Instructions for the Use of Myorelaxing Plates
The Myorelaxing Plate is a device that doesn’t change the teeth’s position. It is not a “dental appliance”. Its
purpose is to relax the muscles that work in chewing. These muscles are damaged (swollen) as a result of
emotional stress. The impairment of these muscles leads to some problems, such as pain and/or discomfort
of the joint next to the ear, headaches and can reach the neck and back. Some patients have other
symptoms such as earache, pain behind the eye and dizziness.
The plate also works like a protector for patients who clench or grind their teeth. This reduces wearing of
teeth, both on the part where you bite as well as the part of the tooth near the gum. On account of this teeth
“chewing”, some patients develop heightened sensitivity to cold and heat and this greatly improves with the
use of the plate.
Below are some recommendations and important information for best usage of this device:
1.
The plate cannot have any bascule (space), it must be firm and the teeth should touch it
simultaneously. If that is not happening, inform us to adjust it.
2.
There may be discomfort and sore teeth in the first days of use of the plate, which is inherent to
adaptation and will be resolved in a few days.
3.
Always use the plate to sleep. There is not restraint to using the plate during other times of the
day, especially during work at a computer. Other indications for use may be recommended
according to each case.
4.
Sanitizing the plate must be done after brushing teeth in the morning. Brush the plate with a nail
brush and toothpaste or even with a toothbrush.
5.
Bring the plate to all our appointments or with any other dentist, it must be periodically adjusted
and any change that exists in teeth must be adapted to the plate.
