X ANNUAL CICS –UBI SYMPOSIUM 2015
6th and 7th July
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Organizing and Scientific Committees are pleased to invite you to the X ANNUAL CICS-UBI
SYMPOSIUM 2015 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Health Sciences (Faculdade de Ciências da
Saúde; FCS).
The CICS-UBI annual Symposium intends to function as a forum to present, debate and share
research developments of the CICS-UBI groups and collaborators of health units associated with the
FCS.
The communication and publication of the research outputs is an essential component of the research
activities. Also, the cooperation and communication among the CICS-UBI members is another
important aspect to improve the efficiency of our research Centre. The symposium allows seniors’
and students’ presentations regarding the progress of their projects. We encourage all researchers
involved in the development of CICS-UBI research lines, as well as the health professionals at local
hospitals, to come for inspiration and exchange of ideas.
The present Symposium is also open to the academic community, particularly to students of the 1st,
2nd and 3th cycles of studies in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedicine,
Biotechnology, Medicine, Medicinal Chemistry, Optometry-Vision Sciences and Pharmaceutical
Sciences.
ABSTRACTS SUBMISSION
a) The abstracts must be written in English.
b) Abstract should include: Title, introduction, methods, results, conclusions, keywords (max 5) and if
applicable acknowledgements and references.
c) The authors must use the abstract template form of the Symposium to submit your
abstracts. The abstract is limited to one page of the available template.
d) The authors are completely responsible for the abstract content.
Abstracts should be sent to the secretariat by e-mail.

PRESENTATIONS, COMMUNICATIONS AND POSTERS
Four types of communications will be considered:

Senior - oral communications by PhD integrated members (15 min)
PhD – oral communications by PhD students (12 min)
MSc and undergraduate - oral communications by MSc and undergraduate students (7 min)
Poster – poster presentations by PhD (not considered for award), MSc or undergraduate
students
Preference for the type of presentation should be indicated in the submission by email.
Submitted abstracts and type of communication will be selected by the Scientific Committee. If
preferences for the type of communication could not be assured, participants will be informed no later
than 26th June.

The official languages at the symposium will be Portuguese and English. All presentations could be
in Portuguese or English (slides must be in English).
Slide presentations: All authors are required to deliver their communications during registration.
Posters: For printing at FCS facilities, all authors are required to send their posters until 2nd July 10:00
am to [email protected], indicating as subject Symposium 2015. Posters should be prepared
using the white CICS template and sent in pdf format. All posters should be posted on 6th July during
registration.
Prizes: Three prizes for CICS-UBI members will be awarded in the following categories:
a) PhD students oral communication;
b) MSc/undergraduate students oral communication;
c) MSc/undergraduate students poster presentation.
REGISTRATION
A certificate of attendance to the Symposium will be issued to registered participants.
1) Simple registration is 5 € and includes abstracts book, certificate and coffee/tea breaks.
2) Complete registration is 15 € and includes abstracts book, certificate, coffee/tea breaks and dinner.
