Prof. Dr. Fr. Marcelo Fernandes de Aquino,
SJ, has been the President of Universidade
do Vale do Rio dos Sinos - UNISINOS since
1-2-2006 and tenured professor at this
University since 1998.
Holder of a BA in Philosophy by the
Aloisianum School of Philosophy (1972) and
one in Theology by the Pontifical Gregorian
University (1978), both in Italy, he
specialized in Philosophy at Hochschule Für
Philosophie
(1973),
Germany.
He
completed his Master’s (1979) and doctoral
(1983) degrees in Philosophy at the
Pontifical Gregorian University, where he
also earned a Master’s degree in Theology
(1983). He holds a post-doctoral degree in
Philosophy by the Boston College (1999), the US.
He is a member of the Scientif ic Board of the Portuguese Catholic University’s Portuguese
Magazine.
At UNISINOS, besides serving as Vice President from January 1, 2002 to
December 31, 2004, he has also been the Executive Coordinator for the
University’s Graduate Philosophy Program. He has been a guest professor at
the Boston College, in the US, and at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais,
besides president (1992-1998) of the Society of Jesus Higher Studies Center
(Centro de Estudos Superiores Companhia de Jesus) in Belo Horizonte, and
professor at the Cristo Rei School of Philosophy.
He has served as the 1st Vice President of the Rio Grande do Sul Community
Universities Consortium (Consórcio das Universidades Comunitárias Gaúchas –
COMUNG) since 9-5-08; Vice President of the Brazilian Catholic Education
Association (Associação Nacional de Educação Católica do Brasil – ANEC) since
12-12-08, Member of the Higher Council of the RS Quality Association
(Associação Qualidade RS), the RS Quality and Productivity Program
(Programa Gaúcho da Qualidade e Produtividade – PGQP) since 12-9-08; and
Member of the Steering Committee of Universia Brasil since 12-5-08.
