Techniques such as nucleic acid purification (DNA and RNA), protein and DNA
electrophoreses, cloning and construction of plasmid vectors, construction of metabolic
altered strains, protein purification, chromatography, identification and quantification of
compounds by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), synthesis of radioactive (14C)

This work involved the development of growth techniques for sulphate reducing
bacteria, purification and characterization of reserve polymers, metabolism and
enzyme characterization.
“Towards the Utilization of Cell-Reactors for the Production of Mannosylglycerate, an Enzyme
Stabilizer from Hyperthermophiles”

The final objective was the identification and utilization of compatible solutes as
stabilizers of biomaterials, namely enzymes, proteins, vaccines, cells and animal
tissues.
