Anointing of the Sick
The church encourages all who are ill, about to undergo
surgery, or confined to their home due to illness to be
prayed over and anointed with sacred oil. This can take
place at a parish Mass, in the home or in the hospital.
Please do not wait for the last moment for yourself or a
loved one to be anointed and by all means speak to a
priest for more information or details.

Greetings,
“Since God has first loved us (cf. 1 John 4:10), love is now no longer a mere “command,” it is the response to the gift of love
with which God draws near to us. In a world where the name of God is sometimes associated with vengeance or even a duty
of hatred and violence, this message is both timely and significant. For this reason, I wish in my first Encyclical to speak of
the love which God lavishes upon us and which we in turn must share with others.”
Deus Caritas Est is essentially the meditation of Pope Benedict XVI on love -- love as it is (sometimes erroneously) considered to be by the world and love as expressed in all its richness in the biblical tradition, in the love of God for Israel and as it is
exemplified in the Eucharistic sacrifice of our Savior. The second part of the encyclical is an explication of how love is to be
embodied in our daily life as Christians, -- in our love of (and service to) our neighbor, and what that entails in light of our
faith. On the tables, at the doors of the church, you will find a pamphlet which contains a summary of the Holy Father’s, Pope
Benedict XVI, First Encyclical. I hope you will avail yourself of this pamphlet to better understand the richness of God’s love.

My mind is filled with thoughts of Palm/Passion Sunday and of Holy Week. This is such a perfect time to reflect on
the exceedingly generous love that God lavishes on us through the Passion of His Son. It is the perfect time to bring our
thanks to God especially through the Eucharistic celebrations, which are our perfect way to give thanks, and also the services
available to us for joining together in prayer. On Tuesday, April 11 at 11:00 am, Cardinal Seán O’Malley will be celebrating
the Chrism Mass at the Cathedral. It is a wonderful celebration as many of the laity and priests of the Archdiocese are present. It is at this Mass that the oils used at Baptisms, Confirmation, Anointings of the Sick and Ordinations are blessed and
consecrated. At the Mass all the priests also renew their ordination promises. As well all priests who have died during the
previous year are remembered. If you have the opportunity to go into Boston I encourage you to attend this Mass at 11:00 am
on Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. If you can’t get there it is also televised and will air at 11:00 on BCTV. The
services of the Triduum will all begin at 7:30 pm this year. On Holy Thursday we celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper.
Good Friday is the celebration of the Passion, the Veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion. As in the past we will be
proclaiming the Passion in Portuguese in the Church and English in the Chapel after which we will join together for the Veneration of the Cross and Communion. This is the only day of the year on which Mass is not celebrated. Technically it is not
celebrated on Holy Saturday either, as the celebration of the Vigil begins after sunset it is considered as belonging to the next
day. As in the past, we will continue the Community Good Friday Vigil and Prayer Service. We will meet at 11:45 in the
Hudson Catholic parking lot and process, with the cross leading our way, to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church for a noon prayer
service. Please join us, last year including myself there were only a handful of us from St. Michael. This is a wonderful way
of proclaiming the Good News of salvation as we walk publicly down the streets of Hudson with the Cross as our guide. The
Way of the Cross will be prayed at 3:00 p.m. Saturday evening is the celebration of the Mother of all Vigils, the Easter Vigil.
How awesome it is to enter the church in complete darkness except for the illumination of the Paschal Candle. As the Exsultet
is sung all in the congregation will have their candles lighted as we recall our Baptism into the death of Christ that we might
also rise with him in the Resurrection. It truly is a Sacred Time. The Easter Vigil will begin at 8:00 p.m. (Please note that
this is a different time than originally scheduled!) Please note that on Easter Sunday an additional Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon and that there is no Mass at 5:00 p.m. The rest of the schedule remains as usual, 7:30, 9:00 and 10:30
in English, 10:30 in Portuguese (in the Church) and 12:00 noon for the Brazilian community (in the chapel). For those unable
to be present for the Triduum services they will be televised on BCTV. Cardinal Seán O’Malley will celebrate the solemn
Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 8:00 p.m., coverage will begin at 7:30 p.m. Coverage of the services from the Cathedral of the
Holy Cross with Cardinal Sean O’Malley as the celebrant for the solemn Liturgy of Good Friday, including adoration of the
cross begins at 2:30pm. Solemn Liturgy of the Easter Vigil with Cardinal Sean O’Malley and the traditional blessing of fire
and water will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Santo Padre, Papa Benedito XVI. Espero que aproveite o conteúdo deste folheto para melhor compreender a riqueza do amor

O meu pensamento está repleto com os pensamentos do Domingo de Ramos/Paixão da Semana Santa..Esta altura é
perfeita para reflectir no amor excessivamente generoso que Deus espalha sobre nós através da Paixão do Seu Filho. Ė o
tempo ideal para agradecer a Deus, especialmente durante as celebrações Eucaristicas, que são a nossa maneira perfeita de
darmos graças, e, também, através dos serviços à nossa disposição para orarmos em conjunto. Na Terça-feira, 11 de Abril às
11:00 am, o Cardeal Seán O’Malley celebrará a Missa “Crism” na Cathedral. Ė uma celebração maravilhosa na medida em
que estão presentes leigos e padres da Arquidiocese. Ė nesta Missa que os óleos usados no Baptismo, Confirmação, Unção
dos Doentes e Ordenações são benzidos e consagrados. Na Missa todos os padres renovarão as promessas feitas na ordenação.
Serão relembrados todos os sacerdotes que morreram durante o ano anterior. Se tiver a oportunidade de ir a Boston encorajo-o
a assistir a esta Missa às 11 horas na Terça-feira na Catedral da Holy Cross. Se não poder estar presente pode vê-la na televisão, em directo, às 11horas no BCTV. Os serviços do Triduum (Tríduo Pascal) começam às 7:30 pm este ano. Na Quintafeira Santa celebramos a Missa da Ceia do Senhor. Na Sexta-feira Santa é a celebração da Paixão, Veneração da Cruz e a
Santa Comunhão. Tal como no passado proclamamos a Paixão em Português na Igreja e em Inglês na Capela após as quais nos
juntamos para a Veneração da Cruz e Comunhão. Este é o único dia do ano em que não se celebra Missa. Tècnicamente, também, não se celebra no Sábado Santo, desde que a Vigília começa depois do pôr do sol e é considerado pertencente ao dia seguinte. Tal como no passado, continuaremos a Comunidade da Vigília da Sexta-feira Santa e Serviço de Oração. Reunimo-nos
às 11:45am no parque de estacionamento do Hudson Católico e iremos em procissão, com a cruz à frente indicando o
caminho, para a Igreja Episcopal de St. Luke para a oração do Meio-dia. Junte-se a nós por favor, o ano passado, comigo incluído houve só uma mão cheia de gente de S. Miguel. Esta é uma maneira maravilhosa de proclamar as Boas Novas da salvação quando caminhamos pùblicamente nas ruas de Hudson com a Cruz a guiar-nos. A Via Sacra será rezada às 3:00 p.m. No
Sábado à noite é a celebração da Mãe de todas as Vigílias, a Vigília da Páscoa. Que tocante é entrar na Igreja completamente
às escuras, excepto pela iluminação da Vela Pascal. Ao mesmo tempo que o Exsultet é cantado, toda a congregação tem as
suas velas acesas para relembrarmos do nosso Baptismo para a morte de Cristo porque, provàvelmente vamos, também, elevarmo-nos com Ele na Ressurreição. Na verdade é um Tempo Sagrado. A Vigília Pascal começa às 8:00 p.m. (Por favor note
que o horário é diferente do que foi anunciado anteriormente!) Notam bem que no Domingo de Páscoa que haverá uma
Missa adicional ào meio-dia e que não haverá Missa às 5:00 da tarde. O reste do horário permanecerá do costume, 7:30,
9:00 e 10:30 em inglês, as 10:30 em Português e ao meio-dia para a Comunidade Brasileira (na capela). Para aqueles que não
lhes é possível estarem presentes nestes três dias dos serviços do Triduum, podem assistir através da televisão no BCTV. O
Cardeal Seán O’Malley celebrará a Missa solene da Ceia do Senhor às 8:00 p.m., o programa comecará às 7:30 p.m. A cobertura dos serviços da Catedral da Holly Cross com o Cardeal Seán O’Malley como celebrante da Liturgia solene da Sexta-feira
Santa, incluíndo a adoração da cruz começa às 2:30pm. A Liturgia Solene da Vigília Pascal com o Cardeal Seán O’Malley e a
benção tradicional do fogo e água começará às 7:30 p.m.

End of year - This week (Sunday, Apr 9th thru
Wednesday, Apr 12th) marks the final week of Religious Education classes for the year. Parents are reminded that Mass attendance, during months when we
do not have classes, is vital to the faith formation of
every child. We urge you to please continue to bring
the children to Mass every weekend.

classes da Educação Religiosa para este ano. Lembramos
os pais da necessidade de levarem os filhos à Missa,
durante os meses em que não há aulas porque é
essencial para a formação da fé de todas as crianças.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word will continue at the
9:00 am Mass on Sundays after classes end.
Confirmation Rehearsal is scheduled for Monday,
April 17th. All candidates, including Hudson Catholic
Students, are required to attend this rehearsal. Those
being confirmed on April 22nd at 1:00 pm will rehearse
from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on the 17th, the 4:00 pm confirmation group will rehearse from 3:30 - 5:30 pm on the 17th.

dia 17, mas das 3:30 - 5:30 pm.
The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered here at St. Michael’s Parish on Saturday, April
22nd. Since we are blessed with a large class of 89 candidates, there will be two ceremonies: one at 1:00 pm
and the other at 4:00 pm. Bishop Walter Edyvean our
regional bishop will preside. We ask all parishioners
to please keep these young people in your prayers as
the prepare to receive the strength of the Spirit.

First Communion - will be celebrated on four Sundays from April 30th thru May 21st at a special 12 noon
Mass. This year we there will be a total of 120 students
who will join us at the Eucharistic table. As each date
approaches, we will publish the list of names of our
First Communicants.
Primeira Comunhão – será celebrada nos quatro
First Communion Rehearsals - All students from the
grade two First Communion classes in the Religious
Education program will have a joint rehearsal on Sunday, April 23rd from 11:30 - 1:00 pm. (Grade two students from St. Michael’s school will hold their rehearsal during school hours.) Parents are asked to
mark their calendar with the date. A second rehearsal
will be offered on the Friday before each First Communion date, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.
