Nowadays, and opposed to what happened in the past, a higher education course shouldn’t be seen as something that secures a job in its specific area, but as a set of knowledge, competences, values and attitudes that face the labour world, allowing for a better performance. It is important to understand the effort undertaken and the adjustments made by the higher education institutions in this field to pursue this goal. It is intended to present the case of Escola Superior de Turismo e Hotelaria, a higher education school of the Instituto Politécnico da Guarda, and the its courses.
