Works Supervision: GPO Ingeniería y Arquitectura (GPO Group) WE ARE GLOBAL THINKING AS LOCALS Since our 30th anniversary is just around the corner, we are proud of the transformation experienced by our company in the last few years and of the grounds set forth to become a global and benchmark engineering company for our clients. Brazil, North America and Spain have been three axles providing the backbone of GPO’s activities during 2014. We have increased our income and grown with major projects, such as the design of different stretches of the Highway 407 ETR in Canada, which is at the moment the world’s biggest infrastructure under concession, or the new Line 6 of São Paulo’s Metro in Brazil. The consolidation of these three markets, so important for our group, has been accompanied by a bet to continue growing in countries where transport infrastructure could be the driver of growth in the next few years, such as Colombia and Peru, and where GPO Group has presence already. 2014 has been a year of changes and new incorporations. We have modified our name to become GPO Group, encouraged by the company transformation that we have been undergoing in the last few years, creating or incorporating consulting, engineering and architecture companies, which act under different brands, depending on the country or area where they operate. Around midyear, we added the Spanish company Ingeniería de Transportes y Trenes (2IT) to our group. 2IT’s specialisation in railway consulting, beyond infrastructure design, has enabled us to take a leap in terms of quality and quantity within the area and will be essential in the years to come, since we are convinced that we can offer our clients a comprehensive service that covers the infrastructure’s whole life cycle. Our future rests on remaining close to our clients, continuing with our effort of the last few years to enlarge the company, and following the plan we have set to grow in new markets and sectors. We want to be global, thinking as locals. Alvaro Palao President 6. GPO Group | Annual Report 2014 GPO Group | Annual Report 2014 Xavier Montobbio CEO Ramón Rabell Vice President 7. B C TO BE | CORPORATE AREA Strategy and Operations M Corporate Area Strategy and Operations The year 2014 has entailed a step higher towards positioning GPO Group within the international scope and has been the year in which the group was restructured to meet the challenges awaiting in the future. The new structure is led by the GPO Group holding and encompasses each of the companies that, during the last few years, have joined the group either being set up or through acquisition. The consolidation of the brand GPO as a group of consulting companies related to transport, architecture, industry and environment allows us to unite teams that represent us in different countries. The incorporation of the company Ingeniería de Instalaciones y Trenes (2IT) to this new structure is, without a doubt, the Group’s most significant event in 2014. With a deeply consolidated international portfolio and a catalogue of railway services fully complementing our activities, 2IT has reinforced GPO’s core business within the transport consulting area. This new acquisition allows us to cover the integral life cycle of railway transport: not only do we participate in planning and designing the infrastructure, but we also provide consulting services in rolling stock, systems, commissioning of new lines, maintenance management, training operation personnel and auditing the safety of the different components. Apart from this activity, completely transverse to the rest of the group’s companies, 2IT has provided new geographical markets to operate, such as Argentina, Qatar or Turkey, where we have been working this year. Zaragoza Tram, Spain. Commissioning: 2iT (GPO Group) 18. GPO Group | Annual Report 2014 GPO Group | Annual Report 2014 19. B C TO BE | CORPORATE AREA Strategy and Operations M The year 2014 has also entailed the consolidation and growth of the group’s companies, mainly in South America. SISTRAN, Brazilian subsidiary based in Sao Paulo, has met its expansion goals in the country by opening new offices in Belem and Maceió, and has considerably increased its income, thus consolidating a stable portfolio in the transport and automotive sector. The group is specially proud of the R+D projects generated by SISTRAN, taking advantage of the possibilities new technologies offer, such as BIG DATA, to re-invent mobility studies related to collective transport and providing them with a power and reliability unthinkable with the use of traditional methodology. Corporate Area Strategy and Operations 20. GPO Group | Annual Report 2014 GPO Group | Annual Report 2014 GPO Colombia has been another of the group’s strong bets in 2014. The Colombian subsidiary has begun its second year of life with great strength, and we have achieved a stable structure composed by a solid and diverse portfolio of future projects. We have also taken advantage of the 2014 to continue planning the future of the group. Based on our strategic plan, we are after those markets we want to strengthen in 2015. In this regard, we continue betting for the American continent as the Group’s main driving force of growth, investing in countries where our presence is already significant, such as Brazil, Colombia or Peru, and expecting an important qualitative leap in an important market such as North America. 21. In July 2014, the two first lines were opened, which account for 81% of the planned network, with a total length of 12 km and 17 stations - stops, and an investment of over 600 million euros. 2iT Ingeniería has been the company selected to support the concessionaire throughout the start-up of the line, designed as light metro. This project has allowed us to open up most of the wide array of railway consulting services that 2IT has been rendering over the last few years, as compared to other start-ups in Spain, such as Seville metro and Saragossa and Jaen’s trams. Our services have encompassed aspects as diverse as inspection and handover of rolling stock, empty running tests, training of engine drivers and future trainers, start-up of control centre and training of their operators, design of protocols and Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) and maintenance documents, and depot management. All this is materialised by creating work teams at the client’s premises, present until the new infrastructure reached full operating capability. Upon completion of the whole network, scheduled by 2017, Málaga metro will be 14.8 km long, will have 23 stations and will cater to 20.7 million passengers per year. 38.
