Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum, transmitido originalmente pela TV Cultura entre
1994 e 1997, é o programa de maior sucesso veiculado por uma emissora
pública brasileira. A unanimidade da crítica, a conquista de diversos prêmios
nacionais e internacionais, e, principalmente, o imediato sucesso de público atestaram
que nascia ali um marco na história da produção audiovisual brasileira que ia além do
público infantojuvenil, e ganharia admiradores de ao menos três gerações.
Broadcast by TV Cultura between 1994 and 1997, Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum is the most successful program
ever shown on a Brazilian public television. The unanimity among the critics, several national and
international awards, and, most of all, the immediate success with the audience proved that a landmark
in the history of Brazilian audiovisual production was born, transcending children and youth audience,
for it gathered admirers from three generations at least.
Mixing a playful narrative to an innovative aesthetic project—without ever forgetting the educational
aspect—the program was able to establish, in its own right, a reference to the public within its ninety
episodes with Nino, Dr. Victor, Morgana, Pedro, Biba, Zeca, Celeste, and many other characters. They
were part of the richness of the Castelo’s environment, set in the middle of a big city, capable of
bringing together reality and imagination in an unforgettable way.
Twenty years later, São Paulo’s Museu da Imagem e do Som (MIS), supported by TV Cultura/
Fundação Padre Anchieta, conceived Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum – The Exhibition recreating the show’s
settings through an immersive exhibition design that captivated old fans and at the same time created
a new legion of admirers.
It is with great joy that we now recreate this exhibition at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil Rio de
Janeiro. Let your imagination fly and enjoy your visit to Castelo’s settings with original pieces from
the show—many of which were recovered and restored by MIS—such as props, photos, scale models,
sketches, and costumes, as well as excerpts from the show itself.
Aliando uma narrativa lúdica a um projeto estético inovador – sem deixar de lado o
caráter educativo –, o programa teve o mérito de, em seus noventa episódios, fixar no
imaginário de seu público as histórias de Nino, Dr. Victor, Morgana, Pedro, Biba, Zeca,
Celeste e de muitos outros personagens que compunham a riqueza desse Castelo
situado em meio a uma grande cidade, que conseguia unir realidade e imaginação de
forma memorável.
Transcorridos vinte anos, o Museu da Imagem e do Som (MIS) de São Paulo, com o
apoio da TV Cultura/Fundação Padre Anchieta, concebeu Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum – A
exposição, que apresentou seus ambientes através de uma expografia imersiva que não
só encantou os fãs do programa, mas também criou uma nova legião de admiradores.
É com imensa alegria que recriamos essa exposição no Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil
Rio de Janeiro. Solte sua imaginação e aproveite a visita aos ambientes do Castelo,
em meio a peças do acervo – muitas delas recuperadas e restauradas pelo MIS –, como

Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil hosts Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum – The Exhibition, honoring the multiawarded children’s show broadcast by TV Cultura between 1994 and 1997. Sponsored by the

CCBB 26th anniversary.
A success among critics and viewers, Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum was a cornerstone, mainly for its successful
combination of educative and entertaining contents. The idea of educating through fun (or having fun
through education), previously explored by shows such as Sesame Street and Sítio do pica-pau amarelo,
had disappeared from TV projects aimed at children and teens, leaving a gap that would be occupied
by this castle’s dwellers with their fascinating stories. A high-quality show with excellent ratings, it was
recognized both in Brazil and internationally, pleasing parents, educators, and, more importantly, its
target audience. Despite the short period it was aired, it was fixated in viewers’ imaginations, became
the subject of academic research, and stood the test of time.
By hosting this exhibition, conceived and realized by São Paulo’s Museu da Imagem e do Som (MIS),
CCBB Rio provides the visitors with the opportunity to interact with this magic realm and reaffirms
its commitment to Brazilian cultural diversity.

Sucesso de crítica e público, Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum foi um marco, sobretudo pela
combinação bem-sucedida de conteúdos pedagógicos e entretenimento. A ideia de educar
divertindo (ou divertir educando), já explorada em atrações como Vila Sésamo e Sítio
do pica-pau amarelo, havia desaparecido dos projetos televisivos voltados para crianças
e adolescentes, deixando uma lacuna que viria a ser ocupada pelos habitantes desse
castelo e por suas narrativas fascinantes. Com qualidade e bons índices de audiência, o
programa obteve reconhecimento dentro e fora do Brasil, agradando pais, educadores e,
mais importante, seu público-alvo. A despeito do pouco tempo de veiculação, fixou-se
no imaginário dos espectadores, tornou-se objeto de estudo no meio acadêmico e resistiu
à passagem do tempo.
Ao receber esta mostra, concebida e realizada pelo Museu da Imagem e do Som (MIS) de
São Paulo, o CCBB Rio oferece a seu público a oportunidade de interagir com esse universo
mágico e reforça o compromisso da instituição com a diversidade cultural brasileira.

S/A present Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum – The Exhibition, a tribute to one of the greatest hits in Brazilian
children’s and young adults’ audiovisual production.
More than a tribute, this project aims at moving Brazilian families. We believe that a show revealing
the backstage of Castelo, a TV show that combined education and entertainment contents with so
much fun in the 1990s, will charm hearts of every age.
By realizing this exhibition, particularly when Rio de Janeiro is celebrating its 450th anniversary, BB
DTVM and Brasilprev offer as a gift to the city’s population an exhibition highlighting audiovisual
content as relevant cultural expression, reaffirming their commitment to widespread and unrestricted
access of the population to innovating artistic and entertainment supports, and marking their presence
at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil’s official 26th anniversary celebrations, a reason to be proud

O Saguão do Castelo é tão grande que abriga até
uma árvore centenária. É nela que vive a cobra
Celeste, que é muito geniosa, mas tem bom
coração. Ela adora reclamar que é uma pobre
cobra sem pernas, braços e mãos, e sempre
chama a atenção do Nino quando ele age de
forma infantil. Neste ponto de encontro dos
moradores e seus visitantes, também vivem as
fadas Lana e Lara, e o João de Barro e as Patativas.
ENTRANCE TO THE CASTELO
The Doorkeeper, who lives in the
entrance to the Castelo, is in
charge of keeping the Castelo as
safe as possible, opening the door
only to those who solve his puzzles
or follow his crazy instructions.

The Hall of the Castelo [Castle] is so huge that it
even houses a centenary tree. There lives the snake
Celeste, who is bad-tempered, but a good soul indeed.
She loves complaining about being a poor snake
without legs, arms, and hands, and always calls
Nino’s attention when he behaves like a child. It is at
this meeting point of inhabitants and their visitors
that the fairies Lana and Lara live, as well as the
birds João de Barro and the Patativas.

no mesmo exato momento,
o Relógio avisa a chegada
de Dr. Victor.

With its walls covered in old books
of tales, legends, and poetry, the
Castelo’s Library has its thousands
of books taken care of by the
librarian Gato Pintado [Painted
Cat], who lives there and loves
literature. He knows each and
every copy of this collection and
is responsible for keeping the
public delighted.

isso! Uma não! DUAS!” “Lá vêm Tíbio e Perônio”,
cientistas malucos que realizam experimentos
científicos dentro do laboratório do Castelo.
Os estudos dos mistérios elementares do dia
a dia só são interrompidos quando a dupla é
surpreendida pelos barulhos de seu misterioso
bicho de estimação, o Tatatossauro, que, enorme
e faminto, vive escondido até de seus donos, que
morrem de medo dele.

“I know someone who would be very interested in
it! Actually not one! TWO!” “There come Tíbio
and Perônio [Tibia and Fibula],” crazy scientists
who do scientific experiments inside the lab of the
Castelo. The analysis of elementary daily mysteries
is interrupted only when they are surprised by the
noises of their mysterious pet, the Tatatossauro.
Enormous and hungry, he lives hidden even from
his owners, who are afraid of it.
Não são só as baratas que correm pelos
encanamentos do Castelo. Lá no subterrâneo
vivem o monstro Mau e seu assistente
Godofredo. Mau tem como principal
passatempo propor desafios aos visitantes
do Castelo. Mas todo cuidado é pouco,
pois basta uma única resposta errada
para Mau lanç ar, com toda energia, sua
inesquecível gargalhada fatal. Porém,
você nunca estará sozinho neste jogo:
Godofredo sempre está disposto a ajudar,
nem que seja com uma trapacinha
leve, pois seu maior medo é ouvir a
gargalhada fatal do companheiro e, por
isso, faz de tudo para impedi-la. Será
que Mau conseguirá convencê-lo de
seu poder maligno?
The Castle Piping is not only full of
cockroaches. In the basement there live
the monster Mau [Bad] and his assistant
Godofredo. Mau’s hobby is to challenge
the visitors to the Castelo. But it is
wise to be careful, because only one
wrong answer can make him launch
his fatal and unforgettable laughter in
all his energy. However, you will never
be alone in this game: Godofredo
is always ready to help, even if by
cheating a little, for he is mostly
afraid of his partner’s fatal laughter,
and therefore, tries to avoid it at all
costs. Will Mau convince you of his
evil power?

Dr. Victor conhecido como Dr. Victor, nem mesmo
seu sobrinho Nino! É lá que o feiticeiro e
inventor de três mil anos de idade coloca
em prática suas poderosas e talentosas
invenções. O dono do Castelo não admite
bagunças no lugar e, de vez em quando, dá
broncas em quem não cumpre com suas
obrigações. Os descolados irmãos gêmeos
Tap e Flap são um par de botas de óculos
escuros que sempre aparecem por lá e,
falando em rima, vivem visitando Nino
em suas peripécias na oficina do tio.
Music hall
Castelo que é castelo tem que ter uma bela Sala de
Música. E essa é mais que especial, pois abriga
inúmeros detalhes e segredos. Dizem por aí que a
Pianola − linda engenhoca feita pelo Dr. Victor −,
ao ser ativada, faz com que bailarinos dancem de
acordo com os ritmos e melodias das músicas. Lá
também podem ser encontradas relíquias, como o
Circo − presente de Aldebarã Astrobaldo, irmão de
Morgana e pai de Victor, para seu neto Nino −, além
de invenções como a Caixa de Música, que mostra
números de dança de temas variados, e o Desenho
Mágico, que forma desenhos de acordo com o som.
A real castle must have a Music Hall. And this one
is more than special, for it carries many details and
secrets. Legend has it that when Pianola is activated—a
beautiful gadget created by Dr. Victor —dancers can
perform according to the rhythm and melodies of
the music. There are also relics, such as the Circo
[Circus]—a gift from Aldebarã Astrobaldo, Morgana’s
brother and Victor’s father, to his grandson Nino—
besides inventions such as the Caixa de Música
[Music Box], that shows dances of different types,
and the Desenho Mágico [Magic Drawing], which
is able to draw according to the sound.
“Thunder and lightning!” Nobody can mess
up with the office of Victor Stradvarius
Victorius, alias Dr. Victor. Not even his
nephew Nino! It is where the threethousand-year-old sorcerer and inventor
practices his powerful and talented
inventions. The owner of the Castelo does
not allow messing up and occasionally
calls the attention of those who do not
cope with the obligations. The cool
twin brothers Tap and Flap are a pair of
boots wearing sunglasses, who are always
around. They live there and visit Nino
during his adventures at his uncle’s
office, always speaking in rhymes.

Etevaldo
Na Sala da Lareira, você faz uma viagem pelo mundo
sem sair do lugar! Lá é possível conhecer as Músicas
do Mundo Todo, um globo terrestre que, ao ser
tocado, apresenta músicas típicas e a bandeira do país
selecionado, e as marionetes que saltam da lareira
para apresentar a cultura e os costumes de diversas
nacionalidades. A Caixa Preta, outra engenhoca do
Dr. Victor, revela, por meio de formas geométricas,
pensamentos e sonhos de quem a abre. Mas não
fique desatento com tantas informações, pois a
Sala da Lareira guarda muitas outras surpresas.
Etevaldo
Etevaldo, the universal tourist, lives in
the outer space and always comes to
the Castelo, curious to know human
habits and other information about
the planet Earth. Some people say
that he can be harmful to us, because
he comes from another planet. What
a crazy and irrational thought! If
you come to know Etevaldo, you
will change your mind, for he is a
pleasant and playful guy, promoting
funny and messy times.

At the Fireplace Room, you travel worldwide without
moving! You can get in touch with Músicas do Mundo
Todo [Music from All Over the World]. When you touch
the globe, it presents typical music and the flag of the
elected country, at the same time that puppets pop out
from the fireplace to present the culture and customs
of several nationalities. The Caixa Preta [Black Box],
another of Dr. Victor’s gadgets, disclose, through
geometric shapes, thoughts and dreams of those who
open it. However, don’t lose attention with so much
information, because the Fireplace Room hides
many other surprises.
Etevaldo, o turista universal, mora no
espaço sideral e sempre surge no Castelo
curioso para conhecer os hábitos dos
humanos e outras informações sobre
o planeta Terra. Dizem que ele, por
ter vindo de outro planeta, pode nos
fazer mal. Mas que pensamento mais
maluco e irracional! Quem conhece
o Etevaldo sempre muda de opinião,
quando ele chega é pura diversão
e confusão, pois ele é um sujeito
agradável e brincalhão.

Dá para sentir de longe o cheirinho gostoso
que vem da Cozinha do Castelo. Será
que algum segredo da Bruxa Morgana
− ou até mesmo os ingredientes dessa
receita aromática − estão escondidos nas
inúmeras gavetas da cozinha? É preciso
procurar… Mas se a fome bater, e você
não achar a receita, não tem problema.
Ligue para o Bongô. Ele é amigo do Nino
e o entregador de pizza mais rápido do
mundo! Além disso, ele vai fazer do seu
jantar uma festa com seu bom humor,
danças e música. Só não conte para
ele que a Morgana está por perto, pois
ele morre de medo de bruxas! Ah! E
quando a pizza chegar, não se esqueça
de lavar as mãos!
From far away, we can feel the smell
coming from the Kitchen of the Castelo.
Is there any of Morgana’s secrets—or
even the ingredients of this aromatic
recipe—hidden in one of those many
drawers in the kitchen? Let’s look for
it… But if you get hungry and you
don’t find the recipe, don’t worry. Call
Bongô. He is Nino’s friend and he is
the fastest pizza delivery guy in the
world! Besides, he will turn your
dinner into a party with his good
spirits, dances, and music. But don’t
tell him Morgana is around, because
he is scared to death of witches!
Oh! And when the pizza arrives,
don’t forget to wash your hands!
Garden
Entre suas plantas, o Jardim do Castelo guarda
segredos que você não pode nem imaginar, mas
descobrir é fácil! Basta assobiar que, ligeira
como vento, a dona Caipora aparece com
uma história para contar. Ela diz conhecer
mais contos que o número de estrelas no céu
e ama a flora e a fauna. Entre suas narrações
fascinantes sobre a floresta e as peripécias
de dois indiozinhos sapecas, essa habitante
do mato vai embora no exato momento em
que sua charada é descoberta. Caipora!
Não vá embora! Mas se a saudade bater,
basta assobiar.
You can not even imagine the secrets hidden
among the plants of the Castelo’s Garden. But it
is easy to find out! All you have to do is whistle
and lady Caipora appears, as fast as the wind,
with a story to tell. She says she knows more
tales than the number of stars in the sky. And
she loves the plant and animal kingdoms. In
between her fascinating storytelling about
the forest and the adventures of the two
playful Indians, she disappears as fast as her
riddle is deciphered, for her natural habitat
is the forest. Caipora! Don’t go away! But
whenever you miss her, all you have to do
is whistle.

Cuidado por onde pisa, porque é muito fácil
esbarrar no Ratomóvel ao andar pelo Castelo. Ele
é o carrinho do Ratinho que, sempre apressado,
vive cantando os pneus de seu pequeno possante
por aí. O Ratinho mora em um pequeno buraco
MOUSE
do Castelo e, feito de uma massinha mágica,
FINGERLAND
ensina, por meio de músicas, a importância de
INDEX FINGER
se tomar banho, escovar os dentes e reciclar o
lixo. Com o Ratinho você pode dar tchau para
a preguiça e a sujeira, e adeus para o cheirinho
de suor! Mas o Castelo tem outros pequenos
seres que vivem por lá. É o caso do Fura-Bolo, dedoche que não deixa ninguém ficar
desanimado e aparece quando quer mostrar
para você um belo show da Dedolândia, uma
banda de dez integrantes rockabilly e ótimos
professores de matemática.

he is always ready to answer Zeca’s
countless questions, who won’t rest
until he has all his curiosities clarified!

Telekid
Watch your step, because you can easily bump into
Ratomóvel [Mousemobile] when moving inside
the Castelo. It belongs to Ratinho [Mouse], who
is always in a hurry, burning rubber with his
small and powerful vehicle. Ratinho is made of
a magic modelling clay, he lives in a small hole
in the Castelo and teaches, through music, the
importance of taking shower, brushing the
teeth, and recycling waste. With Ratinho, you
won’t be lazy anymore and can say goodbye
to the dirt and smell of sweat! But there are
other small guys living in the Castelo. FuraBolo [Index Finger], for instance, is a finger
puppet that won’t let you down and appears
whenever he wants to put on a beautiful
show of Dedolândia [Fingerland], a tenmember rockabilly band, who can also
teach math very well.

NINO’S ROOM
Quarto da
Morgana
É pelo Saguão que Nino, garoto de três séculos
de vida, tem acesso a seu Quarto, por meio de
uma porta giratória guardada por soldadinhos de
chumbo. Nino é sobrinho do Dr. Victor e, com ele,
estuda para ser feiticeiro, mas o menino bagunceiro
e atrapalhado cria mais planos e protótipos
impossíveis que possíveis. Um dos únicos feitiços
que deu certo foi o que trouxe as crianças Zeca,
Biba e Pedro para brincar com ele.
It is through the Hall that Nino, a three-century-old
boy, has access to his Room, when mobile tin soldiers
open the revolving door. Nino, Dr. Victor’s nephew,
studies to be a sorcerer—but clumsy and messy as
he is, he devises impossible plans and prototypes,
instead of possible ones. One of the only spells
that worked out fine was the one that brought the
children Zeca, Biba, and Pedro to play with him.

Morcego, ratazana, baratinha e companhia.
Está na hora da feitiçaria! Em seu quarto,
entre poções cheias de fumaça no caldeirão,
a bruxa Morgana, tia-avó do Nino e
poderosa feiticeira de seis mil anos, guarda
o Livro Falante, que ela aciona quando
precisa fazer alguma magia especial. As
paredes de seu quarto guardam histórias
de todos os grandes acontecimentos
mundiais. Amiga de Colombo e Leonardo
da Vinci, a feiticeira sabe a origem de
todas as palavras e viaja a bordo de sua
vassoura mágica ao redor do mundo na
companhia de sua fiel gralha Adelaide,
que Morgana diz que encontrou ainda
filhote, abandonada pela mãe por ser
capaz de falar.
Bat, rat, cockroach, and friends. It’s
witchcraft time! In her room, surrounded
by potions in the bubbling cauldron, the
witch Morgana, Nino’s great-aunt and
powerful six-thousand-year-old witch,
keeps the Livro Falante [Talking Book],
which she activates whenever she needs
some special magic. The walls in her
room keep the stories of the greatest
world events. A friend of Columbus’
and Leonardo da Vinci’s, the witch
knows the origin of every word and
travels around the world on her
magic broomstick with her faithful
friend, the jay Adelaide, found by
Morgana when the bird was still a
baby, abandoned by her mother
because she could talk.

Lustre
No galho mais alto da árvore da Celeste, dentro
do Saguão do Castelo, mora o trio musical
João de Barro e as Patativas. “Passarinho,
que som é esse?” Quando alguém ouve essa
canção, como num passe de mágica, entram
em ação o pássaro músico e as passarinhas
dançarinas, sempre alegres, para nos mostrar
algum instrumento diferente.
Chandelier
O pequeno Lustre do Castelo pode passar
despercebido por alguns, mas é um lindo cenário
de muita diversão e conhecimento, pois,
delicado e luminoso, é a morada das irmãs
Lana e Lara, fadinhas que adoram brincar
de adivinhação e, rodeadas de imagens,
desenhos e recortes, sempre arrumam um
pretexto para aprender e ensinar.
The small Chandelier of the Castle can go
unnoticed, but it is a beautiful setting for fun and
knowledge. Delicate and luminous, it is home to
the sisters Lana and Lara, the fairies who love
to play guessing games, and, surrounded by
images, drawings, and scrapbooks, always find
an excuse to teach and learn.
At the tallest branch of Celeste’s tree, right inside
the Hall of the Castelo, there lives the musical
trio João de Barro and the Patativas. “Little
bird, what sound is that?” When someone
hears that song, the singer and dancing birds
come into action, always joyfully showing us a
different instrument.

Dr. Abobrinha
Um especulador imobiliário, Senhor Doutor
Pompeu Pompilio Pomposo, é o vilão do
Castelo. Mais conhecido como Doutor
Abobrinha, vive entre seus disfarces e
tentativas para conseguir a assinatura do
contrato de venda do imóvel. Com esse
plano maligno concretizado, sonha em
demolir o Castelo e construir, em seu
lugar, um prédio de cem andares. Mas
não se preocupe, pois o plano dele nunca
dá certo, e ele nunca se dá bem!

Mister Doctor Pompeu Pompilio Pomposo,
a real estate speculator, is the villain of
the Castelo. Mostly known as Doutor
Abobrinha, he lives in disguise, trying
to get the contract signature to sell the
property. With this maleficent plan, he
dreams of demolishing the Castelo and
building a one-hundred-story building in
its place. But don’t worry, because his plan
never works out and he never succeeds.
