The sand industry, primary resource to the production of concrete, had reached a dramatic level, endangering the beaches. This event caused a huge euphoria between the businessmen of Mauritania. A great number of trucks started to flow to the Nouakchott port, where many boats sail out to feed the tourist constructions in Cape Verde. The Cities and the Exchanges starts in Lisbon on a cargo ship. We will undertake an Atlantic route that re-enacts these daily travels, in order to account the physical and social transformations in the landscape that these exchanges produce. Migrants, Nomads and Foreigners are invited to take over the knowledge and materials which give them free access to the production of visual languages- in which they always participated as consumers, but have been always excluded as creators/artists. Through workshops and production courses of small budget documentaries and fiction films, NOMADLAB aims to facilitate the access to visual and cinematographic language. NOMADLAB aims to produce an eye on the world throughout social contexts close to the idea of trans-territorial. It proposes as a work theme the reality of not-belonging to a place. It insists on a discourse of diversity and multiplicity of looks- it resists to the discourse of integration. The extreme ambition of NOMADLAB resides in that, even with poor work conditions, it achieves the energy and effervescence of the periphery territories life. Each participant is challenged to find out in his or her present life similarities with his or her past life. The main objective is to develop a narrative regarding remains of events, places, objects and people. Memories which they would like to preserve, as a response against its own oblivion. It is not only a record of memories but also a transformation movement in between what was lived and what is remembered.
