1st Call for Papers

The International Conference Literary Portugal is an international event that aims to reflect on
the relationship between literature and tourism. This conference, to be held at the Faculty of
Letters of Lisbon, on the 14th and 15th June 2016, is part of the set of activities undertaken by
the Project LIT & TOUR of the Centre for Comparative Studies of the Faculty of Letters of the
University of Lisbon and the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism, University of
Algarve, with the support of the Estoril School of Hospitality and Tourism.
The purpose of the conference is to provide an opportunity for researchers in literary studies
and in tourism studies, namely for those with interdisciplinary interests, to share the results of
their research and to promote academic reflection on the construction of a Literary Portugal.
The conference will be organized around the following themes:
I - Literature and tourism - conceptualization and trends (theoretical aspects of the research in
literature and tourism)
II – Space, place/literary territories - construction and communication (literary places, tourist
destinations, literary itineraries, urban and rural territories, topophilia, landscape, literature and
heritage ...)
III - Tourists, travellers and writers - motivations, experiences, impacts (travellers, tourists,
literary tourists, literary travelers, literary pilgrims, reader tourists and tourist readers, virtual
tourists, tourist literature and publics ...).

Researchers are invited to submit their manuscripts (in Portuguese, English or Spanish, between
5000 and 7000 words). Manuscripts will be anonymously evaluated by at least two reviewers.
The selected papers will be published in the Literary Portugal Volume. Authors cannot submit
more than two manuscripts/communications. Presentations will be 20 minutes long.
