In the case of UMTS, and HSPA in particular, the extra attenuation due to the outdoor to indoor penetration has quite an impact in the data rate that is made available to customers, decreasing it to values that may be rather low. A good model for performance evaluation for this impact, depending on the type of indoor environment, base station coverage, is needed, so that radio network planners can design the network in such a way that a good quality of service is provided to customers. This thesis will address this problem, aiming at quantifying the impact for various scenarios. Objectivos: To establish a model for performance evaluation of UMTS/HSPA data transmission for indoor coverage from base stations located outdoors. Descrição: The thesis will be developed according to the following steps: --- Study of UMTS – study of the basic aspects of the system --- Study of HSPA – study of HSPA, and of the various configurations. -- Study of propagation models – study of propagation models for outdoor to indoor coverage --Scenarios development – development of scenarios for the system analysis. --- Model development – development of models for performance evaluation of data transmission in UMTS/HSPA. --- Model implementation – implementation of the developed models using previously developed routines. --Collection of data – collection of data from measurements in the various environments under study. -- Results assessment – assessment of results by comparison with others from literature and measurements. --- Scenario influence – analysis of the influence of the scenarios on the various performance parameters. --- Thesis conclusion – conclusion of the thesis by finalising its writing (the previous steps include the writing of the corresponding chapters).
