Marinho Alves da Silva Filho graduated in Geology from the Federal University of
Pernambuco in 1967. He entered the Geological Survey of Brazil (CPRM) in 1969,
with which he stayed until December 2006 when he passed away, ten days after
finishing his doctoral thesis. He was a field geologist with major interest on structural
geology and tectonics.
