Vale (VALE5) is developing a new steel plant project in
Marabá. Its budget is around R$ 2,7 billion and will
generate 16 thousand jobs. The construction of such
company will allow Carajás to leave the sole-extractive
previous
model
and
to
verticalize
steel
production, adding value to local production and
increasing economic conditions in the region
Since the 80's Marabá experienced a big economic
growth, due to steel companies that established pig
iron facilities in the region
Current population is around 200.000 people, and it is
in consistent growth, mainly because of people coming
from other cities

Received 5 thousand new companies within one
year, besides 30 thousand new jobs.
Votorantim is building, at Porto Velho City, the
biggest cement factory in Brazil. This factory aims to
supply the power plants that are planned and/or
being built in the region.
Capital and the biggest city in state, Porto Velho has
today the biggest occupational rate of economically
active people in the north region (94,6%) and the
second lowest unemployment rate of Brazil.
A huge hydrolectric power plant complex about to be
built in Madeira River – 6,450 MW (it will be the third
biggest in the world) will bring enormous economic
growth to the region, and allow housing
opportunities. It is expected to generate 10,000
direct jobs and will carry a R$ 9.5 billion investment
