Message from the General Chair
This year when Rio plus 20 took place the most challenging aspect of the meeting showed to be the
commitment to change the words into actions. It is something that demands a lot of political and
economical efforts of different organizations in order to assure the survival of mankind in the planet.
Sustainable economic growth is the objective to be pursued by enterprises; groups of interest and
nations, which is something possible and desirable and that the technology available can be a
strong allied. The challenges to be overcome start with the adoption of energy efficiency policies,
management of water resources, safety, passing by green business and social welfare worldwide.
Research is now the key element for the enhancement of technological, economical and social
sustainable development.
SHEWC - Safety, Health and Environment World Congress has for many years offered the possibility of
updating and revisiting classical concepts and cutting edge useful information in environment, health and safety
research developments.
This year the theme of the congress is “Sustainable Growth and Development: Challenges and Needs of the
Twenty-First Century". It counts with some of the most recent research of many scientists of scientific
international community. It provides a rich encounter with edge research addressed to a wide variety of crucial

Message from the Local Chairs
The Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation, through the Engineering College (FEFAAP) has the pleasure to host
the Safety, Health and Environmental Word Congress (SHEWC'2012). FEFAAP believes an Educational Institution
should assume the social role of professional training in a systematic and organized level, not only technical but
also professional and intellectual that companies need, with skills and abilities that allow them to change and
evolve depending on the country's economic development.
The FEFAAP is aware that the development of a nation must go through education. The production of knowledge,
to come up with new discoveries, observation, conduction of experiments, construction of instruments, the
discovery of laws, establishment of forecasts, demand explanations, the elaboration of theories, the establishment
of concepts, the submission of hypothesis testing, explain and publish results, and finally try to apply that
technology in this study. This requires a special place, an Educational Institution.
SHEWC'2012 and FAAP united in a joint venture to collaborate in the accomplishment of the production of
knowledge, because during the period July 22-25 activities such as workshops, lectures, and other technical
sessions will be responsible for creating an environment permeated by the research and development; the fruit of
work of authors from different institutions that are willing to share their expertise.
The Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation welcomes all participants of SHEWC'2012 and wishes to all a good
work.

Claudio da Rocha Brito, Melany M. Ciampi
SHEWC - Safety, Health and Environment World Congress has been a success not always in terms of numbers but in terms of
quality. Many organizations have engaged the idea along the years and despite the difficulties it resists the time and crisis and
that is why this is its 12th edition. This edition is the result of many accomplishments of 2 organizations that have been working
together putting up a top scientific congress with quality and impact in academic society. 2012 has been a year of challenges
globally speaking and the future shows uncertain and promising at the same time. Sustainable growth with responsible actions
is the desirable way of development for developed and for the so called emerging countries. SHEWC - Safety, Health and
Environment World Congress’2012 has the collaboration of many scientists in the several sphere of knowledge who have
embraced the ideal of promoting human kind for the sake of future generations.

EXPLORING EXTREME LEARNING MACHINES FOR IDENTIFYING ROADS IN LANDSAT-4 THEMATIC MAPPER
IMAGERY
James Wolfer
Identifying roads in remotely sensed imagery provides one indicator land usage for agricultural and urban planning. The data
collected from one early sensing platform, the Landsat-4 Thematic Mapper, continues to be useful as historic data for land
change assessment. This work describes the result of applying the Extreme Learning Machine algorithm to train a Single-Layer
Feed-Forward Neural Network to detect roads in rural imagery. The results are then compared with a Backpropagation-trained
network, Learning Vector Quantization, and a Pulse-Coupled Neural Network. Results indicate that the Extreme Learning
Machine is competitive with other approaches, and offers the advantage of rapid training.
METHOD FOR THE CALCULATION OF LIQUID HYDROCARBON PIPELINES REHABILITATION PRESSURE
Florencio García-Lugo, Gabriel Soto-Cortés, Dario Guaycochea-Guglielmi
This work is based on Code ASME B31G Manual for Determining the Remaining Strength of Corroded Pipelines and ASME
B31.4-2006 Pipeline transportation systems for liquid hydrocarbons and other liquids. Key factors in the method are the safe
operation pressure for a pipeline system and the estimated reparation factor as a management index for rehabilitation programs
of sectors in danger of failure. The method includes a security conditions and system operation diagnose for usual settings
(pressures and flow rate), for a particular product and the identification of vulnerable sectors. A case study is presented,
considering steady and non-steady flow. The utility of this method is to orientate the analysis to the integral evaluation of
hydraulic security and to elaborate, as a consequence, proposals for its improvement.
A BETTER FUTURE WITH RENEWABLE ENERGY -PATENT OF MODEL PUD-BJ-"FROM IDEA TO THE PRODUCT"
Jožica Bezjak
The goal of the project was to make a small, independent electrical energy source for locations with enough sun-light, but
insufficient or non-existent distribution of electricity. Accumulator batteries, which store electrical energy, are filled during day,
and discharged as needed. The capacity of basic accumulator battery is sufficient to power a satellite phone recharger, lowconsumption lighting, and other smaller common appliances. The system is modular and a inverter can be added to provide
alternating current of 230V/50Hz or 110V60Hz. DIN standards were used in the realization phase of the project. We selected
gipsy settlement of Parag as a place to demonstrate the achievements of our project. We also commenced production of two
additional independent energy sources, one for a mountain hut on a popular trekking path near Slovenian – Croatian border, so
visitors can recharge flashlights and cell phones, and another for a popular school park of a school centre.
SERVICE LEARNING IN A DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS CAPSTONE COURSE

needs.
A TRANSDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO PSYCHOMOTRICITY
Marina Tschiptschin Francisco
This is about a fundamentally practical approach, based on the system Biodanza and on Psychomotricity, a subject that has
been researching the psychology of movement. In this combined approach, the main issues in Psychomotricity: Body as Lived,
Body as Perceived, Body as Represented, Body Schema, Lateralization, Space, Time, Rhythm, Muscle Tonus, Control,
Coordination, and Equilibrium are discussed under the light of the main currents of Psychomotricity, Bioenergetic Psychology,
and Developmental Psychology. Then, each one of these issues is translated into a Biodanza class that explores all its
possibilities and counterpoints. The aim is to experience and modify the emotional memory in the body, affecting its expression
through movement. Students are prepared to understand this approach that is a complement to Kinesiology, for it explores the
psychological counterpart of the logic and logistics inherent in the awareness of body and movement. The results of this
approach are disclosed and discussed.
EVALUATION OF THE INFLUENCE OF PARAMETERS OF ABDOMINAL PRESSURE ON THE DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF
THE LUMBAR SPINE IN HUMANS: SIMULATION WITH A LINEAR AND NONLINEAR MODELS
Luiz Heleno Moreira Duque, Tamotsu Hirata
The scope of this work is to analyse the variations of behaviour of the human lumbar spine with variations in its stiffness
parameters, including abdominal pressure influence neighbour parameters, simulated by a nonlinear mathematical model.
Some of the techniques for the clinical diagnosis of dysfunctions acting of the lumber segments of the human spine have been
based in the application of posteroanterior forces (PA). The parameters of influence: initial lordotic curvature, positions of the
geometric centers of the vertebrae, thorax, and the sacrum-pelvis, and point of application of the posteroanterior force were
evaluated from the X-ray image of patients. The nonlinear stiffness characteristic introduced affect the motion stability when
periodic posteroanterior forces and impulsive forces are applied to a vertebra. The precise motion of individual lumber segments
may allow the use of a particular patient data for obtaining a dysfunction analysis of the segments.

Isoflavones present in soybeans belong to the family of polyphenols, a large class of substances synthesized by plants. In
addition to antioxidant activity, common to the polyphenols, isoflavones by its structural similarity to human estrogen, determine
major estrogenic effects and are therefore referred to as phytoestrogens. The purpose of this show the adverse effects of
isoflavones on human reproduction due to excessive consumption of soy. The research will use Wistar rats (biological reagents
of choice) and food prepared with soy, given to them. We hope the results show a correlation between the consumption of soybased food and animal infertility.

Burnout syndrome is a response to chronic emotional stress characterized by physical exhaustion and/or psychological, on a
cold and depersonalized attitude towards people and a feeling of inadequacy in relation to the tasks to be performed. We
investigate possible evidence of its presence in the faculty of graduate students and teachers in high school. Specifically, we
intend to analyze the perceptions of teachers about the process inter-relational spaces of learning and teaching, identify, in the
case of the existence of such evidence, at what stage of development is the pathology. We believe that the discrepancy arises
between idealism and individual occupational reality. Otherwise, we say that a change in attitude of teachers towards their
students makes the emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and lack of personal involvement in work, multidimensional
components that give the characteristic pathology, did not reach so intense.

It is intended to observe and compare the level of stress and / or depression in isolated communities of Kalungas living in rural
communities and residents in the city in order to identify the level of stress in these individuals presented, considering the
lifestyle adopted. The hectic routine associated with bad habits have led individuals to a worrying picture of depression in the
world. The quest for pleasure, income and optimal use of time, with overload, are causing depressive symptoms such as mood
swings, sadness, loss of interest or pleasure, loss or significant weight gain, insomnia, psychomotor agitation or retardation,
fatigue and others. Depressive disorders are a group of diseases with high and increasing prevalence in the general population,
and their risk is due to the fact that diseases such as depression and heart disease are replacing the traditional problems of
infectious diseases and malnutrition.

METALS CONCENTRATION ASSESMENT IN SOIL AFFECTED BY RELEASE OF RED MUD IN BARCARENA IN-PA
Cleber Silva e Silva, Simone de Fátima Pinheiro Pereira, Davis Castro dos Santos, Rafaella Galvão Miranda, Lindete Rodrigues
dos Santos, Ronaldo Magno da Rocha, Geiso Rafael Fonseca Oliveira
Barcarena-PA is located in an industrial hub for the production of alumina from bauxite by the Bayer process, generating red
mud with high character caustic as waste. The red mud is stored in containment basins, open pit, severely disrupting the
environment. In April 2009, due to heavy rain in the Amazon, the sump was not enough to stem the inflow of rainwater, leading
to overflow of toxic waste containing large pollutants that were washed away into the environment. The goal of this study was to
evaluate the presence of metals in the soil of the area affected in relation to environmental damage caused by their presence in
this ecosystem. Samples were collected at three depths and quantitative determination of metals was performed by ICP OES.

The Murucupi River forms an important tributary of the Marajó bay, within complex basin of the Amazon region, where the local
population uses the river water as a food source (fish) and transport. In April 2009, the Murucupi River received a large amount
of toxic waste that leaked from containment basins of red mud of the industrial hub in Barcarena, where does the processing of
bauxite to produce alumina by the Bayer process. After pouring, the biota of the Murucupi River was completely affected,
leading to death of fish, plants and microorganisms. Whereas the Murucupi River suffers direct influence of the tide that enters

The Amazon Basin is the largest watershed in the world, concentrating 1/5 of Earth's fresh water. Despite all the grandiosity, it is
difficult to find, in some states bordering by it, the areas completely free of pollution. This is the case of the Guajará Bay and
Guama River who receive all of organic and inorganic discharge from the city of Belém capital of Pará. The study aimed to
verify the conditions of environmental vulnerability of water bodies through the physicochemical and biochemical front of
CONAMA Resolution 357-05 considering that is from this river the water that is withdrawn for treatment and distribution in the
city. We used the YSI sonde to measure the parameters and chemometrics for the interpretation of results. The results showed
that the rivers have preserved their conditions except for pH which proved to be below the recommended minimum.

The presence of potentially toxic elements is responsible for adverse effects on the environment, with repercussions on the
economy and public health. The introduction of toxic elements in aquatic systems occurs through geochemical processes,
weathering and the contribution attributed to human activity is a reflection of its extensive use by industry. In the industrial area
of Barcarena a number of large companies settled in the last decades especially in the aluminium industry and kaolin. The
ecological consequences of this production are well known: the devastation of the land for mining, encroachment of large areas
for building local places to disposal of red mud tailings of kaolin, pollution of surface and groundwater. This work will be aimed to
provide the environmental monitoring by means of hydrodynamic models of the SisBAHIA software of the basin that bathes the
industrial pole of Barcarena after the spill occurred in 2009.

A NEW CLASS OF ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGIES IN MEDICAL TRAINING BASED ON COMBINING CLASSIFIERS
Ronei Marcos de Moraes, Liliane dos Santos Machado
Researches on training assessment for simulators based on Virtual Reality have less than 20 years old. By the use of
simulators is possible to know users' performance during the training to analyze if they are prepared to perform the procedure in
real situations. Basically, a Single User's Assessment System (SUAS) must continuously monitor all user interactions on VR
environment and compare their performance with pre-defined expert's classes of performance to recognize user’s level of
training. In spite of the several methodologies proposed as kernel for SUAS, most of them are based on single classifiers. In this
paper is discussed a new class of methodologies for SUAS based on Combining Classifiers.
NUMERICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF THE LATERAL-TORSIONAL BUCKLING OF GLUED-LAMINATED WOOD
BEAMS
Celso Antonio Abrantes, Alfonso Pappalardo Jr., José Nivaldo Garcia
This paper presents numerical and experimental studies on the structural behaviour of glued-laminated (‘glulam’) wood beams.
The identification of lateral-torsional buckling and the quantification of critical and ultimate loads were first obtained through
laboratory tests, whose results were then used to calibrate geometrically nonlinear finite element models. The glulam beams
were represented in the mathematical model as a classic elastic-brittle material with orthotropic behaviour, composed of multiple
layers of interface elements, capable of transmitting shear and normal stresses, with constitutive laws for the interface elements
empirically obtained by testing an instrumented beam. The influence of the grain orientation, the eccentricities of loading,
geometrical imperfections (inherent to the manufacturing process of the glulam) and type of the glue material in the nonlinear
behaviour of beams of laminated wood will be checked. The experimental and numerical results will be confronted with
theoretical stability results, as well as with international codes of practice.

The lack of competitiveness of construction sector and the increased of competition has led contractors to seek new solutions
and processes aiming to increase productivity, improve quality, achieve better performance and lower costs, among other
objectives. The Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have been considered as an important tool of persuasion
on those objectives. Based on a literature review carried out previously, the aim of this work is to present a summary of the
general characterization of the state-of-art on ICT and mobility solutions, highlighting the fact that the ICT improve the access
and management of information and knowledge, and the mobility solutions seek essentially to allow real-time access to
information, at any place and time, and also the fact that both are commonly used in contexts where a efficient transmission of
information and knowledge is considered crucial to success.

Adrenoleukodystrophy is a genetically determined with X-linked recessive or sex, its transmission occurs from mother to
offspring, affecting predominantly males. The biochemical defect in X-ALD is related to impairment of partial or total β-oxidation
of VLCFA in peroxisome saturated, caused by various mutations in the gene ABCD1, responsible for metabolism of VLCFA.
Blocking this pathway usually results in neurological impairment, adrenal glands and testicles. Besides the techniques being
used, currently the diagnosis and treatment of X-ALD is also performed by determining the mutation through molecular analysis
of gene and drug therapy also with genes. This study highlights the main means of early diagnosis of X-ALD, as well as

One of the deadliest cancers worldwide is lung cancer. Disease considered rare in the early twentieth century, now has
become an epidemic. Due to late diagnosis in early stages of the malignancy, the survival rate is usually low in both sexes. The
habit of smoking, as well as occupational exposure to chemicals, to influence the onset of lung carcinoma. As well as stopping
smoking reduces your risk, although it remains higher than those who never smoked. This article reviews lung cancer in a
succinct way to better understanding of this pathology, in order to facilitate their diagnosis and possible cure. The treatment is
based on the medical diagnosis, from the results of tests carried out by biomedical. This professional is unable to make a
precise examination and conclusive, which facilitates the choice of treatment to cure disease or improve quality of life of the

Several works have been performed in the last years to understand and to improve the efficiency of recycling processes of
materials and waste, with the purpose to optimize environmental and economic savings. The products generated from
aluminum scrap recycling are melted aluminum and a slag with a high content of metal. It is possible to recover an amount of
the aluminum present into slag generated from secondary metallurgy by melting this slag with fluxing salt in rotary furnaces. The
present work studied the efficiency of aluminum recovery from heating slag in a rotary furnace with two kinds of salt fluxes (NaCl
and a mixture containing NaCl, KCl and Criolite). The results showed that greater efficiency of metal recovery was possible by
the action of the mixture containing NaCl, KCl, and Criolite with an average of aluminum recovery of 64,76%.

Daylight has been a prominent element in different stages of the history of engineering. The imperative of sustainability requires
that natural light is one of the few renewable resources available once again be treated with due importance. Another important
factor is the excessive spending with ventilation. In order to keep the rooms of a home or office comfortable together, the current
culture causes companies to adopt solutions to sustainability, putting ever more central air conditioning, increasing energy
consumption. This is a paradigm to be changed. Based on these factors, this paper aims to examine the feasibility of
implementing sustainable glass in construction in order to better energy performance of the building. By analyzing aspects of
combining natural light with artificial lighting, as well as functional aspects of the glass that block radiation and provide better
thermal comfort, reducing the consumption of air conditioning, is proven to be a good solution.

study sought, through the characteristics of medical geography, detect spatial clusters of tuberculosis in the city of João Pessoa
in 2010. The SCAN method seeks to identify spatial clusters, and is based on the method of maximum likelihood, so this was
verified with the null hypothesis of random occurrence of tuberculosis cases in the neighborhoods. Were detected patterns that
do not obey the randomness of tuberculosis cases in the period studied. Thus, based on medical geography, it is clear that the
spatial variables are an important determinant of health and should not therefore be disregarded in influencing the occurrence of
health events.

its components or such as an adequation to an archtecture style. The visionary buildings could be nominated as notemporal and
buildings that are beyond the current conditions and visited ones. The principal characteristic of visionary building is the
insurmountable air for the normal observer, the feeling and questions why that form had been and how it was possible
constructed and the sustainable guidelines attempted. But in fact to realize building implies more than known and choose the
design technics and tecnologies to transport the virtual and art condition to real, some topics are needed like use, habitability,

BIOCONSTRUÇÃO: A FORMA BÁSICA PARA A SUSTENTABILIDADE DAS CONSTRUÇÕES
Sasquia Hizuru Obata, Michel Habib Ghattas
The constructive method currently practiced, collaborates significantly to increasing environomental impact, acting in
unsustainable and non-ecological way. This movement, stimulated by the high habitation deficit creates a necessity to produce
materials with low cost that make viable accelerated constructions, independently of the quality offered to the user in their
residence. Counterpointing this practice, professionals involved in several areas search to make viable alternatives to the
development of new materials and constructive methods by rescueing ancient techniques allied to new technologies, thus acting
in an efficient and responsible way. The multidisciplinary performance brings along broader visions that avoid unfocus and
inefficient attitudes, where the implementation of a new conscience becomes urgent and necessary. The industrial materials
consume a lot of energy during its productive process, and its exchange for natural materials, and the reutilization of postconsumer material enters as immediate measure, creating a field to the development products and responsible companies.

The corporate world changes for the new sustainability reality will be cultural and it won't be easy, in several companies, this will
be exhausting or impossible, while in other the think and actions will be natural. In the moment, the common is to think and to
act in three dimensions and that it is not task of the easiest, but when it is addressed to the maintainable capitalism, in the
companies, industries and savings there are indications that the acting will be measured with base in about seven reforms .
These reforms will be felt much more in the organizations than in the government organs, and in fact, they are already
happening in symbiosis with the great turbulences of the present time (global heating, contamination of the soil, collapse of the
fishing, climatic change, etc.), that without a doubt they will aid in the transition to the sustainability.

the parameters of nitric acid concentration, temperature and time final decomposition in a microwave oven and block digester,
were optimized using multivariate methodologies. After obtaining the optimal values of the parameters chosen, the accuracy of
the two proposed methods was assessed by the recovery of analytes in two certified reference materials. The recoveries ranged
between 97 and 112% for the microwave, and 96-112% for the digestion block digester, statistical comparison showed no
significant difference between the values obtained by the proposed methods and the certified values, these methods can be
used for digestion of plant tissue as an alternative faster and more effective.

Since 1998, the Brazilian public management uses the Multiyear Plan (PPA) as a tool to formalize the planning of a government
for four years. The objective of this study is the evaluation of programs relating to environmental health and its monitoring in two
states of the Amazon (Pará and Amapá), based on the PPA 2008-2011. People's needs are assessed by environmental health
indicators, the Ministry of Health, and evaluation of indicators follows the methodology for Indicators Program. Partial results
show that the area of environmental health is directed to programs for water supply, in the state of Pará, while the state of
Amapá also presents programs relating to sanitation and control of air pollution. It is verified also that the two states do not
follow a logical method of selection of indicators, with an a priori evaluation of the performance of fledgling programs.

Green roofs are being increasingly adopted to provide sustainable urban rainwater management, as a tool to dampen flood
peak through runoff storage. An initial, comprehensive literature review is performed reporting the most common green roof
design techniques. A practical, mathematically based method is proposed for green roof sizing, starting by adopting a design
storm based on the local storm equation, finally yielding the thickness of the permeable layer necessary for the required
storage. A hypothesis is adopted that all the infiltrated rain may be retained within this layer and only when it stops will the
discharge of stored water start. A realistic case study, based on hypothetical data describing a storm event and the roof layers,
demonstrated efficiency on attenuating flow peaks at the roof outlet. A leaflet is proposed to encourage citizens to install green
roofs, by highlighting their several advantages.

This paper reports the response of a MOS sensor device to H2 and NH3 gases diluted in N2 or dry air. The sensing element
structure is a MOS device whose gates are made up of Pt, Au, Pd metals. The sensibility of this device depends on the
structural characteristics of gates such as theirs, geometries, thickness and the type of metal. The detection principle of the
device depends on the induced photocurrent signal. To do this, it developed a gas detection system capable of generating
photocurrent signals. A pulsed laser beam was scanned point by point. Thus, it was obtained images corresponding to each
representative chemical atmosphere. The sensor showed high sensitivity to gases H2 and NH3. Additionally it has been
observed that when dry air and N2 were used as the test gas carrier, the sensor response showed significant differences with
lowest sensitivity for dry air.

Among the actions in the climate policy in São Paulo city are the promotion of renewable energy and the gradual replacement of
fossil fuels with less polluting fuel. It is planned to gradually reduce fossil fuel use by at least 10% each year from 2009 and use
in 2018 renewable fuel for all buses in its public transportation system. An important contribution to achieving this goal is the
Best Project which is a European Union proposal. The aim is to encourage the use of ethanol as a replacement for diesel in
urban public transport. Among the advantages of ethanol-powered buses in relation to fossil-fuel powered is the use of an
infrastructure compatible with the existing distribution in Brazil and the government's interest to support ethanol production and
reduce emissions. Despite the cost of ethanol production being 50% lower than diesel, new strategies are required to overcome

Aluminum recycling provides a reduction in energy consumption when compared to production of primary aluminum.
Furthermore it is considered as an opportunity to increase the waste value and generate new commercial products. In Brazil,
recycling is an economic activity that belongs to a set of environmental solutions and is commonly carried out by independent
small collectors and scrap dealers. This paper presents a case study from a company that manufactures aluminum parts using
recycled aluminum. The main difference pointed out in this paper is that the company has integrated an environmental solution
with economic gain. Despite the economic factors usually limiting alternatives for solving environmental problems, the
application of the eco-efficiency concept by the company's management has resulted in the company becoming more
economically viable and environmentally sound. The results show that it is possible to achieve economic and environmental
benefits together.

The present work studies the use of raw clay as proposal of material for the sustainable construction. The construction industry
is the activity that occupies one of the first places in ranking of more polluting, with the participation of approximately 40% of
greenhouse emissions in the world. In order to mitigate this impact the professionals have been discussed the productive
processes, having as goal the analysis of edifications life cycle. As a result it has been noted that the industrialized materials are
the greater responsible for the environmental impacts. In the history of Construction it can note that about 40% of the buildings
worldwide are constructed with raw clay. With these considerations, analyses and diagnostic on the techniques and
methodologies applied to the raw land use are presented in constructions. In the conclusion justifications are presented which
confirm the use of raw clay as proposal of material for sustainable construction.

The "dumps" and controlled landfills are potential sources of pollution that negatively affect human health and environmental
quality of areas under their influence. This study compares the recommendations described in the “Termo de Aditamento e
Ajustamento de Conduta” (TAAC) with the actions taken during operations and after the closure of the landfill Muribeca.
Through the history survey and current situation of the area, we evaluated the effectiveness of the solutions that were
implemented to minimize and resolve problems. The data show that. some positive results were achieved due to studies in the
area and the promotion of mitigation, but most suggested solutions were not implemented properly. It is concluded that the
inadequate management of the disposal area Muribeca after its closure caused impacts and socio-environmental problems that
last until today and may become even more serious.

Vera Ramos dos Santos, Janaina Conversani Botari, Alexandre Botari
The water passes by various physical and chemical processes in water treatment plants until it becomes suitable for human
consumption. In this context, the steps of coagulation and flocculation are important processes in obtaining of treated water. The
objective of the coagulation clotting crowd impurities while objective provide encounters between primary particles for the floc
formation. During or after the flocculation, in case of increasing the of agitation velocity, the flakes collide and there might be
break up. This phenomenon is called re-flocculation which can cause variations in the characteristics of flocs, and therefore the
efficiency of water treatment. This work investigates the flocs re-growing c and quantifies the efficiency of sedimentation with
and without re-flocculation induced in jar test equipment using water with high turbidity, around 100 uT, and study water
prepared with the addition of kaolinite.

with the elements seen in the two-dimensional plane, applied to projective drawing was addressed in the course. The
pedagogical approach held in this discipline has made it clear that the teaching/learning of the physical models were especially
effective, functional and a powerful tool to the theme by the students.

The main goal of this paper is to demonstrate, by a vision more critical, constructive and creative, that open public spaces, as
well as the squares of São Jorge do Patrocínio-PR, they need increasingly participatory plans next to users so that there could
be an effective social function. This paper analyzed as its object of study four squares of São Jorge do Patrocínio: Alberto
Romero square, the Praça da Matriz Church, Ana Cláudia Palhares square and the Bíblia square. On-site analysis has brought
failures detection, since the distribution and choice of public spaces inserted this urban network, until lack of a participatory
urban project that can fulfill the functions that such public spaces should be considered as the rest, encounter, meditation,
integrating with the environment, social and sports activities, the afforestation and landscape.
DIAGNÓSTICO E ANÁLISE INTERVENCIONAL DA APRENDIZAGEM SIGNIFICATIVA DE FÍSICA ACÚSTICA NO ENSINO
DA CONSTRUÇÃO CIVIL
Alexandre Botari, Janaina Conversani Botari
This work intent to diagnose and analyze the previous knowledge of the subject of Acoustics in Physics context in first year
students of Civil Engineering course. This work focused in significant learning of the Ausubel theory, enabling a better diagnosis
of the results of the questionnaires applied to students. Propose a quantitative and qualitative diagnosis of form and content to
the teaching and learning process of the subject of acoustics. Questionnaires were applied to an analysis of the degree of
associativity of previous knowledge from school and the many students’ life experiences. In this context it is possible to identify
the multiple forms of construction of "expertise" in the form of multiple alternatives conceptions to formal scientific knowledge.
Such maps of associativity allowed educational strategies and pedagogy, as well as the choice of educational tools for a
contextualized and adapted to prior “knowledge” diagnosed.
DIAGNÓSTICO DOS CONHECIMENTOS PRÉVIOS DE FÍSICA ACÚSTICA EM ALUNOS DO PRIMEIRO ANO DE
ENGENHARIA CIVIL
Alexandre Botari, Janaina Conversani Botari
This work has as main objective to analyze the teaching methodology of Acoustic content in the context of Environmental
Comfort for students of technology in civil construction. This work will be addressed significant learning according Ausubel
theory, enabling a better diagnosis of the results of the questionnaires applied to students. This paper proposes a quantitative
and qualitative diagnosis, of form and content, in relation to the teaching and learning of the subject of acoustics.
Questionnaires were applied before and after the educational intervention in constructivist educational approach content.
Educational computing tools used in contextualized didactic intervention. Therefore it was possible to establish a comparison
between the responses obtained and made himself a quantitative and qualitative analysis of educational intervention offered by
the pedagogical approach of content, as well as checking the degree of associativity of prior knowledge from school and many
life students’ experiences.

The squares are spaces for social interaction of urban life, laughter, meditation and meetings. The question of the effectiveness
of urbanization in the cities and the landscaping has taken priority dimensions for the public and private sectors. The importance
of this subject is given in view of problems related to floods, disasters, traffic, poor road systems, environmental pollution etc.
Public places and especially the squares in the city of Umuarama in the Northwest of Paraná, is a significant brand in this
region. Have been cataloged the 3 main squares focusing on the city's potential and aimed to make an urban analysis with a
view to future proposals for intervention in public open spaces, covering various aspects related to the urban landscape in
particular the squares. This project will analyze the following aspects: the state of conservation measures, equipment, furniture,
landscaping and lighting existing and efficiency.
