As you can notice, the sentences above and the poem have something in common. They are
all formed using two components: the verb HAVE (in the present tense), and the past participle form of a
verb. This verb tense is called PRESENT PERFECT. Note that the subject and auxiliary verb may be
contracted: "I have" becomes "I've", "She has" becomes "She's", and so on.
Look the table below.
By observing the table we notice that with a regular verb the past participle ends with -ED
(just like the simple past). Irregular verbs like eat have a special past participle form that you have to
learn. There are no real rules to form the past participle of irregular verbs but there are groups of verbs
that share the same characteristics when forming the present perfect.
