Resumos/Abstracts “Novo Orbe Serafico Basilico”: Frei Jaboatão’legacy for the Luso-brazilian History of Art of the XVI th. and XVII th. centuries Abstract The present article aims to approach the contributions of Franciscan Friar Antonio de Santa Maria Jaboatam´s (1695-1779) literary productions to Luso-brazilian Art History´s study. Jaboatam´s main work, “Novo Orbe Seráfico Brasílico” or “Crônica dos Frades Menores do Brasil”, obligatory reference regarding the Franciscan Order in Colonial Brazil, gathers information about almost all of Franciscan activities of that period which are valued due to reiteration of the Franciscan order´s primacy in comparison to the other religious orders that preached in Brazilian lands. Although committed with the registration of the Franciscan historiography and enterprises, the Friar was interested in other subjects related to artistic works of Franciscans in the country. In that way, his production has also turned to be a fundamental reference to the field of Art´s History, specifically to the study of Luso-brazilian Art History´s study.
