Logan SYSTEM 840/840V
Dissolution with Automated Sample Collection using Peristaltic Pump
The Logan System U840 Automated Dissolution Peri-Pump Sampling System is a modularly designed
instrument for automated dissolution sampling. The integral UDT-804 Universal Dissolution Tester
can be configured with a drive system comprising of six, seven or eight sampling vessels and
spindles. It is used for dissolution testing of a variety of pharmaceutical products including tablets,
capsules, transdermal patches and membranes. The UDT-804 can be used in several configurations
that satisfy USP criteria, e.g. rotating baskets or paddles (USP Apparatus 1 and 2), paddles over
screens (USP Apparatus 5) or rotating cylinders for transdermal applications (USP Apparatus 6). The
UDT-804 is supplied with the built-in heater/circulator. The speed/temperature/sampling intervals
can be programmed from the control panel of the UDT-804 as well as remotely via the ADSC-M
software.
The Tablet Dropping Tray accessory automates the process of tablet dropping. It drops the tablets
simultaneously, thereby marking the beginning of each test with far greater precision than manual
techniques allow, making it easier to comply with USP requirements.
The temperature sensor measures and records the temperature of the water bath. Temperature
readings can be taken before, after, and periodically during a run to ensure compliance throughout
the test. Temperature readings are transmitted to the UDT-804 Universal Dissolution Tester, where
they are displayed on the front panel and on the PC. The automated sampling manifold can be
controlled to lower itself into the vessels for sampling at the selected height (500ml or 900 ml). The
time, speed and temperature will be recorded at the beginning of each test as well as when samples
are being taken. All data is transferred to the PC through an RS-232 communication port.
The System U840 is designed to save valuable time by delivering precise volumes automatically.
The SP-100 Peristaltic Pump module withdraws samples at each time interval. Individual samples
are dispensed simultaneously into collection tubes (model SCT-160) or vials (model SCT- 160V)
Sample Collector module. If required by the test protocol, diluents are added to the samples in the
collector and replacement media to the dissolution vessels. All modules are controlled by ADSC-P
software program running on an IBM- compatible PC using Windows 2000, NT or newerversion of
the Windows.
The ADSC-P software program permits quick and easy programming of all parameters and allows
the user total flexibility in the use of up to four systems simultaneously. Each system can be
programmed to control UDT-804 parameters, in addition to sampling time intervals and sample
volumes for sets of 6-8 samples. Peristaltic pump flushes out the sampling lines with diluent and/
or purges by air. The samples may also be filtered through a membrane or another filter. * Data
reports are saved upon completion of each run. These contain information on system ID, method
and sample data, as well as UDT-804 temperature and speed for each sample point.
