This new, interdisciplinary program addresses technological and policy issues that arise when designing, developing, regulating, implementing and managing networked infrastructures. Although the initial emphasis is on the Energy and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) fields, the broad range of problems to be tackled includes: // Policy and Risk-Related Studies // New Technological Paradigms // Security and Privacy Policy // Electricity Infrastructure // Smart Grids and Electric Vehicles // Energy and Environment Policy // Net Neutrality // Spectrum Management Policy // The Internet of Things // Social Networks and Productivity Combining science, engineering, risk analysis, decision theory and social sciences, the program focuses on techniques, methods and tools for evaluating the impact of public policies in social, cultural and economic terms. A comprehensive set of courses offered by FEUP, other faculties of the University of Porto and by Carnegie Mellon University will allow students to tailor a significant part of the academic curriculum according to their interests and needs. R&D institutes associated with FEUP (like INESC Porto and Instituto de Telecomunicações) will contribute to the program as host institutions offering a rich research environment, technical expertise, industrial contacts and experience in public policy issues. The PDEPP of FEUP is also offered as a dual degree with Carnegie Mellon University (through the Carnegie Mellon|Portugal Program, funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia).
