RESUMO Este estudo buscou identificar o conhecimento dos professores do ensino fundamental e dos agentes comunitários de saúde sobre saúde bucal, entendida como parte fundamental da saúde geral, bem como, contribuir para o aprimoramento destas informações através de um material pedagógico de auxílio a esses profissionais, preparado a partir das opiniões e sugestões dos participantes. Foram entrevistados 154 professores do ensino fundamental e 96 Agentes Comunitários de Saúde do Programa Saúde da Família (PSF) e Programa de Agente Comunitário de Saúde (PACS) do Município de Valença/RJ, através de estudo qualitativo, exploratório e descritivo, a partir de entrevistas semi­estruturadas. A entrevista foi dividida em duas fases. Na primeira fase da análise foi levantada a necessidade da elaboração de um material didático com informações básicas sobre saúde bucal. Na segunda fase foi apresentado aos profissionais um croqui deste material com base nos resultados obtidos: tanto os ACS quanto os professores do ensino fundamental consideraram por unanimidade (100%) que este material seria uma excelente ferramenta didática, porque “esclarece dúvidas e possibilita melhor entendimento do assunto”. ABSTRACT This research study is to identify the teachers´ knowledge of the fundamental teaching and of the Health community agents on buccal health known as a fundamental part of the general health, as well as, to contribute with the improvement of this information through a pedagogical material as aid for these professionals, beginning with the opinion of the participants' suggestions. 154 teachers of the fundamental teaching and 96 health community agents from the Family Health program (PSF) and community agent's of the health program (PACS) of the municipal district of Valença/RJ were interviewed through the qualitative study, exploratory and descriptive, starting from semi­structured interviews. The interview was divided in two phases. The first phase of the analysis was brought to attention the necessity of having a proposal of a didactic material with basic information about buccal health. In the second phase it was presented to the professionals as information booklet that demonstrated that the material is of great use for these professionals through the obtained results.
