ser Patrimônio da Humanidade, do visual arrebatador
e de todo o valor histórico, é um lugar com atmosfera mágica, mística,
capaz de mexer até mesmo com os mais céticos – e isso nada tem a
ver com os efeitos da elevada altitude. Impossível passar imune à aura
de mistério e grandeza que envolve esse sítio arqueológico, originalmente construído no século 15, mas só descoberto em 1911.
Muito se fala sobre o Sanctuary Lodge, o único hotel dentro do
parque, instalado no topo da montanha. Trata-se de um baita cinco
estrelas, e conta com a melhor vista da região, é verdade, mas de
longe não é a melhor opção de hospedagem. O legal mesmo é ficar
no Vale Sagrado. A vantagem é que você poderá conhecer os vilarejos dos arredores, abusar das compras nos mercados (o de Pisac,
a 32 quilômetros de Cuzco, é um dos melhores), provar diferentes
restaurantes e fazer passeios diversos, como rafting no rio Urubamba
ou cavalgada por sua margem. Além disso, Cuzco, cidade histórica
cheia de charme que merece uns dois dias da viagem, está a apenas
50 minutos. E mais: não deixe de fazer a viagem de trem. O percur-

THE INCA, is one of those things everybody must do at
least once. Besides being a World Heritage site and having magnificent views and historic value, it is magical
enough to rattle even the hardiest skeptic – far beyond
the effects of the altitude. One cannot escape the aura
of mystery and grandeur that covers the site, originally
built in the 1400s and rediscovered in 1911.
The Sanctuary Lodge, the park’s only hotel, lies at
the top of the mountain and is a five-star with the best
view of the region, but not really the best hospitality
choice there. Staying in the Sacred Valley is the real
thing, with the benefit of letting you experience the
nearby villages, shop (the Pisac market, 32 km from
Cuzco, is one of the best) and try different restaurants
and rides, such as rafting down the Urubamba River
or riding a horse along its banks. In addition Cuzco, a
charming historic city that deserves a two-day visit,
lies just 50 minutes away. And more: do take the train
