Of.Balance is an experimental work about the notion of dizziness,
the moment before falling, of the drop down. It is in that moment
that we precipitate over ourselves, a moment where we keep falling
and never hit the ground. The state of equilibrium in Of.Balance
relies on opposite pairs, velocity-prison, delicacy-harshness, warmcold.

dull working day he receives a fax from Teresa, his girlfriend, breaking up from their one year relation Jaime leaves the office reading
the fax, and only a few minutes latter he realises that Lisbon is not
having a normal rush hour…

André Carrilho
André Carrilho was born on July 26,
1974 in Lisbon, Portugal. Since 1992 he
has worked as a professional designer,
illustrator, cartoonist, animator and
caricaturist, collaborating with some
of the most important Portuguese
newspapers and magazines. He has
won several national and international
prizes and has shown his work in group
and solo exhibitions in Portugal, Spain,
Brazil, France and USA.
In 2002 he was awarded the Gold Award
for Illustrator’s Portfolio by the Society
for News Design (USA).
His most recent assignments include
illustrations for the New York Times,
Harper’s, the Independent on Sunday
and Vanity Fair.
In 2004 he teamed up with friend
programmer/Dj/musician Nuno Correia
to develop interactive/generative visuals
under the name Video Jack.

He initiated his professional activity as
an actor in 1996, at the Marionetas de
Lisboa with the play “El Cid”. In London,
he participated in the performance
named “Orange People” by Sandra
Kennedy, at London College of Fashion
Design and in the short film “Metric
Time” by Sven Bylender. He returns to
Marionetas de Lisboa where he worked
for three years.
Since 2003, he works as an actor in
several theatre groups, cinema and

After finishing his MA in Anthropology, Hugo spends his days giving his brain a rest from the endless reading of texts by unknown
authors.
His only company is Luisa, the cleaning lady, with whom he plays
cat and mouse.
To escape the sleep of reason – which creates monsters -, Hugo exercises his lyrical vein by writing, with his friend Manuel, songs about
their neighbourhood.
The quiet dilettantism of our protagonist is shaken by Catarina, a
young and beautiful translator who’s starting her professional life
as a freelancer.
Hugo is hooked and wavers. High above, a kestrel falcon hovers.
It’s not the only bird of prey that can do it.

Assis 2005: a troubadour walks the streets of St. Francis of Assisi
hometown, singing and playing the Song of Brother Sun or Song of
the Creatures, written by St. Francis back in the winter of 1224.
Woods of Umbria, 1212: during one preaching to the birds, St. Francis suddenly faints. Reanimated by St. Clare, the saint looks strange
and absent and he doesn’t remember anything.
When the night falls, the animals in the forest sing and praise Francis. But this love sung by the animals leads to a feeling of possession,
a desire of exclusivity usually known as jealousy.

In a far village somewhere in Timor Loro Sae’s mountains, a night
bright as day is the background of the fight between the forces of
Destruction and Love.
A vision of horror, rotten corpses, and a force that enchants and involves squeezes the soul of who is looking at it. This war agitates the
earth, exorcises the birds and brings down the Moon to the plane.

THE GIANT’S BRIDE
Nuno Amorim
Born in April, 1952. With his
background in architecture, worked
as an art director in FCB and Publicis
Advertising Agencies, moving
afterwards to RTP, Portuguese Public
Television, where he began as a
graphic designer, then a director and
was afterwords head of the graphic
department. There, he wrote and
directed several short animation films,
documentaries and cultural series, being
also responsible for a large part of the
motion graphics produced by RTP from
1985 to 1998.
In the meantime in 1991 he founded
with fellow animator and director Zepe
(José Pedro Cavalheiro) the animation,
motion graphics and documentary
production company Animais A.V.P.L.,
where he is currently a director and
producer.

Between 89 and 92 studied Art
Direction at the Escola Superior Teatro
e Cinema.
Creates the puppet troupe “O Homem,
a Fita Magnética e o Caracol” together
with Rita Tormenta. With this company
produces two plays: ’Os Pícnicos’ e
‘Analepses numa Tenda”.
He was invited by Expo 98 to produce
the design and supervise the technical
quality of the ambulant sculptures
‘Olharapos’.
Since 1988, participates in several
individual and collective exhibitions
of Art.

He studied at the Universidade Nova de

and three books (shortstories). This
year, he attended to the Cinema Course
organized by Calouste Gulbenkian
Foundation and the London Film
School. ‘A minha mãe é pianista’ (16mm,

He studied history and philosophy at the
university of Lisbon.
Lived in Paris in 1962 and in 63 in
London where he studied at the London
School of Film Technique.
He worked has a film critic between
1958 and 1970 for several portuguese
newspapers and magazines.
Brandos Costumes, his first feature film
participates in the Festival of Berlin,
in 1975.
In 1977, he was appointed President of
the Portuguese Institute for Cinema.
Between 1980 and 2002, he taught at the
Superior School of Theatre and Cinema
(ESTC).
In 1982, his feature film Gestos e
Fragmentos participates in the Festival
of Venice.
He is appointed director of programs
in the portuguese public TV network
(RTP) in 1985.

Years before she saw a man being swallowed by a wave, inside a
swimming pool.
With this event, time ceased to be linear, and in a split second her
family disappeared, leaving only behind the traces of their presence.
Through the window´s reflex she realises her face has changed - the
face is longer and the hair; she has memories inside her head, that
she doesn´t recognize.
In another time, she returns to that place to try to confirm her memory.

FLAD to study at the New York Film
Academy where she directs the short
film “No Standing Except Wind”.
Has worked in editing, production and
image for documentaries and short
films.
In 2005 directs the experimental fiction
short film, “Logro” (“Hoax”).

Sunny day in the outskirts of a small Portuguese city under a tree
and facing a road in a configuration of Da Vinci’s “Last Supper” this
dysfunctional family have lunch.
Domestic violence appears invisible to the group, and compassion
non existent.
Without apparent solutions, each character struggles with their
lunch and personal demons.

Aunt Linnea is 90 and lives isolated in her apartment. All contact
with the exterior world goes through the cell phone of her niece who
travels a lot. Aunt Linnea phones several times a day in order to talk
about central subjects in her life like: “All these things where do they
come from? Where is the Christmas star? When comes the pedicurist? How do I open the door? With the new intercommunication
system Aunt Linnea has to press the star on the telephone in order
to open the door, something that she has difficulties to remember.
“Press the Star, press the star” the niece screams in her cell phone
from all over the world.

Born in 1971.
He is a multimedia creator that has
a transversal work that expresses his
artistic unquietness. With a PHD in
Arts and New Technologies, he studied
Social Sciences, Journalism, Portuguese
and Classic Literatures, Plastic Arts,
Theatrical Direction and Choreographic
Creation. He won the 1st prize for
his text from the National Elections
Committee in 1996 and he also was
distinguished as the Young Creator in
1997 (in poetry). As a stage director
he presented at the Festival A8 2003
in Torres Vedras (Portugal) the show
“são_precisos_2_para_dançar_a_valsa”.
