Teachers and students from the Escola do Cerco to participate in an event that foments creativity
SONAE AND TEDx O’PORTO CHALLENGE YOUNGSTERS
FROM THE ESCOLA DO CERCO TO BE CREATIVE AND
ENTREPRENEURIAL
Sonae is going to allow students and teachers from the Escola do Cerco to participate in TEDx
O’Porto, an event that has the objective of stimulating the materialisation of new ideas and providing
an opportunity to share up-to-date tendencies from the worlds of Technology, Entertainment and
Design. This initiative falls within the realm of Sonae´s corporate responsibility policy and aims to
foment entrepreneurship and innovation amongst youngsters, and likewise enable equal
opportunities.
Catarina Oliveira Fernandes, Sonae´s Communication, Brand and Corporate Responsibility Director
highlights that “ Education is one of the main pillars within Sonae´s corporate responsibility strategy,
and for this reason we support and carry out a number of initiatives in schools, mainly with the
Agrupamento de Escolas do Cerco (a grouping of infant, primary and secondary schools), our partners
in the Programa Porto de Futuro (a programme involving partnerships between schools and
companies in the north of Portugal with the objective of transferring good practices and knowledge
from the business world to the schools in the city. The program also involves institutions and local
entities) the aim of which is to enable youngsters to come into contact with new realities and enrich
their knowledge base. With these initiatives we seek to foment creativity, entrepreneurship and
innovation, values that are part of Sonae´s DNA.”
Under the theme “In Fusion”, the event hopes to stimulate interdisciplinarity and diversity of teams
and communities, in addition to creativity and open-mindedness so as to allow for the creation of
innovative solutions to meet contemporary needs within the current context.
The 2013 edition of TEDx O’Porto takes place on 13th April at Alfândega do Porto. The panel includes
Portuguese and international speakers, amongst whom are: marketing consultant Pedro Caride,
Eurodeputy Rui Tavares, business woman Catarina Portas, strategic innovation consultant Luís
Rasquilha and starred Michelin restaurant chef Vincent Farges.
