PONTIFÍCIA UNIVERSIDADE CATÓLICA DO RIO GRANDE DO SUL FACULDADE DE LETRAS PROGRAMA DE PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO EM LETRAS DUO VII Dialogue Under Occupation PPGL in Dialogue – 45 Years – 28th- 30th of October, 2015 Auditorium, building 9 – PUCRS 1st Call In the year that the Programme of Post-Graduation in Letters (PPGL) commemorates its 45th anniversary, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), by way of PPGL, will host DUO VII (Dialogue Under Occupation International), an itinerant and interdisciplinary event, between the 28th and 30th of October, 2015. The event has already been hosted in Chicago (USA), Abu Dis (Jerusalem), Bogota (Colombia), Washington DC (USA), Okinawa (Japan), and Beirut (Lebanon). The main goal of DUO VII is to create a privileged space of discussion between students and researchers, both from Brazil and abroad, in the areas of linguistics, literature, creative writing, and areas such as philosophy, sociology, education, communication, psychology, etc., to interchange experiences about relevant and current studies of “dialogue”, contemplating three broad themes: Dialogue in Perspective, Intercultural Dilemmas, and Expressions of Conflict. THEMES Focus on dialogue, among three main themes: (a) Dialogue in Perspective: Research that deals with dialogue from different perspectives will be considered, coming from the academic production of various areas of expertise, including linguistics, literature, creative writing, as well as social and human sciences, and areas, such as philosophy, sociology, communication, education, psychology, anthropology etc. (b) Intercultural Dilemmas: Discussions about the complex outlook of problems faced in a contemporary, intercultural world, advancing the debate about discursive, social, and cultural aspects involved in this outlook on conflict. Within this theme, the following will be considered: theories and practices about different symbolic and discursive universes that involve the tense contacts between cultures, taking into account shocks of social, ideological, and political values. In the study of intercultural dilemmas, investigations of linguistics, literature, and creative writing will also be included, as well as social and human sciences including the aforementioned disciplines, as long as they are about the following themes: multiculturalism and transculturalism, multilingualism, cultural hybridity, culture shock, generations, beliefs and values, cultural relativism and universalism, orientalism and occidentalism, media appeals, materialism and humanism, modernity and postmodernity, individualism and community, collective agency and epistemic disagreement, among others. (c) Expressions of Conflict: Deals with the discussion of possible theoretical and practical ways of discussing different social situations of confrontation, disagreement or frustration, present in the following areas: linguistics, literature and creative writing, as well as social and human Av. It’s based on the idea that “conflict” is also an issue that opens spaces in which it allows dialogue in its various dimensions and language expressions. Guidelines to presentations: INDIVIDUAL PRESENTATION SESSIONS Each presentation should last 15 minutes, leaving another 5 minutes for discussion. Participants must be masters students, or with a completed masters, or PhD students, or with a completed PhD. The proposals must be related to the themes of the event. The Organisational Committee will designate a coordinator to each session of the presentations. GROUP PRESENTATION SESSIONS These sessions are characterised by gathering articulated work around one of the themes from the event. Number of participants per session: 4-6. One of the participants, with a title of PhD, will assume the functions of the coordinator of the session. The participants should preferentially be from different institutes. Organisation of the session: Each presenter will have 15-20 minutes for their research. The coordinator will have to organise the presentations and instigate the discussion. It is the responsibility of each of the coordinators to send the complete proposal to the DUO VII committee, including a proposal summary. INSTRUCTIONS ON SENDING THE PAPERS SUMMARY INDIVIDUAL PRESENTATION • The summary of the paper should be in Times New Roman, 12, single line spacing with a margin of 2,5cm, and must contain, at the most, 300 words. The title should be centred (capital letters and in bold font), name and surname should be aligned to the right and followed by an email address, and the institutions acronym in brackets. Three key words must be indicated at the end. • The summary must contain the goal, fundamental theory, methodology and possible results. • The summary must be sent to the site of the event along with the inscription, obeying the formatting rules.
