“Born in São Paulo, Stella Gomide is graduated in Drawing and Plastic at Mackenzie University and
has a Teaching Degree by Santa Marcelina College. Stella lectured in several courses, mainly on Artistic
Design, with some famous brazilian artist like Carlos Fajardo, Cássio Michalany, Newmann Schutze and
Maazo Rek, as well at Brazilian Sculpture Museum. Nowadays she belongs to a group called “Visual Poetics of
Interaction”, at the Contemporary Art Museum of São Paulo, studyng classical artists in a digital work.
The artist participated in several group exibitions in Brazil and abroead.( New York, Miami, Paris,Hungary,
Austria, Chile. Her works incorporates private collections in Brazil, USA and Israel. Mainly of her works are
dedicated to create a contemporary view os the big cities, like São Paulo”. She also likes to draw anonimous
people from the big cities, and make art from tetrapak milk boxes , with São Paulo scenes drawn over it. “

I was born in São Paulo, Brazil 1977. Since early childhood I draw and paint; my parents suggested
I started studying oil painting at age 11. In 1998 I got a Bachelor’s degree in Arts from Anhembi
Morumbi University. Later I got a post-degree at Faculdade de Belas Arts de São Paulo (Fine Arts
School of São Paulo) in Arts 2003. I am influenced by the French Impressionists , postimpressionists
and figurative painters like Modigliani, Monet, Klimt, Gaughin, Van Gogh, Lautrec, Degas…
creating my own modernist style.

These photos were taken on the pedestrian beach bike
path of Barra ( RJ Brazil). The goal was to register
the contrast between a newly placed asphalt layer
on another older than there was, briging to the fore
(revealing) thus a rich image into shapes, stains an
strong contrast created from a bicycle path. So I could
take a photo through the process of transformation of
strong visual impact.

Since my childhood, in the south of Brazil, I felt driven by images. Any
images! A pencil, a piece of paper, an idea...and, as time went by, I gradually
lost my fear. Oil, acrylic, enamel, polyurethane became part of my everyday
life helping to decant ideas and images. Medicine certainly helped to define
pains, disabilities and my emptiness. The object of my search was how to
present feelings and meanings through form and eventually, always analysing
the process, I concluded that the figurative-abstract, the colours and their
absences, the sequences of points formed my indefinable being.

PABLO SLAWINSKI - PAINTINGS
Captives are inhuman beings, pure portrays, sensations made of perceptive and endearment, active forces
released by its captivity. The title of the series designed to the power of the pre-individuals or essencials, multiple captivated about to be released to the outbreaking of new inorganic shapes of expression and creation.
Pablo Slawinski was born on November 26th, 1976 in Rio de Janeiro city where he resides. Throughout his
whole life he went through different areas that were at the same time complimentaries, where the work with
his hands where the main diference for the enrichment of his art.
Captives are unconscious manifestation of the inhuman state of being – creations of the pure essencials signs –
signs that do not represent, do not individualize, do not have any significant nor meaning, they are expressions
of sensations and intensities. Captives by philosophical definition are manifestations of the captive essence
inside the soul. The essence does not belong to the subject (concious), it is within the subject, that is, the
subject has to be cracked in order for the individual give a way to the expression.
On his communication course, he chose the journalism major in order to improve his writing skills. Parallel he
studied philosophy with emphasis in Deleuze, Spinoza, Nietzsche and Foucault. Years later, already working
as a chef of high class gastronomy, intuitivelly elaborated a method of harmonizing his dishes.
The essences are forces of the unconscious that become real through the body without organs, that wrest from
the caos flux of intensity exposed to the world through art. It is the artist himself while thing, immersed in the
unlimited, from there to update the invisible, the artwork. Art is the language of sensations: “Painting is living
a second childhoood”.

He learned Ikebana’s floral technique to enrich the esthetics of this gastronomies criations. He was interested
in the traditional chinese medicine after he found out that his way of cooking was the same pattern that was
used by the oriental method of dietary, in this matter he graduated in acupuncture and shiatsu therapy.
In this multiple universe, northern always by hand making work, Pablo Slawinski developed his unique way
of paiting: “I started painting on my cooking” In 2004, he started his artistic process and today with a lot of
power, he devotes to his fine art work, having a maximum in all of this work “the art as an expressive form
of the last and absolute difference.” His work are guided by the new and creation of pure essencial signals,
signals that do not represent, do not individualize, do not have any significant nor meaning. They are pure
sensations and state of being. To Pablo, Art is the language of sensations and paiting is poetry without words.

Ceasing to use canvas as a support, Roberto Lacerda instead presents his rice paper paintings open to readings
from both front and back. In all its planes, this construction has a studied ambivalence, possible only for someone who – like its creator – has mastered even the most secure media. In an artist whose painting was austerely
Zen, highly rigorous and refined, these procedures imposed a need for a nonlinear reading of the current series.
Right from the early days when he was still working with an airbrush and Indian ink, attracted by the
imponderable treatments that the Eastern artists have long offered to our perception with their non colors and
their quasi-tones, Roberto Lacerda worked not just at the mimetic level (which would mean an extremely
shallow and gratuitous plastic belles-lettrisme) but rather endows them with the most legitimate appropriation,
assigning them personal marks, discoveries and re-elaborations. Let us take an example: spreading the paint
over the front of the paper results in an indirect impregnation on the back, which is one of the most fascinating
chapters of this construction.
On the one side, direct action, carefully thought- out and undertaken by the painter, who highlights and
resolves the new deadlocks and dilemmas offered by the support, the instruments and the matter to be added,
suppressed or lightened. All belonging to a logic that is specific to painting and has changed little in the course
of its history, this implies a prior empirical and cognitive existence, meaning that the artist draws – from his
professional memory and his theoretical expertise – data such as the length of time required by each solvent,
the compatibilities and rejections among colors etc. This making of the painting is the outcome of feelings
corrected by rules, as stipulated by the classical premise. Now, the colors that soaked through to the back
through capillarity – no more than waste for a less experienced and less skilled palette, a residue of the treatment supplied to the other side – constitutes a highly difficult area, almost at the level of the unacceptable.
Based on the casual nature of its basic coloration, this offers the painter a seemingly insurmountable problem:
reconciling the plastic situation that he may have produced with a desire for chromatic and compositional
arrangement.
On the front, the artist works from nothing, which is why he can do anything. Here on the back, he must start
out from chaos – and it would be expected that he could not do very much. And he will not be able to do so
because lightening some touch of color or highlighting another would threaten an undesirable intervention on
the other side. It is with the lightest of delicate veils, through fragile swathes of color, in a writing where the
quasi-imperceptible plays a leading role, that Roberto Lacerda arranges the chaos of this matter that soaks
through the paper after being applied to the other side. His records here are an exercise in lightness, attained
so flawlessly that the eye does not detect the slightest misstep. Picasso is his predecessor in this experiment:
back in the mid-­1950s, he worked on both sides of the canvas through a procedure conceptualized specially
for the splendid documentary by Clouzot (Le Mystère Picasso, 1956).
I do not believe that any other attempt has been recorded to paint on both side of a specific permeable support,
other than as a sporadic eccentricity by some artist or another.
Looking at these rice papers that Roberto paints on both sides, we undeniably have an original work of art.
Produced with such mastery of his métier, he endows each of them with an independent reading, while at the
same time ensuring seamless integration with the object as a whole. Serving an art with no errors or esthetic
slips, the ancillary procedures are part of the work, providing the foundations for our eye to travel towards the
legibility of greater coherence. Nothing in this universe of visual contrasts veers away from the concept that it
is the core of the work, served equally by its more striking aspects as well as its delicacies, although the latter
are in fact no less striking.

Helsinki valittiin vuoden 2012 designpääkaupungiksi (World Design Capital, WDC) vuonna 2009
yhdessä Espoon, Vantaan, Kauniaisten ja Lahden kanssa. Nimitys on ainutlaatuinen, sillä se
painottaa designin merkitystä kaupunkiympäristölle, kaupungin asukkaille, kuin myös sen taloudelle.
Nimitys jaetaan joka toinen vuosi ja sen myöntää teollisen muotoilun maailmanjärjestö Icsid
(International Council of Societies of Industrial Design) Aikaisemmat kaupungit olivat Torino 2008
ja Soul 2010. Vuoden 2014 designpääkaupunki on Kapkaupunki. Suomessa designpääkaupungin
toiminnasta vastasi Kansainvälinen designsäätiö.
Designpääkaupunkivuoden tavoitteena oli kaupunkilaisten arjen ja elinympäristön parantaminen,
julkisten palvelujen ja yritysten toiminnan kehittäminen designin avulla sekä kestävän designin
tukeminen ja edistäminen. Hankkeen vaikutusten toivotaan ulottuvan pitkälle tulevaisuuteen.

Leandro Figueiredo was born an artist, immersed in art.His father was a musician, his godmother an artist; by
the age of 7 he was already displaying talent in his weekly piano lessons that led him to appreciate music as
a hobby.A hobby that is still very much present in his life today, when this Paulista with a soul of a Carioca
decides to trade in a day at the beach, in Barra da Tijuca, the neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro where he lives
with his wife and son who turned 4 years in August 2012 for a jam session battery that lasts two to three hours.
In parallel to this musical universe, Leandro attained his Degree in Design from PUC-RJ in 1998.
On 2009 Helsinki was selected as the World Design Capital (WDC) for the year of 2012 together with
the cities of Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen and Lahti. The honor of being selected as the WDC is one of a
kind since it puts an emphasis on the meaning of design for the city surroundings and for the citizens
but also for its economy. The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) selects
the World Design Capital every second year. Torino was the WDC of 2008 and Soul was selected to
carry the name of WDC for the year of 2010. The Design Capital for 2014 will be Cape Town. The
International Design Foundation was in charge of implementing the Design Capital year in Finland.
The aim of the Design Capital year was to improve the everyday life of the citizens and their environments, to develop public services and entrepreneurships with the help of design, and to support and
promote the sustainable design. The influence of the initiative was hoped to reach far into the future.
This was the creative side of a boy who drew caricatures of friends and created fictional characters during
class and was suddenly forced to choose a profession.In 2000, while working as a graphic and digital designer,
Leandro decided to open a design company with a focus on the world of web. He continues to be a partner of
the company to this day.But it wasn’t until his father fell seriously ill and Leandro had to take time off from
work to help, that he realized the importance of investing his time in what he loved the most: Art. Since a
young age, Leandro, the messy kid from a building in Laranjeiras that was always being scolded for his art,
turned into a sensitive, creative, good humored man recognized and praised for his art.In 2011, the year he
discovered painting on canvas, Leandro adopted into his technique the use of contrast between shadows and
traces in Black and White, done in graphite pencil, dry pastels and bold acrylic oil colors.
Often, white, as the absence of color, can be found in his works.The simple and expressive traits of the characters
and shapes appear embedded in commonplace situations. And, according to the author, are intended to
stimulate laughter and the desire of the observer to create his own story. “Art told through the eyes of the
beholder,” he adds.
On day 19, 20 and 21 October 2012, four of his works were exhibited at Contemporary Art Fair in Carroussel
du Louvre in Paris and 28th to December 2nd 2012, two of his works will be exhibited in the Brick Lane
Gallery in London.

BELA Biennial. As a part of the Biennial AVA Galleria

exhibition by Kristiina Lampinen and Hannu Riikonen at
the Gallery do Palacio. Besides Lampinen and Riikonen,
Viva Grandlund had her performance at the Gallery do

Kulttuuritapahtumien kehittäjänä AVA Galleria tähtää markkinoimaan taiteilijoita kansainvälisillä taidekentillä antamalla heille mahdollisuuden osallistua
näyttelyihin ympäri maailmaa.
Vuosi 2013 on omistettu Brasilialle Portugalissa, johon AVA Galleria ottaa osaa
järjestämällä näyttelyn “Brazil - Art in Movement” yhteistyössä Portugalissa,
Cascaisissa sijaitsevan Rodyner Gallerian kanssa.
Galleria Rodyner on osa 1600-luvulla rakennettua palatsia, Casa da Guiaa.
Palatsilta on hienot näkymät Cascaisin rannikolle ja se on kauniin luonnon,
muotoilun ja laadukkaiden ravintoloiden ympäröimä. Tässä tunnelmallisessa
ilmapiirissä AVA Galleria esittelee yli 50 teosta, kolmelta- kymmeneltä brasilialaiselta taiteilijalta.

AVA Galleria, which has been developing over the last years several
cultural activities, aims to promote the artists internationally by giving
to them the opportunity to participate in international exhibitions in
different places around the world.
2013 is the year of Brazil in Portugal. AVA Galleria takes part in this
celebration, organizing the exhibition Brazil - Art in Movement, in
collaboration with Rodyner Gallery, at Casa da Guia, in Cascais - Portugal.

I was born in Nanuque, but I’m living in Mato Grosso since 1967. I’m a self taught artist; I began my artistic
life in 1986. When I arrived in Mato Grosso there were few roads, made with axe in hands. I faced malaria,
lived in a ranch, cooked for many workers on a wood-burning stove, washed clothes in the river, and spent
all day long riding a horse to reach my ranch. My paintings express my life story of struggle. Some of these
artworks were shown in my last exhibition, called “Leaven and Time”, held in SESC Cuiaba Arsenal’s gallery
in 2012.
Sou mineira de Nanuque, radicada em Mato Grosso desde 1967, artista autodidata, comecei minha vida artística
1986. Cheguei em um Mato Grosso sem estradas, as que tinham eram feitas a machado, enfrentei malárias,
morei em rancho de chão, cozinhei para muitos peões em fogão de lenha, lavei roupa no rio, andava um dia
a cavalo para chegar até o meu rancho. Retrato em minhas telas a história de luta da minha vida. Obras que
fizeram parte de minha ultima exposição na Galeria do SESC Arsenal Cuiabá em 2012 que teve o nome
“O Fermento e o Tempo”.
In the artworks shown in Cascais and New York I portray my father, and the marriage of my sister Ruth. As it
is the story of my life, I couldn’t forget the people who were part of it. Mr. Altino was illiterate and I made him
literate. He sewed clothes with the same fabric (called “chita”) for all the family, so everybody was dressed
alike. On Saturday he used to come with all the family to give to me plenty of things. My life, “Leaven and
Time”, was like this.
Nas obras enviadas retrato meu pai, e o casamento de minha irmã Ruth, sendo a história de minha vida não
podia, portanto, esquecer-me das pessoas que fizeram parte dessa história, senhor Altino era analfabeto e eu o
alfabetizei, ele costurava pra toda a família, comprava um fardo de chita e se vestiam todos iguais. No sábado
vinha ele com toda família me trazer todo tipo de fartura. Assim foi minha vida “O Fermento e o Tempo”.

Transdisciplinarity - the exchange between different disciplines that are part of the nature and of the imaginary of
man, also understood as the union of everything we do in a unification between the abstract and the visible. Flow
and move in several areas of architecture, urbanism, painting and printmaking. In the construction of the composition, the errors are not ignored but seized and taken as part of the art work. The Mutt series is inspired by my
observation of gestures and expressions of stray dogs, seized by a perception of the urban environment, and that
this animals constitute an important part of everyday life, especially within large cities throughout the world. From
photos taken in various cities where I have been, these works are developed in painting, engraving and photoengraving. I am a Master in Management of Urban Space and Culture by FAU/UFF-RJ. I have taken free training
courses in painting and drawing at Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage (EAV). I was born on January 29, 1957,
in Rio de Janeiro, where I still live and work.
Transdisciplinaridade - intercâmbio entre diferentes disciplinas que faz parte da natureza e imaginário do homem,
também entendido como união de tudo o que fazemos numa unificação entre o abstrato e o visível. Fluir e transitar em várias áreas, da arquitetura- urbanismo, pintura e gravura. Na construção da composição, os erros não são
ignorados e sim apreendidos e retomados como parte do trabalho. A série Cachorro Vira-Lata é inspirada na observação dos gestos e expressões de cachorro de rua, apreendido por uma percepção do meio urbano, e dos quais
este animais se constituem como parte importante da vida cotidiana, principalmente dentro das grandes cidades
pelo mundo a fora. A partir de fotos tiradas em várias cidades, os trabalhos são desenvolvidos em pintura, gravura
e fotogravura. Ana Prado é Mestre em Gestão do Espaço Urbano e Cultura FAU/UFF – RJ e com formação livre
em pintura e desenho na Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage (RJ). Nasceu em 29 de Janeiro de 1957 no Rio de
Janeiro, cidade onde vive e trabalha.
Ana Prado graduated in Architecture and Urbanism (1982), has a Master’s degree in Management of Urban Space
and Culture by UFF-RJ (2006) and free training courses in painting and drawing at Parque Lage (1990 to 1993).
In 2008, she started her activities with printmaking in Studio Dezenove (RJ). Since then, she has participated in

(Barcelo’s Rooster) this drawing shows a rooster painted in
red watercolor and crosshatched in china ink, which creates
volume and the illusion of strength. Its open beak shows the
power of his singing – an important part of the legend.
Inspirado na história do na história do “Galo de Barcelos”,
nesta obra o personagem o galo aparece forte, com o peito
pintado em aquarela vermelha e os tracejado em nanquim
dando volume e força assim como o bico bastante aberto
mostra a força do seu canto, que na lenda foi imprescindível
para salvar a vida do réu.

A tribute to Franz March and also a new point of view of his art. This whole piece was initially painted in
multicolors, giving texture to its fur and also creating the lights that shine from him, in ocher, yellow, white,
green and also light gray. Its technical precision gives the viewer the vivid impression of seeing a peaceful,
resting animal that quietly sleeps.
A obra é uma homenagem ao pintor Franz March por tanto uma releitura.Toda a obra foi inicialmente pintada
em multicores fazendo a textura do pelo, bem como as luzes que dele rebrilham em tons de ocre, amarelo,
branco e verde puxando em alguns momentos para o cinza suave. Seguindo o rigor técnico o quadro foi em
seguida, não imediatamente, desenhado todo em hachuras de 0,1mm e 0,2mm. sendo a coleira do animal
trabalhada em achura de 0,3mm, em superposição em três sentidos o que da a ela volume e relevo.
Pela precisão técnica, desenho apurado, e a leve sombra contornando parte do corpo do animal, tem-se a nítida
impressão que o cão está dormindo em absoluto repouso.

A cor Rosa é o ponto de partida para a nova coleção da artista plástica
Karla Bratfisch. Sem se prender a qualquer movimento ou estilo artístico,
a nova série da artista pode ser definida como uma explosão de cores e
liberdade de traços e formas. A artista, que trabalha com seus próprios
conceitos, intuição e sentimentos, intriga as pessoas que entram em contato com suas obras. Seu estilo de arte e expressão permite que cada pessoa que veja, tenha sua própria definição de seu trabalho. Além dos tons
de Rosa, a série é uma união que combina os elementos do cotidiano da artista, que se torna parte de cada tela. Transformando tudo o que vê e sente
em traços, cores e formas curiosas. “O meu dia-a-dia é minha principal
referência nessa série. É minha interpretação de tudo que vejo, de como
minha mente funciona enquanto estou pintando” explica a jovem artista.
Karla Bratfisch desenvolveu 9 coleções em sua carreira – Woodstock,
Caos e Cores, Nonsense, Devaneios, Aquarelas, Restricted, Traços Soltos
e a última, denominada Pink. Produziu mais de 70 telas e participou de
mais de 50 exposições ao redor do mundo. “Meu desejo é pintar para sempre. Não me vejo fazendo nada, além disso. Quero poder fazer isso sem ter
que ponderar meu tempo, dinheiro ou idade”, ressalta Karla.
Besides the shades of Pink, this series it’s a union that join the artist’s
elements of her daily life, which becomes a part of all these paintings.
Changing everything she sees and feels in traces, crazy shapes and unique
combination of colors. “My daily life it’s my number one reference in this
series. It’s my own vision of everything that I see, it’s just how my mind
works while I’m painting” explains the young artist.
Karla Bratfisch has developed 9 series of paintings in her career – Woodstock, Chaos and Colors, Pop Art, Nonsense, Watercolors, Daydreams,
Lost of Traces and the last one, Pink. She has produced more than 70
paintings and participated in more than 50 exhibitions all over the world.
“My desire is to paint forever; I don’t see myself doing nothing but this.
I wanna do this without having to consider time, money or age” says Karla.

The artist Carmen Thompson was born in Minas Gerais – Brazil. By the time she was 10 she was already
living in Rio De Janeiro and had started her classical ballet studies, becoming a contemporary dancer later on.
As a visual artist, she investigates a variety of materials for the production of masks, sculptures, paintings and
watercolours; Her drawings have a specific space, rhythm and time. Since 2008, she has experimented with
etching, where she interferes subtly in the process of printing and through the use of colour, in search for an
alchemic opulence. She states: “I have chosen the printmaking technique because its own essence can translate
a magical atmosphere. through the coats of etching grounds over the metal plate, dosing the amount of acid
over the unprotected parts of the surface, and the image starts to appear…”The artist arms herself with her
dancing experience to carry out her art works. “She opens the eye to possibility, unique and unexpected, at the
same time continuous like a movement and poetic like a drawing”
A artista Carmen Thompson nasceu no Brasil, em Minas Gerais. Aos 10 anos já morava no Rio de Janeiro, quando inicia sua carreira artística como bailarina, na qual revela uma forte marca expressionista.
Como artista plástica ela investiga uma variedade de materiais para a produção de máscaras, esculturas,
pinturas, aquarelas. Seus desenhos têm um espaço, rítmo e tempo específicos. Desde 2008, ela desenvolve pesquisas com gravuras, onde interfere com sutileza no processo de gravação e no uso das cores,
buscando uma riqueza alquímica. É ela quem afirma: “lancei mão da gravura já que, por sua própria essência, ela pode traduzir um clima mágico. Através dos banhos do breu sobre a chapa, da dosagem do
ácido sobre a superfície do metal que não está protegida pelo verniz, a imagem vem surgindo ...” a artista lança mão de sua experiência na dança para realizar seus trabalhos em artes plásticas. “o seu fazer
persegue uma nova possibilidade para o olhar, única e inesperada, ao mesmo tempo incessante como
o movimento e poética como o desenho”.

Cris Motta is a contemporary Brazilian painter who has lived in the south of France since 2007. Her artistic
steps started early in her youth, back in her small hometown in Brazil. She took classes with local artists before
going to college and majoring in Fine Arts from one of her country’s best universities, UNICAMP. Since then,
Cris Motta has visited many countries, being able to experiment and absorb some of the culture and art of each
place. She then mixes all of it in a way that what comes out on her canvas are lines, colors and textures that
could come from anywhere in the world, with global – yet intimate – brushstrokes. Stateless, but authentic.
Her paintings always bring a main character who talks to the viewers, questioning them about human relationships. The main themes of the oeuvres are women, passion and artists - dancers, musicians, clowns – everyday
life inspirations and characters of her own history.
Cris Motta é uma artista contemporânea que trabalha a pintura. Brasileira, vive no sul da França desde 2007.
Ainda criança em sua cidade natal já fazia aulas com artistas locais, muito antes de ingressar no curso de Artes Plásticas da Universidade Estadual de Campinas, uma das mais conceituadas instituições do país. Desde
então, Cris Motta viajou por vários países, podendo absorver um pouco da cultura e das histórias de cada local. Toda essa bagagem chega na tela em linhas, cores e texturas que poderiam ter vindo de qualquer lugar do
mundo; em uma pincelada global, porém intimista. Telas apátridas, porém autênticas. Seus quadros possuem
sempre um personagem principal que questiona os expectadores, principalmente sobre as relações humanas.
Os temas de suas pinturas são as mulheres, a paixão e os artistas: dançarinos, músicos, palhaços; inspirações
de seu cotidiano e personagens de sua própria história.

Ecila Huste, born and resident in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has been painting since 1981.
Her art education comes from School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage, Museum of Modern
Art and Center for Contemporary Art, in Rio de Janeiro.
Ecila Huste, artista plástica nascida e residente no Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, atua no campo
das artes plásticas desde 1981. Sua formação passa pela Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque
Lage, Museu de Arte Moderna e Centro de Arte Contemporânea, no Rio de Janeiro.
Her work has been shown in many group and solo exhibitions in Brazil and abroad. Last
exhibition abroad was at Galeria do Palacio, Porto, Portugal at the Biennial of European
and Latin American Contemporary Art (2012).
Seu trabalho tem sido mostrado em muitas exposições em grupo e individuais no Brasil
e no exterior, sendo a última na Galeria do Palácio, Porto, Portugal, na Bienal Européia e
Latinoamericana de Arte Contemporânea.
In her work the colours interweave all throughout the extension of the canvas as in a web.
As she says “There are moments in my working process when I have the sensation that
the brush, the canvas, the medium I use, myself and the space which surrounds us are just
one thing.”
No seu trabalho as cores se entrelaçam o tempo todo, como uma teia, por toda a extensão
da tela. Conforme suas palavras “Há momentos no meu processo de trabalho em que a
sensação que tenho é que o pincel, a tela, as tintas, eu e o espaço quenos envolve somos
uma coisa só”.
The final work is almost always profuse in colour, has a continuous motion, making it
difficult for the eye to know where each colour starts or ends.
O trabalho final é quase sempre exuberante em cor e tem um grau de movimentação
incessante, por onde o olho corre sem nunca pousar, incapaz de descobrir onde cada cor
começa ou termina.

genetic characteristics. My proposal consists in human relations, and a rescue of these forms
as ambiguous where my lines are placed at the service of the creation of these forms, and when

Tamion’s œuvre is based in non-conventional materials and in a mix
of techniques, like painting, collage and wood. He can achieve a very
rich scale of textures and tonalities through handling and processing
many paper layers, not only with paint itself. His thematic field is
based on archaeological concepts: pieces of cultures, totems, pottery,
objects and symbols that bring together the history of civilizations.
The concept of recycling is one of the foundations of his work. He
uses leftovers of woodwork (one of Tamion’s crafts), shells of wood,
newspaper collage, magazine’s paper and others materials. This
fusion takes his work to an archaeological place, characterized by
a continuous process of rescue of technical and artistic features of
humankind.
Ocupando-se de fundamentos abstratos calcados no materismo, Tamion cria suas
obras a partir de uma composição de técnicas mistas que envolvem o uso de
elementos naturais, sobras de marcenaria, papéis e outros adereços. Com o uso de
pouca tinta, a riqueza de texturas e tonalidades de suas telas é obtida a partir da
colagem e do tratamento dos papéis em diversas camadas.
Seu campo temático gira em torno de conceitos arqueológicos: fragmentos de
culturas, tótens, cerâmicas, objetos e símbolos que guardam em si histórias de
civilizações. A fusão de conceitos e materiais encaminha sua obra para uma
situação arqueológica, materializada num processo contínuo de resgate de
mensagens tecnológicas e artísticas da humanidade.

Rare or even a few, are the artists that nowadays uses encaustic as a paintings process, which had its splendor
in ancient Greece. It is noteworthy that the word itself comes from the Greek classic and means melt or paint
with fire. The Brazilian artist Vera Pavanelli uses modern electric instruments an beeswax and devote her
surveys to reactivate and promote the rebirth of this technique that allows artists to rediscover the refined
effects of this painting technique and prove the endurance of this works.

The use of elements that indirectly or directly interconnect the water and its semantic charge reveals the
restless spirit who is in constant search of new, extraordinary. The enchantment that provides photographic
eye, creates something new and imperceptible to the eye distracted by the multiplicity of information. At the
meeting with the ceramic, plastic, moldable, and organic, the artist is attracted by the tridimensionality that is

Cesar Coelho Gomes (Rio de Janeiro – 1949) Creative Director at SwainS, an accessories brand from Rio de
Janeiro, his researches explore techniques in leather tanning, arts and architecture. From this dialogue between
Arts and Fashion, he creates collections inspired in great names from the Art World, like Piet Mondrian, Joan
Miró, Van Gogh, Lucien Freud, and his most recent adventure: Rothko meets Xingu. One of his creations from
the Mondrian Collection, the “Mondrian” purse, is part of the permanent collection of the Costume Wing at
the Museu Histórico Nacional in Rio de Janeiro. As a painter, his recent works are strongly connected to the
human figure, treated in a very strong personal way, where the “fleshy”oil brush strokes are his moto. When
working on landscapes, he behaves the same, searching what is beyond immediate reality. He calls himself a
“creator of possibilities” in fashion and art, exploring the contemporary poetics of these creative processes.

Ricardo Franco studied fine arts at the Catholic University at age 26 and as an early entrepreneur founded the
Graal Comunicação, a very active and award-winning publicity agency at the Bahia/Brazil market. Ricardo
has been working in the field of food, products and services and as a designer he is a member of Icograda
and ADG. Recently his works were selected for the International Design Year- book. Photography is another
passion and a way to Ricardo express his creative side, using a variety of compositions that will be compiled
into a book that is in printing process. His artist vein was rescued in 2009, when he got time to combine his
professional schedule with his passion for art. Since then, he is developing projects that make use of various
techniques such as finger paints, oil and acrylic, among others. He participated and won various art fairs. In
2011 he participated in five exhibitions in Salvador, three in Rio de Janeiro and has international exhibitions
scheduled for Barcelona, France and Bratislava, capital of Slovakia. In his resume he holds titles such as
Doctorate Honoris Causa and commendation medals such as the recently received Jean-Baptiste Debret medal
at OAB Niterói.

The universe of the earth is a central concern of the artist Camilla Nascimento. She has respect and love for
the material with she chooses to develop his creative process. This affection helps to work with the shades of
the earth and offers a reverence that lead us to think about her material. The use of natural elements, such as
stones, shells and leaves, assigns each new job an existential considerable force, even more when she uses
her hands in the process of spreading this land, treating it as it deserves and exploring its dimensions. In this
homage to Jorge Amado, her work makes a link between what is hidden and submerged in the dust and what is
visible in places even inaccessible. Camilla takes the land as the paradigm of her creative process and, in her
experimentation, a certain dose of charming enigma is very important.

At the Scool of Industrial Arts Iria Čiekča Schmidt studied anthropology under Helinä Rautavaara, one of Finlands foremost anthropologists. These studies became decisive in the development of Čiekča Schmidt´s artistic practice. And during a period of participating in a shamanist group in the Netherlands, she reevaluated also
her Sámi roots. Sámi mythology alongside with nature religions and shamanism now became central themes
in her art. A residency in 2004 at Villa Karo, a Finnish-African cultural centre in Benin acquainted her with the
local voodoo culture, from which she made connections with her own Sámi background.
Painting was the initial medium of expression for Iria Čiekča Schmidt. But during later years she has articulated her artistic practice through other media such as different graphic techniques, photography and installations. During the last 10 years I have photographed voodoo rituals, sessions and festivals in Africa. I fell in
love with Africa, the energy and warmth of people wich will remain in my heart forever.

feelings of the human being and other objects are images of the basic necessities of life. As a child, I have
been living in Canada. My both grandfathers and great-grandfathers with their family have been living years

I realize paintings in which cheerful colours, combined with expressive Strokes of the brush,
create the feeling. My works alternate between the representational and the abstract, and in
them the colours and the light create spirituality. My motifs spring from the inner feelings in
my soul, in which nature is behind everything. I put my thoughts daily into the drawings in
my sketchbook, but these pictures do not, however, come out as such in the final paintings.
My paintings come into being spontaneously, straight onto the canvas, freely, as if guided by
someone. Thus,I believe, I can transfer something from myself and my soul into my works.

From Chaotic Everyday Live To Order
I paint in layers combining acrylic and oil colors. I start my working process by doing the background with
action painting technique to generate ripe, lively abstraction, where the momentary comes out. The colours
will run and spread free. Flowing water and acrylic color form a variety of splotches, puddles and splashes to
the painted layer. On this layer I continue with oil color slowly and attentively. The most central topics for my
paintings have for long been people, particularly man. I have recently used both pictures of people in internet
as well as a live model.
I have combined, in the very same painting, abstract backgrounds bodies and faces. My work is spontaneous
and I hardly ever make drafts, but the pictures are created during the painting process. I want to keep my
painting process as free as possible and thus involve the element of surprise in it. Irrespective of the way I work,
my intention is to make light and airy looking colored surfaces.In my work I strive for finding my way above
this chaotic everyday life towards order. My pictures bring together the scattered consciousness of human
being - my paintings are also mysteries to myself. If one likes to regard my paintings as stories, they are like
little stories: dreams, memories, scattered experiences of the life I have lived.

elements is most essential. A painting is not a riddle the spectator should solve. The really important things are
mental images and positive feelings.
While painting I am thinking how dimensions composition and colours are working together. Another aspect
is the feeling inspired by the picture. At its best various aspects create together an impressive entirety.
I think that art should bring forth mental satisfaction and give strength to survive in the busy and heartless
present-day world. Art should give you a restful pause. In my art I am looking for strength of light harmony

I was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1967. I worked as a medical doctor before studying art. In 1995 after bone
marrow transplantation treatment for cancer I began to focus more and more on art. I studied art at Helsinki
Fine Arts Academy 2001-2008. I was influenced by modeling human figure and plastic anatomy studies.
It turned my expression towards more traditional means of representation like lifesize human figures. In my
art tradition and modernity are drawn together. I often use my own body in my sculptures and installations
consentrating on structural fragility of human body, emotions and culture. I use black humour and sympathy
coping with everyday trauma of mortality. In recent years I have studied movement of the human body
influenced by photos of Muyenbridge, paintings of Francis Bacon and Helen Shjerfbeck and 3D computer
graphics.

Arte Vida Arte koostuu suomalaisista taiteilijoista. Sen tavoitteena on edistää Brasilian ja Suomen välistä
kulttuurivaihtoa, tutustuttaa kahdesta hyvin erilaisesta kulttuurista lähtöisin olevia taiteilijoita, olla lähtölaukauksena suurempimuotoisille kulttuuritapahtumille niin Brasiliassa, kuin Suomessakin sekä pitää käynnissä
brasilialaisten, köyhistä oloista lähtöisin olevien lasten avustaminen taiteen avulla (Taidekoulu CASA).

Arte Vida Arte accociation, consisting of Finnish artists, aims to initiate, promote and expand the cultural
exchange between Brazil and Finland and also introduce artists from two very different cultures and to be the
initiator for larger-scale cultural events in both Brazil and Finland. The accociation also aims to keep supporting the Brazilian children living in povery through art (Art school CASA).

Arte Vida Arte L’association art vie art est composée d’artistes finlandais, elle vise a initier, promouvoir et
développer l’échange culturel entre le Brésil et la Finlande et aussi présenter des artistes de deux cultures très
différentes et d’être l’initiateur pour la mise en œuvre d’ événements culturels a grande échelle à la fois au
Brésil et en Finlande. L’association vise également à continuer à soutenir les enfants brésiliens vivant dans des
conditions précaires à travers l’art (école d’art CASA).

CASA, THE ART SCHOOL FOR UNPRIVILEGED CHILDREN
Taidekoulu CASA (Centro de Assistencia Social e Artistica) aloitti toimintansa Rio de Janeirossa Cidade
de Deus nimisellä köyhälistöalueella elokuussa 2005. Sen perusti galleristipariskunta Helena ja Edson Cardoso. Koulun tavoitteena on luoda uskoa ja auttaa lapsia toteuttamaan unelmansa paremmasta tulevaisuudesta
taiteen voimalla ja auttaa hyvin erilaisten ongelmien kanssa kamppailevia lapsia taideterapian avulla. Koulu
toimii vapaaehtoisvoimin. Sitä vetävät riolainen taideterapeutti Glória Chan ja riolainen taiteilija Ney. Uutena
ohjaajana koulussa on Gabriel Delfino Marques joka vetää draamatunteja. Tunneilla käytetään brasilialaisen
tutkijan Augusto Boalin kehittämiä teatterimenetelmiä.
Art school CASA (Centro de Assistencia Social e Artistica) was founded in August 2005 in Cidade de Deus,
Rio de Janeiro. School’s aim is to create trust, help children with their dreams of a better future with the power
of art and help children in a wide range of problems through art therapy.In 2005 Helena ja Edson Cardoso
funded CASA - an art school for children in the slums (favela) of Cidade de Deus - City of God, in Rio de
Janeiro. The art school gives twenty children and their families hope and security for the future. Although it’s
like a drop in the ocean, it’s an important drop. The school gives children a hobby and a direction in their life.
Taidekoulu antaa toivoa ja elämänuskoa muutamille kymmenille köyhyydessä ja kurjuudessa eläville lapsille,
sekä heidän perheilleen. Vaikka se on kuin pisara meressä, se on tärkeä pisara. Se pyrkii antamaan lapsille
hyvän harrastuksen ja uuden suunnan elämässä. Halukkaita lapsia olisi tulossa taidekouluun enemmänkin,
mutta pienten resurssien takia lasten määrää ei voida toistaiseksi kasvattaa.
Toivomme, että työllämme pystymme ennaltaehkäisemään lapsien joutumisen kadulle. Suomalainen yhdistys
Arte Vida Arte ry tukee taidekoulun toimintaa. Yhdistyksen järjestämien taidenäyttelyjen yhteydessä suomalaiset taiteilijat ovat jo useana vuonna vierailleet Cidade de Deus:ssa ja työskennelleet lasten parissa. Sinäkin
voit osallistua taidekoulun toiminnan tukemiseen ja siten mahdollistaa lapsille paremman tulevaisuuden.

The director of CASA is a psychologist, art- therapist and artist Glória Chan. She runs the school with the help
of two local artists. At the moment there is 15 children in the school, by the age 4-15 but alot more would like
to participate.
The families of the children recieve monthly food suplies and in the future CASA wants to support the parents
with their problems as well. We hope that with our work we can save these children from ending up on the
streets. The Finnish organisation Arte Vida Arte ry funds The Art School CASA. The Finnish artits from our
organisation have visited Cidade de Deus and worked with the children for last three years. You can also be a
part or this valuable project and this way give the kids a better future.

AVA Galleria sijaitsee keskeisellä paikalla Helsingissä.
Tennispalatsin takana oleva Galleria tuo esille suomalaistaiteilijoiden näyttelyjen lisäksi ulkomaisten taiteilijoiden
näyttelyjä. Lisäksi Gallerian omistajat Helena ja Edson Cardoso vievät suomalaista taidetta ulkomaille. Seitsemän toimintavuoden aikana he ovat vieneet suomalaistaidetta Brasiliaan, Italiaan, Ranskaan, Espanjaan, Portugaliin, Ruotsiin,
Japaniin sekä Saksaan. AVA Galleria toimii yhteistyössä
Arte Vida Arte ry:n kanssa ja tukee toiminnallaan Rio de
Janei-rossa olevaa taidekoulu Casaa.
AVA Gallery
AVA Gallery is situated in a central spot in Helsinki,behind
Tennispalatsi. AVA shows exhibitions of Finnish as well as
of foreign artists. At the same time, the gallerists Helena
and Edson Cardoso bring Finnish art abroad. In seven years
of work, the Cardosos exported Finnish art to Brazil, Italy,
France, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Japan and Germany. AVA
Gallery works together with Arte Vida Arte ry and supports
the work of the Art School Casa located in Rio de Janeiro.
