"Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you
will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me."
At that statement his face fell, and he went away sad,
for he had many possessions. Jesus looked around
and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for those
who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!"

St. Michael’s Increased Weekly Giving Program is very
important to our financial stability. It is also important
to show our gratitude to God for our many gifts by
responding to the needs of our parish. If you have not
returned your response envelope, please do so at the
first opportunity.

The Sacrament of Confirmation. Please notice that
the time for our Confirmation ceremony with Bishop
Walter Edyvean next Saturday, October 20th has been
changed from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon.
St. Michael’s Parish began our annual CORI checks last
weekend and will have it again on October 13th and 14th.
The forms have changed this year and require the last 6
digits of your Social Security number. ALL
VOLUNTEERS, INCLUDING RENEWALS MUST
FILLOUT A NEW FORM. There will be a staff person
in the church at all the Masses on those four days for you
to present the form and a picture ID. In addition, if you
have not attended the VIRTUS program, you will be
asked to sign up for the next date the program will be
presented; and if you have already attended you don’t
need to do it again. The program is about how to
recognize the signs of abuse in children. Because of
regulations and mandates from the Archdiocese, failure to
complete the CORI form will result in not being able to
perform your ministry. If you are not able to fill out the
form on those two dates, it will be available at the Parish
Center during the hours between 10:00am-4:00pm. Please
see Helena, Carmen, Gerry or Pat. Any questions, please

October is Abuse Awareness Month. Abuse can affect
virtually anyone from all walks of life, including men,
women, children, and seniors. It can take the form of
physical battery, emotional bullying, sexual abuse, neglect
or even self-inflicted harm.

Whatever your situation, you deserve to live without pain
and fear. Whether you’re the abused, the abuser, or a
concerned friend or family member, it’s important to
know that there is help available. By learning about the
different types of abuse and what you can do to stop or
prevent it, you can make a huge difference in your own or
someone else’s life.

There are many types of abuse: domestic violence,

neglect, child abuse and neglect and bullying and cyberbullying.

Recognizing abuse is the first step to getting help. Abuse
often escalates from threats and verbal abuse to violence.
While physical injury may be the most obvious danger,
the emotional and psychological consequences of abuse
are also severe. Emotionally abusive relationships can
destroy your self-worth, lead to anxiety and depression,
and make you feel helpless and alone. No one should
have to endure this kind of pain---and your first step to
breaking free is recognizing that your situation is abusive.
Once you acknowledge the reality of the abusive
situation, then you can get the help you need.

this Sunday October 14th after all Masses. Please call
Maria Braga at (978) 562-2838 to order yours in advance
or stop by to get yours after Mass. All proceeds will go to
St. Michael Parish. Thank you!!!
ONE SUNDAY FOR THE WHOLE WORLD
Next Sunday, Pope Benedict XVI calls every Catholic
in the world to celebrate our vocation to be missionary.
It's World Mission Sunday!
As Catholics around the world--here at home and in the
Missions--gather at the Eucharist around the table of
the Lord, we are to pray for the Church's worldwide
missionary work. We pray for those awaiting the "Good
News" of our Lord's great love for us and for the
missionaries who offer the poor and suffering the light
of Christ. And we are to offer financial help through the
Society for the Propagation of the Faith for more than
1,150 dioceses in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the
Pacific Islands.
Sunday Throughout the Week:
SHARING THE GOSPEL
The man in today's Gospel reading thought he was pretty
good. He had been careful to obey most of God's rules.
But he forgot the most important rule of all-love God with
all your heart, mind, soul and strength. When Jesus asked
the man to give away all he owned, the man went away
sad. He loved money more than he loved God.
PRAYER
Dear God, help me to love you more than all the gifts you
have given to me.
MISSION FOR THE WEEK
Make a list of things that are special to you. If God asked
you to give away your favorite toy or game to someone
who's poor, could you do it? Be honest with God, and ask
him to help you love him more than anything.
