Dear colleagues,
It is a great pleasure to announce ACBEU’s 53rd TEFL Seminar, entitled “Technology:
establishing new boundaries between teaching and learning”, to be held at ACBEU
Vitória - July 16th and 17th, 2014.
ACBEU’S TEFL Seminar is open to all English teachers who strive at keeping themselves
up-to-date on the latest theories and methodologies in language instruction, and
desire to gain new insights into the always evolving world of teaching and learning
languages. This seminar is also a great opportunity for teachers, just like you, who wish
to be part of a community of professionals who inspire each other to achieve the
highest standards of excellence.
Therefore, we would like to invite the ELT community to participate and/or send a
proposal to give a presentation in our seminar. Please, find enclosed the Call for
Papers and share this information with your staff. Feel free to make the necessary
photocopies.
We look forward enormously to welcoming a record number of proposals not only
from teachers in Bahia, but also from our colleagues from all the other states in Brazil.
Don’t miss this opportunity to visit Salvador, Bahia, and to share your experiences and
ideas with others.

CALL FOR PAPERS
If you are interested in presenting a plenary session, offering a workshop, giving a talk,
presenting a poster session or participating in a roundtable at our seminar, either
alone or with a fellow teacher, please read the information below and fill out the
attached form.
1. Format of Presentation
a.
Workshop (120 minutes)
A carefully structured, hands-on professional development activity. The leader
helps participants solve a problem or develop a specific teaching or research
technique. Handouts are expected and audiovisual aids are encouraged.
b. Plenary session (90 minutes )
This is a presentation of topical interest based on focused research, professional
experience, or projects carried out with a particular outcome in mind.
c. Publisher Presentation (30 minutes)
A publisher presentation is an opportunity for publishers to present recently
released textbooks, spotlight an author, or discuss commercial materials.
d. Poster session (45 minutes)
This is a presentation of research information by an individual or representatives of
research teams with an academic or professional focus. A separate area will be
reserved for the poster session, where researchers accompany a paper poster to
illustrate their research methods and outcomes.
e. Talks (45 minutes)
An oral summary, with occasional reference to notes or a text, that discusses the
presenter’s work in relation to theory and/or practice.
f. Roundtable Discussion (45 minutes)
Peer-to-peer facilitated discussion with a small group of attendees.
2. STEPS IN SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL
a. Complete the proposal form attached. All forms should be typed and sent by email to Moema Leite Dias: [email protected] no later than May 30th,
2014.
b. Presenters will be notified of the committee’s decision by June 16th, 2014.

Workshops will be held from 2:00 to 4:00pm.
Plenary sessions will be held from 9:00 to10:30am.,
11:00-12:30am, and 4:30-6:00pm Commercial
presentations from 11 to 11:30 and 11:30 to 12:00.
All participants will be automatically registered for
plenaries and workshops and choice will be made
on-site of preferred concurrent sessions.
Places are limited and preference will be given to
those who register first.
