Há quatro anos, Nataly saiu de Chukotka, região
mais gelada da Rússia, para conhecer o Ceará.
Por insistência de amigos, a maquiadora no auge
dos seus 23 anos acabou fazendo um pit stop no
Rio, em pleno Carnaval... Hoje, moradora do Humaitá, se sente ‘a russa mais carioca que tem’. “O
Rio tem este estereótipo de cidade turística, mas
eu não acho. É uma cidade normal, comum. Na
Rússia, meus amigos perguntaram se eu tinha
escolhido o Rio por ser exótico. Exótico é Bali! O
Rio é uma cidade normal e encantadora. Não me
vejo morando em outro lugar.” De dia, essa loiraça russa com marra de carioca, gosta mesmo é
de uma pedalada pela Lagoa. Na calada da noite,
a moça costuma dar pinta na Comuna ou para
um showzinho, o Circo Voador.
Four years ago, Nataly came from Chukotka,
the coldest region in Russia, to visit Ceará. At
the insistence of friends, the 23 year old makeup
artist in her prime ended up making a pit stop
in Rio de Janeiro during Carnaval. Today, the
Humaitá resident feels she is ‘Russia’s most Carioca’. “Rio has this stereotype of being a tourist
city, but I disagree. It’s a typical, regular city. In
Russia, my friends asked me if I had chosen Rio
for being exotic. Bali is exotic! Rio is a regular
and charming city. I can’t see myself living anywhere else.” So, where can you find this beautiful
blonde Russian with a Carioca attitude? By day
she’s in Lagoa riding her bike. By night, she can
be found at Comuna or she can be at a concert
at Circo Voador.

São os 500 metros de praia
mais charmosos da cidade,
disso ninguém duvida
To say that this is the most charming
500 metre stretch of beach in the city is
something no-one would disagree with.
ARPOADOR INN – Hotelzinho com ares decadentes, que
vive lotado o ano todo. Possivelmente pela localização,
que é quase na areia.
AZUL MARINHO – É o restaurante/bar do hotel. Comida
e atendimento são ok, mas beber um vinho branco
geladinho sentado ali, a beira mar é sonho.
SAX DO JOEL – No Verão, em frente ao restaurante, quem
embala o fim de tarde é o músico Joel Ferreira. No sax,
um repertório que traz o fino da bossa e do jazz, para a
nossa alegria.
PARQUE GAROTA DE IPANEMA – Cortar caminho pelo parque
e direção à praia ajuda a gente a lembrar como uma
caminhada por ali é gostosa! Afinal, ter um parque com
direito a mirante, trilha e ainda nome de música-tema da
Bossa Nova não é pra qualquer cidade não, desculpa aí.
PRAIA DO DIABO – Pequeno pedaço de areia que já foi
paraíso dos cachorros, é palco de manobras radicais dos
surfistas mais fissurados. A arrebentação ali quebra forte
e um mergulho em dia de mar alto é só para os fortes.
PEDRA DO ARPOADOR – Camarote do famoso pôr-do-sol,
aqui a gente podia escrever “sem comentários”.
GALERIA RIVER – A história da River se confunde com a
história do surf carioca. Nesta galeria tem o que você
precisa se o assunto for surf, inline, skate, slackline, bike,
tattoo, tênis ou moda praia. Boteco limpinho, fast food
orgânico, açaí com granola e hamburgueria da moda:
você acha num rolé por ali. A River é um barato!
ARPOADOR INN – A small hotel with a decadent vibe that fills
up all year round. Quite possibly owing to its location which
is almost on the beach itself.

AZUL MARINHO – This is the bar/restaurant of the hotel. The
food and service are ok, but to drink an ice cold white wine
while sat by the shore is like a dream come true.

SAX DO JOEL – Throughout the summer, in front of the
restaurant, the musician Joel Ferreira gets the end of the
afternoon swinging with his sax repertoire that offers the
finest in bossa nova and jazz for our enjoyment.
PARQUE GAROTA DE IPANEMA – Cutting through the park
towards the beach reminds us to how great a stroll around
here can be! To have a park with a viewpoint, a trail and
even the name of the signature song of bossa nova, is not
just for any city, sorry!
PRAIA DO DIABO – A little piece of sand that used to be a
paradise for dogs is now the stage for the radical twists and
turns of the most hardcore of surfers. The surf here is strong
so a dip is only for the most able bodied.
PEDRA DO ARPOADOR – The V.I.P. Seat for the famous sunset,
for this we can simply write “beyond words”.
GALERIA RIVER – The history of River is intertwined with the
history of the Rio surf scene. In this shopping arcade you can
find everything you need connected to surfing, blading, skateboarding, slacklining, cycling, tattoo, footwear or beach
fashion. Bars, organic fast food, açaí with granola and trendy
hamburger joints: You find all of them here. River is the bomb!

THE DESTINATION
On the road up to the Serra dos Órgãos mountain range, this is an unmissable spot for
anyone who enjoys nature, trails and waterfalls. Guapimirim is a charming, hidden
away paradise, the kind of paradise that can result in love at first sight, with the risk of
an enduring love affair to follow. In the middle of all this natural beauty, the Serra dos
Órgãos national park provides useful facilities, with an area for camping, picnics and
bathrooms and of course the pools and waterfalls to escape the real world for a few
hours. If what you’re looking for is adventure, in the surrounds of Guapimirim there
are areas reserved for mountain biking, walking, climbing and rappelling, complete
with instructors as well as practicing sportsmen and women. If all you want is some
peace and quiet, some shade and fresh water, you can go here free in the knowledge
that paradise is not far away, only 1 hour from the centre of Rio.
POÇO VERDE – Rapids, waterfalls and small pools make up this area along the Soberbo
river, which isn’t called “Green Pool” for nothing. The area is a twenty minute walk
from the park’s visitor centre.
POÇO DO SOSSEGO – Decorated all around by bromelias and orchids, this pool is great
for anyone who just wants to chill out and listen only to the the noise of the flowing
water and bird song. Normally the pool has natural air conditioning as a result of the
plentiful number of trees and shade.
PEDRA DO SINO – This is the biggest climbing wall in the country and the weak definitely
don’t have any place here. To scale the mountain above, you need to gain prior permission from the park authorities by proving your experience and technical ability.
DEDO DE DEUS – A tough trek takes you to the top of this 1,700 metre tall peak. There
are two ways up and when it comes to choosing which one, ask the park rangers for a
recommendation. You can never be too prepared.
TRILHA DA CORUJA – The darling of the mountain bike crowd is a beautiful hike through
the forest that links Guapimirim and Santo Aleixo.
VÉU DA NOIVA WATERFALL– A fall 32 metres in height with pools of crystal-clear water,
situated around 20 minutes walk along the Trilha da Concórdia trail. This is one of
those places where you see nature sparkle before your very own eyes.

The journey to Guapimirim can be tackled by car, taking the BR116 (Rio-Terê) road
until just before you begin the climb up the mountains. Or you can take the bus which
leaves from Praça Mauá and from Central Station and is operated by Viação Reginas
(2671 1404 / 2633 2119). So, now let’s go and explore Guapimirim?

Na subida da Serra dos Órgãos, um pico imperdível para quem curte natureza, trilhas e
cachoeiras. Guapimirim é um paraíso escondido e encantador, do tipo paixão à primeira
vista, com risco de caso de amor duradouro. No meio de tanta beleza natural, o Parque
Nacional da Serra dos Órgãos oferece uma estrutura que pode ser útil, com área para
camping, piquenique e banheiros, além é claro, dos poços e cachoeiras para esquecer da vida
por algumas horas. Se a pegada for aventura, nas redondezas, rolam áreas reservadas para
mountain bike, caminhada, escalada e rapel, com instrutores e esportistas praticando. Se o
que você quer é sossego, sombra e água fresca, pode ir sem medo que o paraíso é logo ali, a
1 hora do centro do Rio.
POÇO VERDE – Corredeiras, cachoeiras e claro, pequenos poços compõem essa área ao
logo do Rio Soberbo, que acredite, não tem esse nome à tôa. Fica a 20 minutos de caminhada do Centro de Visitantes do Parque.
POÇO DO SOSSEGO – Enfeitado por bromélias e orquídeas em volta, este pico é pra quem
quer relaxar e ouvir apenas o barulho das águas e dos pássaros. Este poço costuma ser
um ar condicionado natural, graças a grande quantidade de árvores e sombra.
PEDRA DO SINO – Maior paredão de escalada do país, onde os fracos definitivamente não
têm vez. Para seguir montanha acima, é preciso ter autorização da direção do Parque,
comprovando experiência e conhecimento técnico.
DEDO DE DEUs –Uma caminhada puxada te leva ao topo de um pico de quase 1.700 m
de altitude. São duas opções para subida e na hora de escolher qual fazer, peça uma
sugestão dos monitores do Parque. Orientação nunca é demais.
TRILHA DA CORUJA – Queridinha da galera do Mountain Bike, é uma caminhada bonita
pela floresta que liga Guapimirim a Santo Aleixo.
CACHOEIRA VÉU DA NOIVA –Uma queda de 32 metros de altura com poços de água
cristalina, a uns 20 minutos de caminhada pela Trilha da Concórdia. É daqueles lugares
de natureza bombando diante dos olhos.
O caminho das pedras pode ser feito de carro, pela BR116 (Rio-Teresópolis) antes da subida
da serra ou de ônibus que saem da Praca Mauá e da Central. Viação Reginas: 2671 1404 /

facilitate the lives of those who have
difficulties getting around, we have have
compiled a mini-guide of places and
cool suggestions using information from
Luana, an out-going 29 year old carioca
wheelchair user, who writes about the

The people at Adapt Surf have been
bringing together volunteers and people with reduced mobility since 2007
through weekend sport and leisure workshops. On Saturdays in Barra (lifeguard
“posto” 2) and on Sundays in Leblon
(posto 11), the group have a gareat time,
catch a few waves and enjoy the beach
while taking part in activities which
make the most of the fresh air. To know

If it wasn’t for the step between the
lounge and the veranda, Astor would get
ten out of ten for accessibility. But apart
from that, this bar overlooking Arpoador
beach attends well to the needs of wheelchair users, with adapted bathrooms,
tables that allow the positioning of wheelchairs and other initiatives which guarantee good drinks all round!
For those who are looking for a lively and
typically North-East Brazilian night out,
the Feira de São Cristóvão can be an
option as a wheelchair-friendly venue.
With free entry and a flat layout, getting
around is easy, even with the madness
of the party going on all around. It’s not
difficult to find adapted restaurants, with
high tables which accommodate wheelchairs, bathrooms with handrails and a
good structure for people who have difficulty getting around.

almost compulsory visits for those arriving in the marvellous city, the Christ
the Redeemer statue and Sugar Loaf

Na maioria das escolinhas é assim: você pode ter aulas, com direito a instrutor e equipamentos ou se você já dá suas remadas
por aí, só aluga a prancha. O período costuma ser de uma hora
e o que pesa no bolso fica entre R$ 50 e 70s, um pouco mais, um
pouco menos. Se você for tipo cliente fidelidade e preferir fazer
um pacote, um desenrole pode ser a melhor opção. Vale lembrar
que no verão, o SUP assim como a água de coco e o mate ficam

In most SUP courses it’s like this: an instructor will give you
lessons and equipment is usually included but if you’re already
a regular paddler just rent the surfboard. Typically the period
is for an hour and the price is a bit salty: between R$ 50 and 70,

O pavê de doce de leite crocante é “a” sobremesa
do lugar.

provou como o simpático Jeff – meio gerente, meio
recepcionista – sugeriu: completo. E com batatas

art carioca e o ambiente é descontraído, tem sempre

ali que a galera normalmente se espalha, já dando o
tom do que você vai ver escada acima.

digna. A casa funciona há pouquíssimo tempo e já
tem clientes cativos que elegem o café para uma
tarde de trabalho, graças ao café e ao wifi do lugar.
O wrap de tapioca com mussarela de búfala vale
até para quem não está com fome. Passando por lá
na quinta, rola um happy hour e se a idea for um
café da manhã dominical, o som é por conta de um
chorinho ao vivo da melhor qualidade.

A bebida colorida que mistura chá, gelo, leite,
frutas e bolinhas gelatinosas feitas de tapioca ou
de algas promete substituir as yogos no quesito
mania de verão. O bubble tea surgiu nos anos
80 em Taiwan e de lá pra cá, versões em shake
e smoothie também caíram no gosto do povo,
pelo menos é o que dizem as filas nos dias de
sol na loja ipanemenese, a primeira filial carioca
da rede. E olha, vale por um bifinho: 330 calorias
num copinho.

sorriso amarelo do carioca neste quesito finalmente
vai ter fim! Abre na semana que vem o Tom do
Leblon, onde funcionou por anos a fio o Antonio’s,
um dos redutos da boemia musical carioca. A casa
pretende resgatar aquele climão dos antigos piano
bares, com ambiente pequeno, louçaria, decoração
fina e claro, bons drinques.

Para quem esperava um clube novo para se jogar na noite, a boa nova atende pelo nome de La Paz.
Por trás da casa está Cabbet Araújo, que sabe tudo de
noite e há uma década comanda o infer-ninho mais
querido de Copa, a Fosfobox. Instalada num sobrado
de dois andares, a boate já recebe na programação
festinhas alternativas que bombam desde a inauguração. Com sofás espalhados, dois bares e terraço,
parece que público anda feliz e lotando as noites por
lá. Jazz, eletrônico, hip hop, rock, house, drum n’bass,
black music, todas as tribos são bem-vindas. É só ficar
ligado na agenda que é jogação certa!

club is Cabbet Araújo, who knows everything about
nightlife and has been in charge of Copacabana’s
most beloved night-club, Fosfobox. Located on a twostorey house, the club already has on schedule alternative parties that have been filling the house since
its opening. With its scattered sofas, two bars, and a
terrace, people seem pleased and have been crowding the place during the nights. Jazz, electronic, hip
hop, rock, house, drum and bass, African-American
music, everybody is welcome to come. Just check out
the schedule and you’ll sure have a great time!

A cadeira de barbeiro antiga faz as honras na porta do Atelier Café. No som, a
versão brasileira de Bob Marley gravada
por Gil dá o tom. Há três anos, Sérgio
Friedman reúne ali música, arte, gastronomia e brechó, tudo envolto por um ar
irresistivelmente infame, daqueles de
quem já viu muita coisa passar por ali.
“O quê? Coisas impu-blicáveis! Desliga
isso aí que eu te conto uma.”, confirma
Sérgio com um sorrisinho de canto de
boca. O Atelier é queridinho de quem
vai em busca de música ao vivo, boemia
e um clima legalize. Se restava alguma
dúvida da aura libertina do lugar, acaba
no instante em que, no meio da nossa degustação, surge o cantor pernambucano
- e morador do prédio da frente – Otto,
perguntando se naquele dia teria aquela
“batidinha”. “Já está pronta!”, responde
Fernando, produtor da casa e dono da receita da bebida xodó do cantor, habitué
do Atelier. “Quer uma prova?”, pergunta.
Confesso que bebi e digo uma coisa:

The old barber’s chair does the honors
at the door of Atelier Café. A Brazilian
version recorded by Gilberto Gil of a
music by Bob Marley sets the tone. For
over three years Sérgio Friedman brings
together music, art, gastronomy, and a
thrift shop with an infamous yet irresistible ambience, as if the place has seen
a lot of history. “What? Unpublishable
stuff! Turn that off and I’ll tell you”, says
Sérgio with a smirk. Atelier Café is a good
place to those who are after live music, debauchery and a ‘legalized’ atmosphere. If
there was any doubt about the libertine
aura of this place, it went away as soon
as Otto, the singer from Pernambuco
who lives just across the street, walked
in the middle of our degustation asking
if they were going to serve their batida
that night. “It’s already made!” answered
Fernando, the producer and creator of
the singer’s favorite drink. “Do you want
to taste it”, he asked. After having some,
I must confess: Otto knows it all when it
comes to batidas.

on his couch after barbecue or a party, the Austrian Andreas Wielend opened
the hostel in 2010. It didn’t take long before Andreas made the Arvrão, the highest peak of the hill, shake with hyped parties with foreign DJs, great caipirinhas
and a sunrise that, if I were you, I wouldn’t miss for anything. That will make you
