A
confirmação atual da crise mundial cada
vez mais acentuada dentro do perímetro
da Comunidade Europeia, vem reforçar
a estratégia que o Grupo Casais delineou e tem
vindo a adotar há algum tempo. Esta situação
está a obrigar todas as empresas do nosso setor
de atividade a proceder rapidamente a uma
reestruturação a todos os níveis, adaptando- se à
conjuntura mundial e aos mercados internacionais,
com o objetivo de fazer face à redução drástica
do volume de obras em Portugal, que atravessa
um período complicado para cumprir as metas
exigentes impostas pela Troika.
Assim, a nossa estratégia continuará de uma forma
cada vez mais acentuada, a privilegiar os desafios
internacionais, cujos sucessos são cada vez mais
importantes e decisivos para o crescimento do
Grupo Casais além fronteiras.

he current confirmation of the world-wide
crisis, increasingly greater within the
perimeter of the European Community,
gives reason to the strategy that the Casais
Group outlined and has come to adopt for some
time. This situation is compelling all the companies of our sector of activity to quickly proceed
with a reorganization at all levels, adapting to the
world-wide conjuncture and to the international
markets, with the objective to deal with the
drastic reduction of the volume of work contracts
in Portugal, which is going through a complicated
period in order to comply with the demanding
goals imposed by the Troika.
The Casais Group continues in this way oriented
towards the development of average and large
scale projects, characterized by a high technical
complexity of execution. In order to achieve it, we
aim to obtain a solid presence in Europe and also
in the Continents of Africa and America, where
opportunities of high potential appear, aiming
to consolidate projects and businesses in these
countries through local partnerships, which have

em Matosinhos
Inauguration GALP Refinery, in Matosinhos
A
participação da Casais no projeto de conversão da Refinaria da Galp de Matosinhos foi responsável por um novo record
atingido pela empresa ao nível da Segurança:
três milhões de horas-homens trabalhadas sem
acidentes, tendo este sido um contributo decisivo
para a atribuição de um prémio Fluor ao trabalho
desenvolvido na obra. A Casais contribuiu com
63.681 horas trabalhadas sem incidentes merecendo assim este reconhecimento.
As novas instalações inauguradas no dia 28 de setembro beneficiaram de um processo de conversão,
durante o qual a Casais executou trabalhos na Zona
2 ou área vermelha de segurança máxima, uma vez
que os trabalhos decorreram na unidade dos combustíveis, numa zona onde o grau de risco é muito
elevado. Os procedimentos adotados foram rígidos,
dada a especificidade da própria obra e exigiram
a adoção de soluções construtivas adequadas ao
cenário das tarefas a executar, nomeadamente o
facto da intervenção se realizar no meio da unidade
com a fábrica a funcionar a 100%. De referir, o
investimento considerável na proteção coletiva e
em novas metodologias, como por exemplo, a implementação de uma contenção periférica e o uso
de guarda corpos “made by” Casais.
Numa análise geral, das intervenções realizadas registam-se alguns números:

he participation of Casais in the project of
conversion of the Galp Refinery of Matosinhos
was responsible for the new record reached
by the company in terms of Safety: three million
men-hours worked without accidents, having this
been a decisive contribution for the attribution of
a Fluor prize to the work developed in the work
site. Casais contributed with 63.681 hours worked
without incidents thus deserving this recognition.
The new facilities inaugurated on 28th of September had undergone a process of conversion, during
which Casais carried out works in Zone 2 or red
area of maximum security, since the works took
place in the unit of fuels, in an area in which the risk
degree is very high. The procedures adopted were
very strict, given the specificity of the work
itself and called for the adoption of constructive
solutions adjusted to the scene of the tasks to be
executed, namely the fact of the intervention being
carried out in the middle of the unit with the plant
labouring at 100%. To be noted, the considerable
investment made in the collective protection and in
new methodologies, as for example, the implementation of a peripheral containment and the use of
guardrails "made by" Casais.

Universitárias de Aveiro
Inauguration University Residences of Aveiro
O
Complexo Residencial do Crasto – residências
poente, situado na Universidade de Aveiro
(UA), foi inaugurado no dia 12 de outubro,
com a presença do secretário de Estado do Ensino
Superior, João Filipe Queiró.
A empreitada realizada pela Casais Engenharia e
Construção é constituída por 14 blocos, com 17
quartos cada um, uma cozinha e uma sala comuns
e uma lavandaria. No total, ficam agora disponíveis
238 quartos que vêm dar resposta às necessidades de alojamento da comunidade escolar da UA.
Para além da edificação do equipamento, a Casais
executou também os arranjos exteriores entre os
quais se destacam as áreas verdes e a iluminação
pública composta por luminárias led com redução
de consumos na ordem dos 70%.

he Residential Complex of Crasto – west
residences, situated in the University of Aveiro
(UA), was inaugurated on the 12th of October,
with the presence of the secretary of State of Higher
Education, João Filipe Queiró.
The contract carried out by Casais Engenharia
e Construção is composed of 14 blocks, with 17
rooms each, a common kitchen and living-room
and a laundry room. In total, 238 rooms are now
available that come to satisfy the lodging needs of
the UA school community. Besides the construction of the equipment, Casais also carried out the
exterior arrangements among which we highlight
the green areas and the public illumination composed of led lights with reduction of consumptions
in the order of 70%.

novo projeto que a CNT iniciou recentemente na cidade do Porto, consiste na
edificação do novo Centro Materno-Infantil
do Norte (CMIN). Além da execução da totalidade
da estrutura de betão armado a CNT será também
responsável pela execução de outros trabalhos
como as demolições de estacas e a execução de
pavimentos térreos, num valor total de aproximadamente 1 milhão de euros.
O valor global do CMIN ultrapassa os 42 M€ e a inauguração está prevista para Setembro de 2013.

Besides the execution of the whole reinforced concrete structure, CNT will also be responsible for the
execution of other works such as the demolitions
of props and the execution of bottom floors, in a
total value of approximately one million Euros.
The global value of the CMIN is over 42 M€ and its
inauguration is foreseen for September of 2013.

ez meses após as entrada em Moçambique, a Casais Engenharia e Construção
concluiu a primeira obra: o edifício Sede do
Banco Único, localizado em Maputo, foi inaugurado no dia 14 de Setembro pelo primeiro-ministro
moçambicano, Aires Ali.

inaugurated on the 14th of September by the
Mozambique prime-minister, Aires Ali.
A obra com valor superior a cinco milhões de
dólares, tem assinatura do arquiteto Frederico
Valsassina, foi a responsável pela entrada da
Casais neste novo mercado. O edifício apresentase com seis pisos, em plena Av. Julius Nyerere, e o
principal desafio desta empreitada foi o reforço da
estrutura existente e a constante necessidade de
adaptação do projeto inerente à evolução da obra,
nomeadamente em termos da estrutura existente.
Por outro lado, o apertado prazo de execução e
o facto desta ser a primeira obra da Casais em
Moçambique colocaram à prova todo o know how
e experiência das equipas, mas foram desafios
superados com sucesso.
The contract with a value over five million dollars,
designed by architect Frederico Valsassina, was
responsible for the entrance of Casais in this
new market. The building has six floors, on Av.
Julius Nyerere, and the main challenge of this
contract was the reinforcement of the existing
structure and the constant necessity to adapt
the inherent project to the evolution of the work,
namely in terms of the existing structure. On the
other hand, the short time for completion and
the fact of this being the first contract for Casais
in Mozambique put all the teams’ know how and
experience to the test, but they were challenges
successfully overcome.

O crescimento em Moçambique segue a bom ritmo com novas agências do Moza Banco, a primeira já terminada no Alto Maé em Maputo,
uma em curso na Av. Angola, também na capital, e outra na Beira.
The growth in Mozambique continues at good pace with three new branches of the Moza Bank, the first already completed in Alto Maé in Maputo and
one in course at Av. Angola, also in the capital, and another one in Beira.
O sucesso das empreitadas e a confiança na equipa Casais são reconhecidos com entrega de mais cinco agências que vão arrancar no
início de 2012: três em Maputo, uma em Nacala e outra no Chimoio.
The success of the contracts and the confidence in the Casais team is
recognized with the awarding of five more branches that will initiate in the
beginning of 2012: three in Maputo, one in Nacala and another in Chimoio.
Simultaneamente, em curso estão também a empreitada de reabilitação da estrada nº 1, entre Namialo e o Rio Lúrio, na província de
Nampula, e duas pontes pedonais em Maputo.
Simultaneously, the construction contract for the rehabilitation of road
no. 1, between Namialo and the River Lúrio, in the province of Nampula
and two pedestrian overpasses in Maputo are also in course.
De referir que em termos de estrutura física, a Casais Moçambique
possui uma sede em Maputo e dois estaleiros, um na Matola e
outro em Nampula. Relativamente aos recursos humanos, a equipa
é atualmente composta por 15 colaboradores expatriados e cerca
de 150 locais.

possess a head office in Maputo and two construction yards, one in
Matola and another one in Nampula. In terms of human resources, the
staff is currently composed by 15 expatriated collaborators and about
150 local collaborators.

do Four Seasons Resort Marrakech, este

A participação na construção da Linha de Alta
Velocidade entre Tânger e Casablanca concretizou-se no dia 29 de setembro, numa cerimónia
oficial de início dos trabalhos na gare ferroviária de
Tanger-Ville, presidida pelo Rei Mohamed VI e por
Nicolas Sarkozy. Esta obra, em consórcio, tem um
prazo de execução previsto de 400 dias e um valor
global de cerca de 23 milhões de euros.
The participation in the construction of the High
Speed Rail Line between Tangier and Casablanca was awarded on the 29th of September,
in an official opening ceremony of the works in
the railroad station of Tangier-Ville, presided by
King Mohamed VI and by Nicolas Sarkozy. This
contract, in joint-venture, has an estimated time
for completion of 400 days and a global value of
about 23 million Euros.
Neste momento, a Casais Maroc tem ainda em
curso os trabalhos de captação de água da barragem Hassan I, em Azilal, uma Estação de Tratamento de Água, em Beni Mellal, e a Embaixada do
Canadá em Marrocos, situada em Rabat.

the works of water catchment of the Hassan I
dam, in Azilal, a Water Treatment Plant, in Beni
Mellal, and the Embassy of Canada in Morocco,

– a nova empresa direcionada para o mercado francês.
Carpincasais and Socimorcasal were present at Batimat 2011 that took
place in Paris between 7 and 12 of November. This international presence
reinforces the venture in new markets and presents RMCasais – the new
company directed towards the French market.

CNT BÉLGICA EXEMPLO DE BOAS
PRÁTICAS DE PREVENÇÃO E SEGURANÇA
Com atividade na Bélgica desde 2001, a CNT apresenta já um vasto e diversificado
portfólio. A parceria com a Bam Bélgica surge em 2007 com a obra do Museum
aan de Stroom (Antuérpia) e desde então tem crescido com projetos como Nort
Light e Pole Star (Bruxelas), OCMW Sint Niklaas, Centro Administrativo Willebroek,
Albertkannal e Vander Elst em Leuven.
Considerando todas as empreitadas realizadas
pela a CNT para a Bam Bélgica desde 2007, a empresa foi convidada a apresentar as Boas Práticas
implementadas num seminário que reuniu todos
os parceiros da Bam Bélgica para transmitir os
objetivos em relação à Prevenção e Segurança
bem como as Boas Práticas a aplicar em todos os
projetos. A iniciativa decorreu no dia 19 de outubro 2011 no Centro de Congressos de Leuven.
A Segurança dos Estaleiros de obra da CNT Bélgica é um processo de melhoria contínua e as Boas
Práticas em destaque assentam essencialmente
numa comunicação ascendente e descendente
que promove a sensibilização, o envolvimento, a
verificação e o reconhecimento pelo sucesso e
pelas metas atingidas.
A apresentação de Benedito Lemos, Diretor da
CNT Bélgica, destacou as várias fases do processo que é aplicado no dia a dia nas obras.
A elaboração de relatórios mensais na obra e
análise conjunta dos relatórios efetuados pelo
dono de obra, refletindo sobre os pontos a melhorar e analisando entre parceiros as questões
levantadas, demonstra uma atitude de interacção
entre a CNT e o cliente.
Paralelamente, a comunicação à frente de obra e
consequente verificação do cumprimentos das
medidas e melhorias a implementar, espelha a
preocupação com a melhoria contínua, com as boas
práticas e com a redução de acidentes em obra.
Para Benedito Lemos, “o ponto mais importante é
efetivamente a comunicação, a transmissão das
indicações à frente de obra, entre quem executa
no dia a dia e quem verifica e acompanha”. Esta
componente de comunicação é reforçada com
“ações de formação promovidas internamente e
com fornecedores e parceiros externos e com a
aplicação de cartazes de sensibilização devida-
mente traduzidos para português e afixados nos
locais sociais dos estaleiros e em sítios estratégicos das obras para que a barreira linguística seja
mais facilmente ultrapassada na compreensão
das mensagens”, acrescenta o Diretor.
Não menos importante é a conversação no dia
a dia que nunca é descurada. É importante que
quem verifica e coordena esteja disponível e
em comunicação constante com as equipas que
executam os trabalhos.
A última fase do processo é a verificação dos
resultados, das metas atingidas, da boa execução
dos procedimentos, enfim, do sucesso da
comunicação. Assim, o ciclo volta ao início com
a elaboração de um novo relatório que será novamente alvo de análise e discussão conjunta.
UMA APOSTA SEGURA
A CNT Bélgica tem efetuado um forte investimento
ao nível da Prevenção e Segurança das equipas e
das obras, nomeadamente através da formação
VCA para vários Colaboradores, bem como, a recente conclusão da formação de Joana Antunes como
Conselheira em Prevenção e Protecção no Trabalho
(nível II, reconhecido pela legislação belga).

Bam Belgium appeared in 2007 with the contract for the Museum aan de Stroom (Antwerp) and since then
has grown with projects such as Nort Light and Pole Star (Brussels), OCMW Sint Nikklas, Administrative Center
Willebroek, Albertkannal and Vander Elst in Leuven.

Taking into account all the contracts carried out by
CNT for Bam Belgium since 2007, the company
was invited to present the Good Practices implemented in a seminar that congregated all the partners of Bam Belgium to transmit the objectives
in relation to Prevention and Safety as well as the
Good Practices to be enforced in all the projects.
The event took place on the 19th of October 2011 in
the Centre of Congresses of Leuven.
The Safety of the construction sites of CNT
Belgium is a process of continuous improvement
and Good Practices in prominence are essentially

the process that is applied daily in the worksites.
The elaboration of monthly reports in the worksite
and the joint analysis of the reports performed
by the Client, reflecting on the points to improve
and analyzing the questions raised amongst the
partners, demonstrate an attitude of interaction
between CNT and the client.
In parallel, the communication to the work front
and consequent verification of the compliance
with the measures and improvements to be implemented shows the concern with the continuous
improvement, with the good practices and the
reduction of accidents at work.
For Benedito Lemos, "the most important aspect
is effectively the communication, the transmission of the indications to the work front, between
who executes on a daily basis and who verifies
and monitors". This component of communication is reinforced with "training courses carried out
internally and with external suppliers and partners
and with the application of awareness posters duly
translated into Portuguese and posted up at the social places of the construction yards and at strategic

Atualmente, decorre a construção, em parceria com uma empresa local, de um edifício na
Universidade do Rio Grande do Norte, e de uma
empreitada de infraestruturas numa Prefeitura do
Estado do Ceará. Para 2012, a Casais Brasil prevê o
arranque de duas obras de edificação: a reabilitação de uma unidade hoteleira e a execução de um
condomínio de lotes em Salvador.
Currently, construction of a building in the University of the Rio Grande do Norte is under way, in partnership with a local company, and of a construction
contract for infrastructures in a Municipality of the
State of Ceará. For 2012, Casais Brazil foresees
the start-up of two construction contracts: the
rehabilitation of a hotel and the construction of a
condominium lots in Salvador.
Já no segmento imobiliário, decorre desde junho
de 2011 um projeto de 192 fogos, no âmbito do
programa “Minha Casa Minha Vida”, adotando a
marca Parati Quality. Simultaneamente, encontrase em fase de conclusão um projeto de 60 fogos
direcionados para o mercado de classe média/alta,
no Estado da Bahia, em Itabuna.

elo terceiro ano consecutivo, o Ria Shopping
foi palco da iniciativa europeia Noite dos Investigadores. Durante o dia 23 de setembro,
o shopping de Olhão abriu portas com espaços
dedicados ao teatro, à música e ao convívio. Este
ano, dos 7500 visitantes que participaram, cerca de
900 foram alunos do ensino básico ao secundário,
distribuídos por quase 40 turmas oriundos de
Tavira, Olhão, Faro, Portimão e Lagos.

or the third consecutive year, Ria Shopping was
host to the European event Researchers’ Night.
Throughout the day of 23rd September, the
shopping centre of Olhão opened its doors with dedicated spaces to the theatre, music and companionship. This year, of the 7500 visitors who participated,

education, distributed over about 40 classes coming

Ria Shopping encheu-se de jovens no fim
de semana de 5 e 6 de novembro para
celebrar o quarto aniversário da MOJU
(Associação Movimento Juvenil em Olhão), numa
iniciativa conjunta.
A MOJU é uma associação que pretende estimular a participação ativa dos jovens na sociedade
através do desenvolvimento de atividades culturais, educativas, sociais, desportivas, recreativas
e ambientais e da colaboração com entidades
públicas e privadas, promovendo o intercâmbio e a
cooperação com outras associações.
O piso 1 do Ria acolheu uma feira de artesanato
urbano com a reciclagem de materiais como tema
principal, bem como, uma exposição do concurso
de fotografia Tons de Verde. Teatro, música e dança
preencheram também o programa nos dois dias no
piso 2. No sábado decorreram as apresentações
de vários grupos de dança (Academia de Dança do
Algarve, Urban XPressions, D.Move, etc.), Rap, Hip-
Hop e banda de música de Baile pela noite, contribuindo para o significativo aumento da afluência
ao Centro Comercial. No Domingo, o programa
contou com a apresentação da curta-metragem
Rap’pública realizada no âmbito das celebrações
do centenário da República, Peça Turma X da
Oficina de Teatro II da Casa da Juventude de Olhão,
e para finalizar, decorreu a entrega de prémios do
Concurso de fotografia Tons de Verde.

weekend of 5 and 6 of November to celebrate
the fourth anniversary of MOJU (Association
Youth Movement in Olhão), in a joint initiative.
MOJU is an association that intends to stimulate
the active participation of the youngsters in society through the carrying out of the cultural, educational, social, sports, recreational and environmental activities, and of collaboration with public
and private entities, promoting the interchanging
and cooperation with other associations.
Floor 1 of Ria hosted an urban handicraft fair with
the recycling of materials as main subject, as well as
an exhibit of the photography competition Tons de
Verde (Shades of Green). Theatre, music and dance
also completed the program on both days on floor
2. On Saturday, the presentation of several dance
groups took place (Dance Academy of the Algarve,
Urban XPressions, D.Move, etc.), Rap, Hip-Hop and
a band of Ball music at night, contributed to the
significant increase of influx at the Shopping Centre.
On Sunday, the program counted on the presentation of the short films Rap'pública produced under
the scope of the celebrations of the 100th Anniversary of the Republic, Peça Turma X of the Theatre
Workshop II of the Casa da Juventude of Olhão, and
to finish off, the prize ceremony for the Photography Competition Tons de Verde.

Recivalongo with new image innovates in waste management
N
o primeiro trimestre do próximo ano entrará
em funcionamento esta unidade pioneira
no país com uma infraestrutura única na
Região Norte, com capacidade para rececionar
todo o tipo de resíduos sólidos não perigosos, na
qual é assegurada a opção primária pela sua valorização, reduzindo significativamente o encaminhamento para a eliminação e deposição em aterro.
Trata-se do CITAV – Centro Integrado de Triagem,
Tratamento e Valorização do Douro Norte, uma
unidade que integra a Retria e a Recivalongo.
A unidade de produção de Combustíveis Sólidos
Recuperados (CSR) tem por objetivo reaproveitar
os resíduos valorizáveis que dão entrada na
Recivalongo, bem como o refugo da triagem
dos Resíduos de Construção e Demolição (RCD)
gerados na Retria, de forma a produzir um material
combustível a partir de resíduos não perigosos.
Este material é posteriormente utilizado em
unidades de incineração ou de coincineração, permitindo aumentar consideravelmente a percentagem de resíduos encaminhados para valorização.
A Recivalongo possui uma valência adicional
relacionada com a unidade de confinamento, que
permite o destino final adequado para resíduos
que não sejam passíveis de valorização (resíduos
últimos), como cinzas e escórias.
A produção de CSR é considerada um processo
inovador a nível nacional e internacional. A unidade da Recivalongo é a única a nível nacional na
produção deste combustível derivado de resíduos
que cumpre a especificação técnica CEN/TS
15359:2006. O produto final (CSR) caracteriza-se
pela sua elevada qualidade, homogeneidade e pela
sua especificidade de utilização.
A internacionalização é outro dos assuntos em
análise. A Recivalongo está dimensionada para
processar diariamente cerca de 280 toneladas
de resíduos, num total de 80 000 ton/ano,
estimando que:
• 25% se destine à reciclagem tradicional;
• 75% se destine à produção de CDR e CSR para
valorização energética, dos quais 30% se pretende exportar para o mercado espanhol.
A imagem da Recivalongo foi totalmente renovada
recentemente e site www.recivalongo.pt está
online desde 26 setembro, onde é possível aceder
a todas estas informações.

ITAV - Integrated Centre of Selection,
Treatment and Valuation of North Douro is
a unit integrated in Retria and Recivalongo.
This is a pioneer unit in the country with the only
infrastructure of its kind in the North Region, which
will begin operating during the first trimester next
year, with the capacity to receive any type of non
hazardous solid waste, in which its valuation is the
primary option assured, significantly reducing its
forwarding for elimination and deposition in land fill.
The unit of production of Solid Recovered Fuel
(SRF) has the purpose of reusing the recyclable
waste that Recivalongo receives, as well as the
dross from the selection of the Construction and
Demolition Waste (C&DW) generated in Retria,
in order to produce a combustible material from
non hazardous waste. This material is later used in
incineration or co-incineration units, allowing the
considerable increase in the percentage of waste
forwarded for valuation. Recivalongo has an added
value related with the confinement unit, which
enables the adequate final destination for wastes
that are possible to valuate (last wastes), such as
bottom ash and slag.

Em setembro, a Recivalongo esteve presente na
Exporecicla, em Saragoça, com o propósito de
concretizar o objetivo de exportação do negócio
no mercado espanhol. Já no mês de Outubro,
marcou presença em Cabo Verde no âmbito da
FICH 2011, entre os dias 7 a 9 de outubro. Entre 18
e 20 de outubro a empresa marcou presença na
Expobioenergia, em Valladolid..
In September, Recivalongo was present at
Exporecicla, in Saragoça, with the intention to
materialize the objective of exportation of the
business in the Spanish market. In October, it
was present in Cape Verde for FICH 2011, between
the 7th and 9th of October. Between the 18th
and 20th of October the company marked its
presence in the Expobioenergia, in Valladolid.
The production of SRF is considered an innovative process both at the national and international
levels. The unit at Recivalongo is the only national
one in the production of this waste-derived fuel
that complies with the technical specification
CEN/TS 15359:2006. The end product (SRF) is
characterized by its high quality, homogeneity and
by its specificity of use.
Internationalization is another matter in analysis.
Recivalongo is scaled to process about 280 tons
of waste daily, in a total of 80 000 ton/year,
estimating that:
• 25% is dedicated to traditional recycling;
• 75% is dedicated to the production of WDF and
SRF for energetic valuation, 30% of which is
intended to be exported to the Spanish market.

de gestão de RCD’s para AMTSM
Retria Vouga advances with unit for management of C&DW for AMTSM
A
cerimónia de lançamento da primeira pedra
da nova unidade para tratamento e valorização de Resíduos de Construção e Demolição (RCD) que abrangerá os cinco Municípios
que integram a Associação de Municípios de Terras
de Santa Maria (AMTSM), decorreu no dia 19 de
outubro, com a presença do secretário de Estado
do Ambiente e Ordenamento do Território, Pedro
Afonso de Paulo.
Após a assinatura do contrato, o consórcio Retria
Vouga, constituído pelas empresas Casais, Semural, Retria e Factor Ultimate, ficará responsável pela
criação e exploração da unidade por um período
de 50 anos. A instalação que servirá os Municípios
de Arouca, Oliveira de Azeméis, Santa Maria da
Feira, S. João da Madeira e Vale de Cambra está
projetada para tratar 100.000 toneladas/ano e
poderá integrar outros fluxos ou municípios externos à AMTSM, se necessário.
A construção da nova unidade arrancará dois
meses após a constituição da empresa e entrará
em funcionamento cinco meses após a mesma
data. O contrato assinado tem como objetivo gerir
um sistema integrado, tecnicamente avançado,
ambientalmente correto e economicamente sustentável, para triagem e processamento dos RCD.
Integra ainda as atividades de recolha, triagem e
processamento de RCD, gerando um produto final
– agregado reciclado – que entrará de novo no
ciclo da construção civil.
A instalação desta unidade nesta região ganha
ainda mais importância face ao modelo em que foi
atribuída a concessão, respondendo às necessidades das populações abrangidas, minimizando
os impactos da atividade das obras da construção
civil nas cidades, criando um serviço integrado entre os municípios, juntas de freguesia e a empresa.
Num formato inovador de concessão, as três
principais linhas orientadoras estipulam que o
concessionário garanta:
1. Um serviço porta a porta que permita encaminhar pequenas quantidades de RCD provenientes
das obras sem licença ou comunicação prévia;
2. A instalação, em cooperação com os municípios,
de um sistema de monitorização da produção de
RCD na região;
3. Que os municípios da região tenham disponível
acesso ao agregado reciclado para uso nas suas
obras, no decorrer da concessão.
Por exemplo, para o controlo do fluxo, será implementada a Plataforma de Gestão da Informação
GERCODE permitindo aos municípios acompanhar
on-line a produção de resíduos na sua região, assim como responder, de uma forma única no país,
ao estipulado no Decreto-Lei 46/2008 (Regime
Jurídico de RCD).
Comparativamente a outras unidades similares,
a Retria Vouga destaca-se pela abrangência que
vai desde a monitorização, recolha e processamento até ao fabrico de um agregado certificado
e entrega gratuita aos municípios de agregado,
cumprindo as especificações LNEC e marcação CE
para incorporação em obra.
Já ao nível dos requisitos ambientais, evidenciase a preocupação na construção da unidade que
recorrerá a materiais reciclados. Todas as bases
e sub bases serão efetuadas com agregados
reciclados, assim como todos os elementos
pré-moldados (como guias de passeio, caixas,
elementos em betão a aplicar) incluirão britas
recicladas. Ao nível dos pisos das unidades de
triagem e área de receção será utilizado MDF proveniente de madeiras recicladas. Para redução de
eventuais impactos na qualidade do ar, a unidade
estará provida de uma rede de água por aspersão
que permite controlar a dispersão de poeiras. A
água para rega e controlo de poeiras virá de um
depósito de grandes dimensões enterrado que
será colocado na zona poente da unidade e que
captará as águas pluviais. Será também colocada
uma barreira arbórea que controlará a dispersão
de poeiras na unidade, funcionando também
como barreira acústica. A iluminação exterior da
unidade será alimentada por um painel fotovoltaico que permitirá uma redução dos consumos
de energia. Ao nível dos transportes de resíduos,
a frota está equipada com filtros de partículas
para o consumo de biodiesel.

he ceremony for laying the first stone of new
unit for treatment and valuation of Construction and Demolition Wastes (C&DW) that will
serve the five Municipalities that integrate the Association of Municipalities of Santa Maria (AMTSM)
took place on 19th October, with the presence of the
secretary of State of the Environment and Ordering
of the Territory, Pedro Afonso de Paulo.
The installation of this unit in this region gains
even more importance still in light of the model
in which the concession was attributed, answering to the necessities of the populations served,
minimizing the impacts of the activity of the civil
construction works in the cities, creating a service
integrated between the municipalities, parish
councils and the company.
After the signing of the contract, the consortium Retria Vouga, consisting of the companies
Casais, Semural, Retria and Factor Ultimate, will be
responsible for the creation and management of
the unit for a period of 50 years. The facility that
will serve the Cities of Arouca, Oliveira de Azeméis,
Santa Maria da Feira, S. João da Madeira and Vale
de Cambra is designed to treat 100.000 tons/year
and may integrate other flows or cities outside the
AMTSM, if necessary.
In an innovative format of concession, the three
main orienting lines stipulate that the concessionaire
guarantees:
The construction of the new unit will begin two
months after the establishment of the company
and will start operating five months after that
date. The contract signed has as its purpose
the management of an integrated, technically
advanced, environmentally correct and economically sustainable system for selection and
processing of the C&DW. It also integrates the
activities of collection, selection and processing
of C&DW, generating an end product – recycled
aggregate – which will enter the cycle of the civil
construction once again.
1. A door-to-door service that facilitates the
forwarding of small amounts of C&DW proceeding
from the construction works without license or
previous communication;
2. The installation, in cooperation with the municipalities, of a system for monitoring the production
of C&DW in the region;
3. That the municipalities of the region have available access to the recycled aggregate for use in
its construction works, throughout the duration of
the concession.
For example, for controlling the flow, the GERCODE
Information Management Platform will be implemented allowing the cities to monitor the production
of wastes in its region on-line, as well as complying, in
an exclusive form in the country, with that stipulated
in Decree 46/2008 (Legal Regimen of C&DW).
In comparison to other similar units, Retria Vouga
is distinguished for its scope that goes from the
monitoring, collection and processing to the production of a certified aggregate and free delivery
to the aggregate cities, complying with the LNEC
specifications and CE marking for incorporation in
construction works.
In terms of the environmental requirements, the
concern with the construction of the unit stands
out, as it will resort to recycled materials. All the
bases and sub bases will be performed with
recycled aggregates, as well as all the pre-cast elements (sidewalk blocks, boxes, concrete elements
to be applied) will include recycled grits. In terms of
the floors of the units for selection and reception
area, MDF proceeding from recycled wood will be
used. To reduce the eventual impacts in the quality
of the air, the unit will be equipped with a sprinkling
water network that enables the control of dust
dispersion. The water for watering and dust control
will come from a large buried deposit that will be
placed in the west zone of the unit and which will
catch rain waters. An arboreal barrier will also be
placed that will control the dispersion of dusts in the
unit, also functioning as an acoustics barrier. The
exterior illumination of the unit will be powered by a
solar panel that will enable the reduction of energy
consumptions. In terms of the transportation of the
wastes, the fleet is equipped with particle filters for
the consumption of biodiesel.

os últimos anos tem-se assistido ao surgimento de novos e aperfeiçoados constituintes para materiais de matriz cimentícia que
permitem dotá-los com apreciáveis propriedades
reológicas, mecânicas e de durabilidade. Por outro
lado, têm sido efetuados avanços assinaláveis no
desenvolvimento de modelos numéricos capazes de
simular com rigor assinalável o comportamento de
estruturas formadas por estes materiais. Tendo por
base as competências existentes no grupo de investigação da UM nestas duas valências, pretendese desenvolver um produto inovador de matriz
cimentícia reforçado com fibras, com propriedades
reológicas, mecânicas e de durabilidade capaz de
ser utilizado na construção de lajes fungiformes de
edifícios, com supressão completa da armadura convencional nessas lajes. A reologia deste ultra-betão
será concebida para não ser necessária qualquer
tarefa de vibração, o que associado à supressão das
tarefas de preparação e montagem das armaduras
convencionais garantem uma significativa redução
de tempo de execução deste tipo de edifícios, e dos
custos diretos e indiretos, pois a não presença de armaduras convencionais de aço elimina encargos de
manutenção derivados da ocorrência de fenómenos
de corrosão. Este ultra-betão, que integra de forma
otimizada mais do que um tipo de fibras (UHPFRC),
apresentará elevada resistência, ductilidade e
durabilidade, sendo o seu comportamento modelado
por software que integrará modelos de simulação do
comportamento instantâneo e diferido de estruturas
constituídas por UHPFRC. Os modelos ainda não
existentes no software FEMIX serão implementados
pelo grupo de investigação da UM. A possibilidade
de construir mais rapidamente, com menores custos
e com base em projetos suportados em ferramentas de dimensionamento e análise de rigor elevado
permitirá à Casais ganhar novos mercados internacionais onde a escassez de edifícios de habitação
e comércio é manifesta, como é o caso dos PALOP,
Índia e vários Países da América latina.
n the past years we have witnessed the appearance of new and perfected constituents for
cement-based materials which allow us to endow
them with appreciable rheological, mechanical and
durability properties. On the other hand, significant
advances have been made in the development
of numerical models capable of simulating with
remarkable precision the behaviour of structures
composed of these materials. Having the proficiency
existing in the group of investigation at UM in these
two areas as a basis, we aim to develop an innovative
cement-based product reinforced with fibres, with
rheological, mechanical and durability properties able
to be used in the construction of mushroom slabs in
buildings, with complete suppression of the conventional reinforcement in those slabs. The rheology of
the ultra-concrete will be conceived in order for no
vibration task to be necessary, which in association to the suppression of the tasks associated to
the preparation and assembly of the conventional
reinforcement ensures a significant reduction in
the time of execution of this type of buildings, as
well as the direct and indirect costs, as the absence
of conventional steel reinforcement eliminates
maintenance costs arising from the occurrence of
corrosion phenomena. This ultra-concrete, which
integrates more than one type of fibres (UHPFRC)
in an optimized form, will present high resistance,
ductility and durability, being its behaviour shaped by
software that will integrate models of simulation of
the instant and deferred behaviour of the structures
constituted by UHPFRC. The models not yet present
in the FEMIX software will be implemented by the
UM group of investigation. The possibility of building
faster, with less costs and based on projects supported by high precision dimensioning and analysis
tools will allow Casais to gain new international
markets in which there is a large lack of buildings for
habitation and commerce, such as the case of the
PALOP (Portuguese-speaking African Countries),
India, and several Latin American countries.

OBJETIVOS:
No presente projeto pretende-se desenvolver um betão de ultra elevado desempenho material e estrutural,
que será designado por UHPFRC, para a construção de
lajes fungiformes de edifícios habitacionais e comerciais capaz de eliminar toda a armadura convencional
(apenas será colocada armadura no alinhamento dos
pilares que evite a ocorrência de colapso progressivo
para ações extremas tipo sismo e tornados de elevada
intensidade). Este UHPFRC será composto por mais do
um tipo de fibras, de forma a tirar partido das distintas
fases de mobilização dos mecanismos de reforço de diferentes fibras disponíveis no mercado. O UHPFRC terá
propriedades reológicas que garantam a sua aplicação
sem recorrer a meios de compactação mecânica, e
sem ocorrer segregação dos seus constituintes. Os
níveis de resistência mecânica pré e pós fissuração do
UHPFRC serão os necessários para evitar rotura por
corte/punçoamento e flexão. A seleção dos tipos de
fibras terá também o propósito de minimizar a ocorrência de risco de fendas durante o processo de cura deste
material, e de manter níveis elevados de resistência
quando a laje de UHPFRC é submetida a temperaturas
elevadas, típicas das que ocorrem num fogo. Dado não
haver praticamente armadura convencional, e tendo
em conta que a elevada compacidade do UHPFRC não
ocorrerão danos derivados de fenómenos de corrosão
de armaduras convencionais, pelo que os custos de
manutenção diminuirão significativamente e o ciclo
de vida aumentará apreciavelmente com a utilização
deste material neste tipo de aplicações. Como será
praticamente eliminada a tarefa de montagem de
armaduras para as lajes fungiformes, pois a armadura
de anti-colapso progressivo não requer preparação
prévia de montagem, serão diminuídos drasticamente
os riscos de acidentes que ocorrem frequentemente
com a montagem de armaduras, pois na topologia
deste tipo de edifícios, a preparação de armaduras
para as lajes fungiformes é preponderante no contexto
desta atividade.
Para ser possível estender a utilização de betão reforçado com fibras (BRF) a aplicações da significância estrutural da presente proposta, com níveis de fiabilidade
e segurança requeridos, serão implementadas novas
funcionalidades no programa de cálculo automático de
análise não linear material, FEMIX, de forma a permitir
que este simule com elevado nível de rigor o comportamento do material desde a sua fase fluída à endurecida, bem como o comportamento das estruturas a
construir desde as primeiras idades do UHPFRC até ao
final do ciclo de vida deste tipo de estruturas. A atual
versão deste software, que desde 1990 vem sendo
desenvolvido com a colaboração de membros do grupo de investigação da UM, baseia-se no método dos
elementos finitos (MEF) e integra modelos avançados
de simulação do comportamento termo-higrométrico
de materiais de matriz cimentícia, de fluência e retração
e de iniciação e propagação de fendas. A atual versão
permite a simulação estática e dinâmica de estruturas,
bem como a interação solo-estrutura com simulação
do processo construtivo. No entanto, será necessário
implementar novas funcionalidades neste software
para o dotar dos requisitos pretendidos que assegurem
os níveis de otimização dos custos dos materiais e
estruturas e segurança no processo de dimensionamento, sendo de destacar, o acoplamento dos modelos
termo-higrométicos e mecânicos, o refinamento dos
modelos de retração e fluência, a possibilidade de
simular a heterogeneidade do comportamento do
material após o início da micro-fendilhação pelo facto
das fibras se distribuírem de forma aleatória, o que
exige a atribuição de leis constitutivas apropriadas
que atendam à distribuição das fibras, determinada
por investigação experimental e considerando todo o
processo de aplicação do UHPFRC desde a sua fase
fluída à sua fase endurecida.
OBJECTIVES:
be implemented in the automatic calculation program
of material non linear analysis, FEMIX, in order to
enable it to simulate, with high level of precision, the
material’s behaviour from its fluid to hardened phases,
as well as the behaviour of the structures to be built
from the first ages of the UHPFRC until the end of the
life cycle of this type of structures. The current version of this software, which has been being developed
since 1990 in collaboration with members of the UM
group of investigation, is based on the finite elements
method (FEM) and integrates advanced models of
simulation of the thermo-hygrometric behaviour of
concrete-based material, of flow and retraction and
of initiation and spreading of cracks. The current
version enables the static and dynamic simulation of
structures, as well as the ground-structure interaction
with simulation of the construction process. However,
it will be necessary to implement new functions in
this software in order to endow it with the intended
requirements that may ensure the levels of cost
optimization of the materials and structures and
safety in the dimensioning process, most notably, the
linkage of the thermo-hygrometric and mechanical models, the refining of the retraction and flow
models, the possibility to simulate the heterogeneity
of the material’s behaviour after the beginning of the
microcracking due to the fact of the fibres distributing
themselves randomly, which calls for the allocation
of appropriate constitutive laws that address the
distribution of the fibres, determined by experimental
investigation and taking into account the whole process of application of the UHPFRC from its fluid phase
to its hardened phase.
In this Project we intend to develop a concrete of ultra
high material and structural performance, which will
be named UHPFRC, for the construction of mushroom slabs in habitation and commerce buildings
capable of eliminating all conventional reinforcement
(reinforcement will only be placed in the alignment
of the pillars that will prevent the occurrence of
progressive collapse for extreme actions such as high
intensity earthquakes and tornados). This UHPFRC
will be made up of more than one type of fibres in
order to take advantage of the distinct phases of
mobilization of the reinforcement mechanisms of the
different fibres available in the market. The UHPFRC
will have rheological properties that will ensure its
application without resorting to means of mechanical
compaction, and without the occurrence of segregation of its constituents. The levels of pre and post
cracking mechanical resistance of the UHPFRC will be
those necessary to avoid rupture by cutting/puncture
and flexion. The selection of the types of fibres will
also have the purpose of minimizing the occurrence
of fissures during the curing process of this material,
and of maintaining high levels of resistance when
the UHPFRC slab is subjected to high temperatures,
typical of those that occur in a fire. Given that there is
practically no conventional reinforcement, and considering the high compactness of the UHPFRC, damage
from phenomena from conventional reinforcement
corrosion will not occur, by which the maintenance
costs will decrease significantly and the life cycle will
increase considerably with the usage of this material
in this type of applications. As the task of assembly of
reinforcement for the mushroom slabs will be practically eliminated, since the progressive anti-collapse
reinforcement does not require previous assembly
preparation, the risks of accidents that frequently
occur with the assembly of reinforcements will be
drastically reduced, because in the topology of this
type of buildings, the preparation of reinforcements
for the mushroom slabs is imposing in the context of
this activity.
In order for it to be possible to extend the use of fibrereinforced concrete (FRC) to applications of the structural significance of this proposal, with the required
levels of reliability and safety, new functionalities will

The high performance of the UHPFRC in terms of
rheological, material and durability properties, its
competitive cost in light of the fact of it being possible
to eliminate the application of conventional reinforcement, and it not being necessary to use any means
of mechanical vibration of the material, with a very
significant reduction of the period of construction,
as well as the possibility to anticipate the demolding
of the slabs, will allow Casais to enter international
markets with a quality and competitive product, conceived and designed with tools of advanced numerical analysis which ensures high levels of optimization
of the resources applied and the safety and reliability
required from the structure.

Construir Resultados foi desenhado para
promover o alinhamento da estratégia de
liderança com a gestão definida pela Administração do Grupo e para fomentar a interação
entre as equipas locais e internacionais.
Assim, após a implementação do projeto a nível
nacional junto da Administração, Direção Executiva, Diretores de Departamento, Diretores de Obra,
e Quadros Superiores o Construir Resultados
rumou a novas paragens e hasteou bandeiras nos
mercados internacionais do Grupo Casais com três
objetivos principais:
• Fomentar o sentido de pertença dos expatriados
ao Grupo Casais;
A primeira ação internacional decorreu em
Setembro em Marrocos com a presença de 10
expatriados da Argélia, Gibraltar e Marrocos. Em
Outubro seguiu-se a ação na Bélgica, contando
com a participação de 11 expatriados da Alemanha,
Holanda e Bélgica.
Em Dezembro o projeto viaja até Angola, para
a 3ª e última ação só com colaboradores da
Casais Angola, dada a dimensão de expatriados
existentes no país.
Juntaram-se mercados e culturas diferentes, e
todos os participantes consideraram a formação
como um excelente contributo para melhorar a
performance profissional. A boa disposição e
abertura para a formação foram constantes, permitindo uma grande partilha de experiências entre
todos os participantes.
O Construir Resultados confirma que as pessoas
estão sincronizadas com o projeto Casais Internacional, defendendo os interesses da empresa em
todas as situações do dia a dia.
Por seu lado, o parceiro Dynargie atesta o grande
espírito de união e de entreajuda entre todos,

he program Construir Resultados (Building
Results) was designed to promote the alignment of the strategy of leadership with the
management defined by the Administration of the
Group and to promote the interaction between the
local teams and the international ones.
Thus, after the implementation of the project at
the national level to the Administration, Executive Directors, Directors of Departments, Worksite
Managers, and Senior Staff, Construir Resultados
set sail to new destinations and anchored in the
international markets of the Casais Group with
three main objectives:
• To promote a sense of belonging to the Casais
Group in expatriates;
• To ensure that the corporate Values are experienced beyond-borders;
• Consolidate a unique Culture of Leadership,
to be experienced independently of the place
where it is carried out.
The first international training program took place
in September in Morocco with the presence of 10
expatriates from Algeria, Gibraltar and Morocco. In
October, the program in Belgium followed, counting with the participation of 11 expatriates from
Germany, Holland and Belgium.

A atribuição do Prémio Casais é um dos recursos
possíveis para manter e potenciar uma relação
saudável e de proximidade entre a universidade, os
seus alunos e a empresa. A experiência tem-nos
demonstrado que esta relação é vantajosa para
todas as partes e que o esforço e aplicação dos
alunos são compensados e reconhecidos.
The awarding of the Casais Prize is one of the possible resources to maintain and to enhance a healthy
relationship and of proximity between the university,
its pupils and the company. The experience has
demonstrated that this relation is advantageous for
all parts and that the effort and application of the
pupils are compensated and recognized.

a Universidade do Minho, iniciado em 2005,
foi entregue no dia 27 de outubro, mais
um Prémio Casais que distingue o melhor aluno
de Engenharia Civil, durante uma cerimónia que
decorreu no Campus de Azurém, em Guimarães.

dia 23 de novembro, na Universidade do
Minho, com o objetivo principal de aproximar os alunos das licenciaturas e dos mestrados
da Escola de Economia e Gestão (EEG) da vida das
empresas. Através da apresentação de histórias
que ilustram dinâmicas criativas do mundo das
empresas, alertando-os para as competências
que o mercado de trabalho exige.

masters students of the School of Economy and
Management (EEG) to the life of the companies. Through the presentation of histories that
illustrate creative dynamics of the world of the
companies, alerting them for the abilities that the

A Casais marcou presença através da participação do Administrador António Marques Araújo,
subordinada ao tema Internacionalização para os
mercados africanos. Considerando a experiência
de Internacionalização da Casais no mercado
Africano e a atividade da empresa em Angola,
Marrocos, Moçambique e Cabo Verde, bem como
os processos de prospeção em curso para eventuais entradas na Argélia, Líbia, Gana e África do
Sul, a apresentação focou a potencialidade dos
mercados e a cultura dos negócios, percorrendo
os campos económico, logístico, fiscal, legislativo,
aduaneiro e sócio-politico.
