Review the specification for the second phase to meet
WIGOS/WIS requirements
The project started as a tool to control the status of
INMET´s observing network, including communication
links, installation and maintenance teams. The idea is to
include in phase II of the system additional specifications
to meet WMO developments and guidance, such us
standard catalog of products, availability of metadata to
server DAR requirements. New types of data will be
included in the data bank.

The main objectives of the project is to demonstrate the:
1) Effective use of the WIS standard forms for
exchange meteorological information.
2) Generation of products from data types of different
sources, with quality control and monitoring
capability.
3) Use of GIS interface.
The system was structured under the following
subsystems:
1) Recovery and Exchange Information System
- Data classification, using metadata, in order to
facilitate data recovery and exchange of
information between organizations through a
unique and consistent way.
- Establishment of a data catalogue from
information extracted out of the GTS traffic and
also from partner organizations or other centres.
- Provide a pilot project with two other Brazilian
organizations to demonstrate recovery of data
not collected by or existent at INMET.

2) Quality Control System on Product Generation
- Management of a Catalogue of products not
generated at INMET.
- Control and monitoring of the generation
process of routine products.
- Survey and planning of maintenance teams.
- Alerts and warnings based on the quality of the
data received.
- Preparation of the catalogue of products
available for visualization.
3) Web Portal
- Data Discovery mechanism to allow search,
visualization and download of data and
information.
- WebGIS interface with filters.
- User interface to allow selection of specific
products for customers.
The system is based on web technology with an open
source platform. It is planned to be multi-lingual
(Portuguese, English and Spanish). It will be integrated
with existent INMET Web Portal.
