CAMS
Cams are shaped pieces of metal or plastic fixed to, or part of, a rotating shaft. A ‘follower’ is held against the
cam, either by its own weight or by a spring. As the cam rotates, the follower moves. The way in which it
moves and the distance it moves depends on the shape of the cam. Rotary cams are the most common
type. They are used to change rotary motion into either reciprocating or oscillating motion
