Introduction 2.2 Sculptures weighing no more than 1,500 kg The Cascais Municipal Council and the technical expertise provided by the D. Luís I Foundation, is awarding the ArteMar Estoril 2014 Prize for sculpture where an exhibition will be held from 16 May to 15 June 2014. 2.3 T he artists may collect this material from the The Prize seeks to distinguish work which, apart from its undoubted aesthetic quality, is able to reflect environmental concerns that are now the order of the day and, owing to this fact, are part and parcel of the creative vision of many contemporary artists. The exhibits will be displayed along the Seaside Wall Cascais-Estoril. The area is a privileged leisure spot whose singular physical attributes will challenge any artist’s imagination. 2. Entry conditions 2.1 The contest is open to Portuguese and foreign artists where each artist may enter up to two pieces of sculpture. arte mar Estoril www.cm-cascais.pt may be entered. They may consist of any material although the entry condition is that they contain material/waste matter coming from the sea or symbolically representing the sea. sea shores themselves if they see fit. 2.4 Owing to the fact that the sculptures will be ex- hibited in the open air in a public place near of the sea, the artists should bear in mind the ease with which their work may be installed and taken down. Special care should be made so as not to endanger the public’s safety as people will be constantly circulating along the walkway. Furthermore, the sculptures should be able to withstand the local climatic conditions: sun, strong wind, rain and salty air. 2.5 During the exhibition, the artist must ensure the maintenance of the work, to prevent its degradation and ensure the public’s safety. Selection 4.1 It falls to the Organisation to choose which of the sculptures will enter the Contest. 4.2 Selecting the competing sculptures will be made on the basis of appraising the candidate’s dossier provided that it conforms to the previous number in the Rules. 4.3 The Organisation reserves the right to make whatever contact with the artists deemed necessary to assess their registration data more correctly. 4.4 The artists whose work has been chosen for the 5.2 There will be no appeal against the Jury’s decision which is final. 6. T ransporting, setting up and removing the sculptures 8.1 The artists will be responsible for transporting their work within the deadlines established hereinunder. 8.2 The artists whose work has been chosen to appear in the exhibition should (after being contacted by the Organisation) deliver and set up their sculptures at the site of the exhibition at the 14 and 15 May. 8.3 The work on display will be covered by an insurance policy taken out by the Organisation to the value indicated by the artist in the Registration form/Work and up to a limit of 8,000 euros and will cover the period between setting up the sculpture until its removal. 8.4 N o sculpture may be removed before the closing date of the exhibition. 8.5 The sculptures should be retrieved by their owners (or their lawful representatives) within a deadline of two working days after the exhibition has closed, on a date given by the Organisation, except for the prize-winning sculpture which the artist will donate to the Cascais Municipal Council. Once the deadline has expired, the organisation reserves the right to do what it will with any work that has not been removed. 8.6 A n exhibition catalogue will be published. In order to do this as well as publicise the event in any other way, the artists will hand over publishing rights to the organisation and /or the sponsors. The ‘Making-of’ descriptions written about the sculptures may be published in the catalogue mentioned above, together with pictures of the work in question. 9. Travel and accommodation 9.1 Any travelling and accommodation/living ex- penses accrued by the artists who have had their sculptures chosen for display will be their own responsibility. 10. Sale of the exhibits 10.1 Provided the artists agree, the sculptures being exhibited may be sold on the condition that the Organisation receives 15% of the selling price. 11.
