Technical and Scientific Director of the Environmental Monitoring and Research Center
of Vila do Conde (2007-2010). Board of Directors of CIIMAR and CIMAR-LA (Associate
Laboratory). Responsible in CIIMAR for the Science OutReach Area.
Organized more than 50 activities related to Environmental Education, among them 15
exhibitions, cycles of conferences, courses, field expeditions, workshops and
pedagogical materials.
Director of BBE – Group pf Blue Biotechnology and Ecotoxicology-- CIIMAR, formed
nowadays by 12 PhD, 10 PhD students and 4 MSc students among others. Supervised
22 PhD students, 8 of them already finished. Supervised 45 MSc students, 43 of them
already got the degree.
Attended nacional and international conferences with 79 oral presentations and 223
posters. Published 235 works, being 190 papers on international peer reviewed
journals, 7 papers in national journals, 5 book chapters, 23 conference proceedings
and several reports. I coordenate presently 3 research projects.
Organized or participated as a member of the scientific committee in 19 conferences.
Reviewed 300 scientific papers of SCI journals, being member of the Editorial Board of
3 journals, among them, Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, Marine Drugs and
Toxins. Invited to give 53 seminars/conferences, many of them of scientific out reach.
Member of the 37 PhD and 66 MSc evaluation committees.
Director of the MSc course on Environmental Contamination and Toxicology of Porto
University (2010-2014). Member of the scientific committee of the PhD courses on
Biology, Marine and Environmental Sciences of Porto University and Biology of Aveiro
University.
Since January 2013 I and the President of the Board of the Marine and Environmental
Research Center (CIIMAR – www.ciimar.up.pt), a research institution that comprises
more than 260 researchers, having research, technological transfers and science
outreach in marine and environmental sciences as the main activities.
Member of the European Marine Board since 2011.
