NOTICE OF RACE
The Nacra 17 South American Championship will be held at Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro – Brazil.
From Tuesday, 8th of December to Friday, 12th of December 2015.
The Organizing Authority is the ‘Confederação Brasileira de Vela’ and ‘Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro’ in
cooperation with the International Nacra17 Class Association.
1. RULES
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS). No National
Authority prescriptions will apply.
1.2 Any changes in the Notice of Race will be published at the website www.icrj.com.br.
1.3 The official language will be the Portuguese. In case of conflict of interpretation of languages in a
document, shall be valid to the original language version of the document.
2. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
2.1 Competitors and coaches shall enter by completing the form (Appendix A) and send by email to
[email protected] and paying the required fees. Entry opens on October 1st, 2015. Entry in the event is not
final until registration is completed. The request for entry shall be filled in and the entry fees shall be paid by
November 1st, 2015 at 2400 hours to get the advantage of the reduced entry fees (refer to 3.1). Entries sent
after the deadline indicated above, will be accepted with the required entry fees.
2.2 ISAF Eligibility shall apply. Each athlete shall be registered as an ISAF Sailor on the ISAF website:
www.sailing.org/isafsailor
2.3 All competitors shall be fully paid-up members of the International Nacra 17 Class Association.
2.4 Olympic gender requirements will apply. Only mixed teams are eligible to compete in mixed events.
Competitors under 18 years of age shall present a signed and completed parent (or guardian) consent and
declaration form at registration. The forms are available for download on the website

2.5 The regatta is open to the Mixed Two Person Multihull Nacra 17 chosen to compete in the 2016 Olympic
Sailing Competition.

3. FEES

4. FORMAT
4.1 The regatta will consist of a Fleet Racing Series, no medal race.
5. SCHEDULE
5.1 Registration for competitors, coaches and team leaders is scheduled at the registration office:




Saturday, December 5th from from 09:00h – 17:00h
Sunday, December 6th from 09:00h – 17:00h
Monday, December 7th, the Yacht Club Sail Office will be closed.
Tuesday, December 8th from 09:00h– 11:00h
5.2 The schedule of races including racing areas and dates of racing is as follows:





Tuesday – December 8th – 3 Races – Starting at 13:00h – Escola Naval
Wednesday – December 9th – 3 Races – Starting at 13:00h – Ponte
Thursday – December 10th – 3 Races – Starting at 13:00h – Ponte
Friday – December 11th – 3 Races – Starting at 13:00h – Escola Naval
Saturday – December 12th – Reserve day just will be used to validate the championship - TBA
5.4 On Friday, December 11th, no warning signal will be made after 17.00h
5.5 Prize Giving and Closing Ceremony with Pizza and Beer Party will be held on the Second floor of the Convés
Snack Bar at ICRJ, just after the last race of the regatta.
6. EQUIPMENT INSPECTION
6.1 Boats shall be available for inspection at Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro Boat Park from 09.00h Tuesday,
December 7th.
6.2 In accordance with Racing Rule 78, competitors are responsible for maintaining their boat in accordance
with the Class Rules (for the purpose of Racing Rule 78, competitors are considered to be the owners).
Boats may be subject to inspection(including total weighing) at any time during the event. The procedures for
inspections will be specified in the sailing instructions or equipment inspection regulations (EIR).
6.3 The equipment limitations as specified in the class rules shall apply.

7. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Sailing instructions will be available from December 6th at registration and at the event webpage. Other
documents governing the event will be published with the Sailing Instructions.
8. VENUE
8.1 The regatta will be at the Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro.

9. THE COURSES
The courses will be Windward/Leeward. Any other courses adopted by ISAF for the 2016 Olympic Sailing
Competition or approved by the International Nacra17 Association may also be used.
10. PENALTY SYSTEM
RRS 44.1 is changed, so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty.
11. INTERNATIONAL JURY
An International Jury will be appointed in accordance with RRS 91(b). Its decisions will be final as provided in
RRS 70.5.
12. SCORING
12.1 The Low Point System of RRS Appendix A will apply.
12.2 A boat’s race score shall be:


In each Series, a boat’s score shall be calculated in accordance with RRS A2;
When nine or more races have been completed, a boat’s score will be the total of her race scores,
excluding her worst score.
12.3 Nine races are required to constitute a regatta.
13. SUPPORT BOATS AND PERSONNEL
13.1 All support boats shall be registered with the Organizing Authority and will be required to comply with
local legislation and event support boat regulations. The Organizing Authority may refuse registrations and
accept later registrations at their sole discretion.

13.2 All support boats shall clearly display the 3 letter national code of their ISAF Member National Authority
at all times while afloat. The minimum height for the letters shall be 200 mm and visible from both sides of
the boat.
13.3 Support boats with team leaders, coaches and other support personnel shall stay outside areas where
boats are racing from the time of the starting sequence until all boats have finished or the race committee
signals a postponement, general recall or abandonment.
13.4 All coaches and team leaders shall present the coach boat insurance.
14. BERTHING
Boats shall be kept in their assigned places in the IATE CLUBE DO RIO DE JANEIRO Boat Park, all boats are free
of charge to use the ICRJ from 5th December to 13th of December. Support boats shall be kept in their assigned
places in the harbor.
15. SOCIAL EVENTS
The Social Event Program will be posted at the Notice Board.
16. RADIO COMMUNICATION
A boat shall neither make nor receive radio transmissions, text messages or cellular phone calls while racing
except in an emergency or when using equipment provided by the race committee.
17. PRIZES
17.1 Medals will be awarded to the top 3 boats general, and top 3 boats South American Team.
17.2 The title “Champion of South America Nacra 17 - 2015” will be awarded to the winner of the South
America fleet.
18. INSURANCE
Each participating crew shall present a valid insurance certificate showing proof of third-party liability
coverage of at least 1.500.000 Euros (or equivalent) per incident.
19. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS rule 4, Decision to Race. The
Organizing Authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in
conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
20. DOPING CONTROL
Doping control will be conducted in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code. In-Competition testing may
be carried out at the Venue.
21. MEDIA RIGHTS, CAMERAS AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT
21.1 By participating in the event, competitors automatically grant to the Organizing Authority, and their
sponsors, the right in perpetuity to make, use and show, from time to time at their discretion, any motion

pictures and live, taped or filmed television and other reproductions of the athlete during the period of the
competition without compensation.
21.2 Boats may be required to carry cameras, sound equipment and positioning equipment as specified by the
Organizing Authority.
21.3 The top three competitors as well as the individual race winners may be required to attend a media press
conference each day.
21.4 Competitors may be required for interviews at the regatta.
