The extremes we go to…
The right answers…
When it comes to industrial coatings, complexity
is commonplace. Every industry is seeking
answers to different questions – questions which
are long-standing or emerging, and questions
which reflect growing demands for performance
and sustainability.
…for unquestionable performance
As the ‘experts’ expert’ we pride ourselves on
providing you with solutions, based on years
of experience developing innovative products
for a wide range of industrial applications. At Dow
Maintenance & Protective Coatings, we leverage
the superiority of our coatings technology and
product expertise to bring you tailored formulations
and solutions.
Innovation on an industrial scale
Q.How can coatings with low to zero VOCs last longer and meet other
performance requirements?
Innovation at Dow Maintenance & Protective Coatings is concentrated in four
strategic areas:
Q.Does coating a bridge have to be a never ending job?
• Reduced environmental impact
• Enhancing durability
• Lowering system costs
• Enabling ‘smart’ coatings that respond to external stimuli
Q. How can oil and gas companies protect their equipment from the corrosive
effects of the searing desert heat and the depths of the ocean?
As part of the largest producer of raw materials for the coatings industry and
the number one global supplier in industrial and architectural binders, additives
and epoxy resins, Dow Maintenance & Protective Coatings is well positioned
to find the answers and deliver the solutions.
In essence, we’re the experts’ expert.
When we develop new products, by focusing on what matters to our customers,
we are able to deliver the right solution for your applications. And, because
innovation is not just confined to the lab, we are able to work with customers
to optimise both technology and processes.
COATING SOLUTIONS
It will soon be essential that all
formulators will need a water-based
coatings system to sell to their
customers. And because of our
resources and the time and energy
we have invested in this already,
we are ahead in that race. We have
worked with end-users extensively
to establish the standards for these
new coatings systems, and are
ready to share this insight and our
data with formulators. We know
that our products can meet the
new standards because the
standards were written with our
products in mind. We are truly
bringing something different to
the market.
Introducing the new OUDRA™ brand from Dow
Maintenance & Protective Coatings, a new approach
to industrial coatings that brings a specialty mindset
focused on unique performance benefits. Flexibility,
temperature ranges, durability, sustainability.
OUDRA™ takes infinite possibilities and makes
them a reality.
What’s in a Name?
It’s a long way from a raw material
to having that material working in
an actual real world system. It’s not
enough to ask customers to trust
us that it will work … that it’s the
best. We have taken the necessary
steps to prove that our solutions
work and remove those doubts.
OUDRA (pronounced “Oo-Drah”) is
fittingly derived from a combination of
the terms “Ouroboros,” a sign for infinity
in cultures throughout the world, and
“Durability,” the most desired property
in industrial coatings. The driver for the
name comes from you, our customers
around the globe, who told us that
you are looking for innovative coating
products that offer differentiated
performance and the ability to unleash
a nearly limitless range of possibilities.
You asked. We delivered.

Dow Maintenance &
Protective Coatings: Solving
Your Extreme Problems
Broad applications portfolio
Our business philosophy can be summed up
by a simple motto… “The extremes we go to.”
This statement captures the very essence of the
challenging markets we serve and the passionate
spirit of our people.
A Specialty Mindset
Collaborative Approach
Our business is ultimately about one
thing, protecting a wide range of
assets in some of the world’s harshest
conditions. And we must do so within
the reality of a host of conditions,
such as environmental regulations,
the economics of operating in a tough
global economy where service life of
an asset is more important than ever,
the challenges of oil and gas exploration
and production in deeper, hotter, and
more extreme environments, meeting
the growing demands of new
infrastructure in emerging economies
and aging infrastructure in developing
countries. Taming these conditions
requires thinking differently. It requires
extreme science, and a dedicated
team of people willing to go to the
extreme to meet customer needs.
Our people go the extra mile to learn,
problem solve and innovate. We work
seamlessly with both formation partners
and asset owners to tailor solutions
that meet specific operational needs.
Our customers benefit from integrated
teams of TS&D, commercial and R&D
experts that serve specific market
segments.
Deep Market Insight
Our experts have extensive knowledge
of end-use applications and trends in
the energy, infrastructure, petrochemical
/ manufacturing, industrial architecture,
and marine markets. Be it a pipeline,
oil platform, chemical processing plant,
bridge, windmill, or container, we know
the coating challenges unique to each
operating system. We are where you
are. Our in-region experts understand
the nuances of your situation and
your environments.
The biggest plus perhaps is
sustainability. Yes this is very
desirable. But customers and end
users also need to consider cost.
They are also searching for
performance advantages such as
less time in surface preparation and
reduced drying time. I am working
now on applications for the mining
industry to reduce processing time.
We are exploring together ways to
extend our solutions even further …
to perform in higher temperatures
and to dry in less time. We are
becoming their laboratory and
they are becoming our advanced
testing facility.
Backed by the Power
of Dow
Our experts have access to the
world-class scientific capabilities
and resources of The Dow Chemical
Company, including a broad
geographic reach in both developed
and emerging markets. Dow combines

Innovation Without Compromise
New demands are driving the need for higher
performing technologies that respect the
environment, perform in increasingly
demanding conditions and provide value.
Dow has great technology. We know
a lot about chemistry. Everybody
knows that. The market knows that
we have great research and
development centers. But when
customers find how much we have
invested in discovery … in knowing
about the market and their actual
needs they are sometimes surprised.
When we present to customers
we show the platform, explaining
the raw material we are offering in
great detail. But then the more
meaningful conversation begins …
about which hardener should be
used … what sort of pigments …
many questions about how our
solutions will work in their processes.
We know that what customers
need is data, and data calibrated
for local conditions and real
applications. We have created this
data within Dow and tailored it for
specific end uses. Our model has
challenges but it has been well
worth it.
In the world of protective coatings,
we believe innovation should be
inspired by these market drivers.
Balancing these factors can be
challenging, but Dow Maintenance &
Protective Coatings (M&PC) brings a
systems approach to the industry to
deliver comprehensive solutions that
hit the sweet spot where performance
meets the needs of environmental
compliance and value.

OUDRA™
Brand Products
In the last 18 months we have
worked very hard toward something
new … a new relationship with our
market. We have moved out of our
own space to work not only with
the formulator, but also all the other
decision makers in the value chain.
And to do this you have to have a
very, very aligned team and strong
teamwork. And I’m talking about
sales, and technical, and marketing
working together with a single
agenda. These efforts have enabled
us to build a very good relationship
with everyone from formulators to
end-users. We’ve come to a better
understanding of market dynamics
and unmet market needs. The result
is solutions for the real challenges of
today and the potential challenges
of tomorrow.

low viscosity and low surface tension.
The low surface tension explains why
this resin wets the surface better, gives
better adhesion and will have slightly
lower viscosity at any given filler
loading. The diluent increases potlife, flexibility (impact resistance) and
acid resistance but limits the solvent
resistance. D.E.R.™ 324 liquid epoxy
resin is prone to crystallisation.

The performance of D.E.R.™ 353 in
ambient cure formulations is similar to
those obtained when using D.E.R.™
324 liquid epoxy resin.
D.E.R.™ 358
D.E.R.™ 358 liquid epoxy resin,
modified with a di-functional reactive
diluent, gives improved reactivity as
well as solvent resistance.
Epoxy Novolac Resins
D.E.N.™ 425
This liquid epoxy novolac resin fills
the gap between bisphenol F epoxy
resins and viscous epoxy novolac
resins. Its multi-functionality (± 2.5)
produces a tightly cross-linked network,
yielding improved high temperature
performance and resistance against
various chemicals. Unlike other epoxy
novolac resins, this grade does not
necessarily require post-cure.
D.E.N.™ 431
D.E.N.™ 431 epoxy novolac resin
has multi-epoxy functionality (± 2.8)
which makes it useful in coatings.
D.E.N.™ 431 exhibit high chemical
resistance and excellent elevated
temperature performance.

of low viscosity and light colour for
use in coatings and adhesives. Like
D.E.R.™ 732P epoxy resin, a longer
chain version of D.E.R.™ 736P, this
product imparts flexibility, elongation
and improved impact resistance.
D.E.R.™ 736P liquid epoxy resin can
also serve as the basis for advanced
polymers for a variety of waterborne
and solvent-borne coatings.
