Synopsis
The documentary is about the artistic career of Edvaldo Souza, the Edy Star, a singer,
actor, dancer, theater producer and visual artist from Bahia.
The way to the fame was marked by his irreverence. From the encounter with Raul
Seixas, a mark was established in Brazilian music, the album “Sociedade da Grã-Ordem
Kavernista Apresenta Sessão das 10”, together with Sérgio Sampaio and Míriam
Batucada. Edy is the only one from the ‘kavernistas’ who is still alive. From the success
of the Teatro de Revista plays, the artist recorded with Som Livre the album “Sweety
Edy”, which is a mark in his career. In the vinyl record, there are songs solely composed
for him by renowned artists of Brazilian popular music, such as Roberto Carlos, Erasmo
Carlos, Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso.
Considered the first gay singer to assume his
sexuality, Edy’s life history is also the history of the
‘assembly’ of the sexuality in a country under
dictatorial regime. His career also coincides with the
boom of great musicians, singers and interpreters of
MPB. “Antes que me esqueçam, meu nome é Edy
Star” delivers a new critical look with Edy’s
characteristic humor on the underground
production of that time, through the life of excesses
and madness of its main character.
With a dose of boldness, the sound track based in
Edy Star’s music choices, mixes humor, rock, cabaret
and a lot of this ‘damned’ atmosphere, present in
his work, with the participation of Zeca Baleiro.
