Famous Brazilian Research Paper – Pelé
Pietro Barroero (´17)
Pelé is a famous Brazilian person because he was one of the best soccer
players of the world.
Born on October 23, 1940, in Três Corações, Brazil, Edison Arantes do
Nascimento is a soccer legend better known as Pelé, now a retired soccer player. He
was raised in a very poor family; Edison's dad was called Dondinho and his mother
was called Celeste. Dondinho, a soccer player too, was a striker who wore the number
9 jersey and played for the Bauru Athletic Club in 1946.
Pelé was voted Football Player of the Century by the International Federation of
Football History and Statistics. In the same year French weekly magazine France
Football consulted their former Ballon D'Or winners to elect the Football Player of the
Century. Pelé came in first place. During his playing days Pelé was, for a period, the
best paid athlete in the world. According to the International Federation of Football
History, he is the most successful league goal scorer in the world, with 541 league
goals.
He is regarded by many experts, players, as the best player of all time. Simply,
he was, and for many people still is, the greatest soccer player of the world. Not a
single thing was impossible for him: he won three World Cups with the National Team
of Brazil. He scored more than 1.200 goals during his long career. It’s not for chance
that in the Sixties he was nick-named "O Rei"; which in Portuguese means The King.
I do not think that he could be comparable with an American athlete because
there aren’t many soccer players in the United States but if I had to compare Pelé with
someone… I would say the British player David Beckham because he is very good too,
not only with his feet but with his mind too.
I really admire him because I think he is the best soccer player in history and he
is different if related to many others good players that think they are the best in the
world and so on. He also owns a fundraising foundation (like David Beckham, that I
admire very much too.) that helps poor children and families. I believe he does that
because he was very poor as a kid; he knows how bad it feels and he doesn’t want
anybody to be like that.
That is the famous Brazilian person that I chose, .A man that realized his childhood’s
dream, and fought really hard for that. Edison Arantes do Nascimento or simply Pelé;
the best soccer player ever.

Simply he was, and for many people still is, the greatest football player of the world.
Not a single thing was impossible for him: he won three World Cup with his National
Team of Brazil (Sweden 1958, Chile 1962, Mexico 1970). He scored more than 1.200
goals during his long career (more than 1.300 official matches). He also won many
national Leagues and Continental Cup ("Copa Libertadores"), with his team, the Santos
Futebol Clube (of Brazilian 'São Paulo' State). In the Sixties he was nick-named "O
Rei" (The King) and in the Seventies 95 peoples out of 100 knew his name. ("Wow,
man, you're popular!" said Robert Redford, some years ago, after seeing Pelé give
dozens of autographs in New York while he was not asked for one). In the late 1960's,
when he and his team, Santos, went to Nigeria to play a few friendly matches, the
ongoing civil war stopped for the duration of his visit. He finished his career in the New
York Cosmos, in 1977. Now he is a United Nation's Ambassador and has been also
Minister for Sports in his country, but, for the people who saw him make magics with
his right foot, he is, now and forever, the biggest footballer in the world, and the one
and only "King".

apenas 17 anos.

Born Edson Arantes Do Nascimento (better known as Pelé) is known as a legend
and the best soccer player to ever play the game. He was raised in a very poor family
in Três Coraçõess, Brazil and his parents, Dondinho and Celeste Nascimento called
Edson "Dico," growing up.
He first learned the game of soccer from his father, Dondinho, who was a decent
center forward until his career was halted by a fractured leg.
Pelé began playing soccer for a local minor-league club when he was a teenager.
When he wasn't playing soccer he shined shoes for pennies. He was discovered at the
age of 11 by one of the country's premier players, Waldemar de Brito. When Brito
brought Pelé to São Paulo he declared to the disbelieving directors of the professional
team in Santos, "This boy will be the greatest soccer player in the world.”
